The TG-16 actually was superior in the onscreen colors department, which is why many TG-16 to Genesis ports don't look as good. In the case of Mega Bomberman it was simply a rush job, though.

The penguins in the ice level randomly throw rockets over the screen which explode in Mega Bomberman.

That's about it. If you don't own a PC Engine or region-free TG-16, it definitely a respectable port, but some of the graphical downgrades are a little perplexing. It's true that the PC Engine can display more colors at the same time, but the lack of some animations is a little strange.

And here is the Genesis version (Mega)

Mega is overall a bit darker, but did lose a lot of the background animations in the porting process.
