I'll mirror that sucker on mediafire, not right now, but next time I see a TF thread on /vr/, I'll post the link.

Is that a ready-to-go version?

That's what I remember it for, that dark mood, but not in a edgy Dante way.

Nvm you got my hopes up there.

Its actually doubly sad because hardly any RTS has ever been open-sourced. Its rare enough to get the source to a huge-selling game without seeing the name Carmack or id. I don't think I've ever seen a professionally developed RTS go open-source other than HW.

>>427175
Uhhh, what? AFAIK only HW1 got a src release

>> No.427142 [View]

I'll bump to that, homeworld is a truly great game.

Pity no one ever got round to doing anything cool with the ssource

Also, without nostalgia goggles, is Exile a good game? I haven't played it since the Amiga 500 days. I remember thinking it was something new and exciting. I don't really want to go back to it if I'm gonna feel it's aged like fish.

Am I wrong to be pissed off at the general assumption that the publishers make when a game becomes popular i.e. "Wow, hey, Resident Evil sold well! This automatically means gamers will want at least 15 sequels after which they will hate the series they THOUGHT they loved to begin with! Amazing logic! I can see how gamers will actually thank us with real money for raping a game they loved!"

>Mario and Link however have still been consistently good

If consistent means consistently dropping in quality with each consecutive title, then yeah.

Agreed. I've never been a massive Megaman fan, sure I've played them and enjoyed them. But I get why people don't bash on it like they do to newer Zeldas or Metroids for example. It's smart because it's not kicking the old fans in the teeth while not ignoring the fact that there will be new people coming on board.

>namedropping
That's the sad thing about it. Having that low an opinion of the fanbase that you piss on their memories and repay them with shit.

I've played many sequels that eclipsed the older games, like Links Awakening or Super Metroid, but that's kinda what I asked in the OP, when is it enough? I don't know personally. I guess I wish people were smart enough to not make their buying decision on the name alone, I know I'm expecting too much from humanity there.

I don't have a problem with TLoD, it didn't get endless shitty dumbed-down sequels.

Is there a point after which they should be killed off and allowed to retain the dignity of their glory days instead of being wheeled out every couple of years until the dead horse is raped and butchered and fed to gypsies?

Should newer generations of gamers be forced to get older consoles (or maybe just buy them as 'classic' PSN/XBLA titles) in order to enjoy these characters that began life on the 8/16/32-bit generation?

Looking at Mario, Sonic, Link/Zelda, Samus (perfect example), FF, but also later 32-bit titles like ResEvil, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear (Solid) (which I do love but I know at some point it's gonna be treated like shit (i.e. the buyer is going to be treated like a fucking casual), already saw that with MGR:R recently) and where the publishers just could not stop milking it until the milk had diluted to water.

Do people here actually play GGPO? I'm totally up for that shit. Is it hard to setup and start playing?

Those answers you've already been given, and also collision detection is supposed to be easier and more accurate with polys.

First saw it in it's natural habitat, the arcade. Love at first sight.

SSF4 does bring back a lot of the good feelings, yes. Its never gonna be a perfect replica of the feels and fun had, but it's a good replacement.

This. Whether it's post-1999 is ambiguous based on its release on the N64 which is clearly allowed. Why call someone a shitstain and bring down the quality of the board over this?
If you really think its too new (consensus here seems to think it's not), just report and hide.

>they'd completely miss the point with the factions all being utterly fucking vile in one way or another.

That's simultaneously what is so good about SMAC and what is so bad about gaming in general today, everything is generic, no time is taken to create subtleties and nuances in factions/characters, they think we aren't intelligent enough to appreciate and enjoy that.
How many games, retro or not, are there where the AI ever behaves differently from other AI characters?

I actually don't mind if someone makes a thread that is unlikely to be high in quality, most of us will just ignore it and it'll drop off. Hopefully most of us here have the sense to not start replying to a shit thread with stuff like '0/10', 'op is a faggot', 'stfu nigger', and similar. Hopefully.

HOPEFULLY.
