Official nintendo magazines were calling the N64 "Ultra", and Ultra even had an official logo (unlike PSX), see: >>10239863
You can also find a lot of internet posts from the late 90s and early 00s still calling it the "Ultra 64".
Still doesn't mean we should claim the N64's official abbreviation should be NU64.
The same applies to PSX, it was a pseudo-official way people had to call it, because "PS-X" was sort of like a codename, but the official abbreviation is, and always will be, just PS, not PSX nor PS1. People use PS1 out of convenience I guess and because PS might seem a bit generic. You can use PSX too if you want, but it's as relevant as calling the N64 the Ultra.
