Yeah, it was a pretty bizarre idea given the weirdness of the movie (and, to a less degree, the book). I would have thought it was a parody if I hadn't heard about it a long time ago.

There's apparently an effort going to bring an actual Dune 2 adaptation (not just Dune 2000) over to OpenRA: https://github.com/OpenRA/d2

As slow as the progress will likely be, I'm glad to see someone working on it.
