I'd say it's more an issue with the cart, but the only way to be sure is by trying with other games.

>>1585536
>spent the last half hour cleaning both cart and snes no luck still the same
What method did you use?
I remember a friend of mine had given me all her brother's old snes games, but they were filthy as fuck; I had to several times strongly rub a Q-tip on some of them to make them work. Even then they would often crash.
Also if it's a problem of dirtiness, it would be pretty easy to tell by looking at said Q-tip (mine was black)

Also Magic Sword, which originated in the arcades then got a SNES port.

The console industry was then dominated by japanese games. In Japan games are intended for kids/teens, and most stop playing vidya when they grow up. This is different in the West where kids that played on the nes never stopped, and then grew up to be adults who wanted more mature stuff; so now that the western developers dominate the industry they cater to that new audience.

On the other hand, the PC scene which was from the start intended for older audiences, has been dealing with mature themes for way longer.

>Of course, but there's little doubt that the Genesis CPU was substantially faster, even if it wasn't double.
Yeah the SNES CPU was slower (I think it was the same as the NES's), but there were coprocessors that would handle specific tasks: this explains why some early games had such slowdowns (super R-Type...), third parties weren't used yet to proficiently use the coprocessors

I concur.
This game totally flew past my radar when it came out, started playing it on emulator years later almost by accident, couldn't stop until I completed it.

I kinda bought it by "accident": I had settled on a saturn (had played VF2 at Eurodisney on a pretty big screen and was impressed as fuck), but it was too expensive so I got a PSX with Tekken instead. Then FFVII was announced so I was ecstatic of my "choice" (FFVI was-is my all-time favourite game). The two years that passed before its release were pretty boring tho, except for a resident evil or an Ace Combat 2... But when Square started releasing all those great games was when I really started enjoying that generation, culminating for me with the original MGS, Chrono Cross, and Star Ocean 2.

Yeah but people who play horror games LIKE to be spooked, so they're still having fun.
Same can be said with any genre really, you don't get the same sort of enjoyment from playing platformers or point & click or RPGs...

Exact same thing happened to me.
Didn't start it again right away, lent the game to my friends, warning them about that part, and got really jealous when they beat the game before me

Funny but I was really surprised to see Chrono Cross was so unpopular, back then all my friends and I absolutely loved it. Even a pal I met later has the same fond memories of it.

>Quake 2
I agree, and you forgot to mention it had competitive 4 player splitscreen multiplayer. Oh the many fun nights we had playing that game with my pals back then...

We later moved on to Quake 3 on DC, but I always felt 2 was better

>that city levels looks really good
That level was on a playstation magazine demo CD, played it countless times; it was fun as heck trying the riskiest stunts, and that music always got me pumped up.

3 had a very different feel, there were levels where you would go up the stratosphere, felt almost contemplative in comparison to its more action-oriented predecessor
