Tribal collecthan isn't even that bad, especially since when you go back, you're equipped with the jetpack, so replaying old levels isn't the exact same as before.
For me, the real drag was finding the spaceship parts, but even then I still enjoyed the game.

And yeah, dat OST.

I'm usually not a big fan of orchestral-type music in my video games, but damn this one is great, and fits the tone of the game perfectly.

I find that the core of the game is actually the shooting aspect, most of the time you will be shooting at bugs.

The exploration/tribal rescuing factor is there from the beginning but it takes more prominence at the end. At first you can't even rescue all the tribals because some of them require you to get the jetpack, which you get once you get to Mizar's Palace with all 3 characters.
The first 10 or so hours of the game you will spend playing it just like a third person shooter with some mild exploraton and platforming segments, but still mostly a shooter.
The second half of the game increases the exploration part since you have to look for all the tribals and also the ship parts.
I understand how it can get tedious, what I did was, I stopped playing the game for a while once I got to the 2nd half of the game, then returned many months later and started playing all the levels again. Since I haven't played it in a while, I didn't remember many of them so it was fun, and also unlocked new levels.
I think the tribal collecting isn't really that bad of a thing, but what was bad is that it's mandatory in order to fight the final boss, same for the ship parts. They should have allowed you to go fight Mizar, and maybe add an extra ending if you get a 100% completion.
But all in all, I think the game has way more good than bad things.

It really depends on the developers though. The N64 can have some awful-looking textures, I remember Road Rash 64 being very ugly to look at (and play, but I know many people find the Road Rash games fun), but then there's games like Jet Force Gemini which makes pretty good use of textures.

However I think the N64 shined the most on the lighting effects. There's some lighting effects on JFG or Majora's Mask that impress me even today.

Well, the Saturn was there at least, although most 2D stuff never left Japan.

And yeah, screenshots almost never make justice to 5th gen games, but I certainly wouldn't have minded a metroid 64 if it looked like Jet Force Gemini.

Yeah, JFG was the first time I saw 3D jiggle physics too. probably Dead or Alive and JFG were some of the first ones to do it.

I just reuined all the geminis in the pyramid, and now I've finally started the hunt for the tribals and space ship parts.
I haven't played most of the game in a long time though, so I should be having fun replaying the levels. Going through Goldwood right now, apparently, I've only visited 2 locations here, looking for the other 2 (Lodge and Rim).

I also got armor upgrades, so now Vela and Juno have jetpacks (although I don't know how to activate them) and Lupus is a tank now, sweet.
