You can just hire rookies to do that, they're so much cheaper and you can fit more of them on board.

Terror sites and UFOs will also only disappear on the hour; that is, at XX:00.

If you send your skyranger toward it a terror site right away, make it patrol from say 4:05 to 4:55, then send it moving toward the target from 4:55 to 5:05, patrol again from 5:05 to 5:55 etc. you can make the journey there take long enough for the sun to come up but also guarantee that the site won't disappear.

I like to think of it as a convenience pick. It doesn't help you research techs or build ships any faster, but it makes invasions much less of a hassle if you do manage to defeat the defending fleet.

You don't really need all those techs, spending those 8 picks elsewhere can be much more useful.

In my last game I picked the following:

+Unification
+Large Home World
+Telepathic
+Warlord
-Ground Combat -10
-Low Gravity

I love having Telepathic and Warlord. Warlord lets me build a lot of ships early while also helping my ships win against enemies at equal tech level, and with Telepathy I can instantly assimilate a population into my Unification with no need for transports. Fortunately, in that game my closest neighbor were the Bulrathi (Repulsive, Tolerant) who seemed to be teching really slowly, so I was able to mind control myself a decent production population as soon as my first Battleships were out. Could've gotten them even sooner with Cruisers, but the Antarans wrecked my first fleet right when I was about to attack.

For the record though, I only play against Impossible AIs so I'm not even trying to do a viable multiplayer build.

I got stuck at the first-person maze level for a little while, but it was pretty short and I was able to memorize it eventually.

It's been ages since I last played it but I vaguely recall that the furthest I got was a level where you have to get away from the dog chasing you.

Fucking this. I played it so many times and always got stuck and lost interest at the water level.

I emulated it a couple of years ago and got to the end using save states just to give myself closure.

>WC1 is a pain to play now

I actually just played through the campaigns last week for the first time. I'd tried them before, but never got very far.

The missions are really obnoxiously designed in that you need vision to 1) see the enemy coming and be able to defend efficiently and 2) find the fucking gold mines that are all over the place, but there are random enemy units scattered around the map who'll aggro on you and chase you all the way home if you're unfortunate enough to run into them.

This time I just said fuck it and used a map cheat to get full vision at the beginning of each mission, the game was actually moderately fun then. A bit simple though since all I had to do was build a line of upgraded spearmen/archers that would obliterate anything the AI would throw at me, build some catapults in later missions, and for the last missions I went full elemental/demon spam.

I've never heard anyone call WC2 ugly before.

Bomberman 64
Mario Kart 64
Goldeneye
Lylat Wars aka Star Fox 64

I had countless hours of fun playing all of these with friends and siblings.
I played a ton of PC and Playstation as well but I don't recall any particularly memorable or enjoyable multiplayer games for some reason. Diablo 2 would definitely be one, but that's barely not retro.

>Sure the cloaking device is in the game, it should be on a world somewhere in Ur-Quan space. It's tricky to find though since it won't show up on energy scans on account of it being a cloaking device, so you'll have to roam around the surface of each world to look for it.

The original, absolutely. There's two notable remakes, but neither should be played before the original.

Half-Life Source has mostly identical assets to the original, just ported into the Source engine, but it has a lot of bugs that weren't present in the original. For the most part they're visual glitches but some that can be game-breaking.

Black Mesa is a fan-made re-imagining of the original game made from scratch; they have some nice ideas but it's not the same experience at all. And it's not complete yet, anyway.

On top of that, once you finish Half-Life, you'll probably want to play the expansions, and it's probably better to play them all in the same engine rather than switch from Source to GoldSrc halway. Not to mention all the great mods that only work with the original.

The tank in Gunman Chronicles was pretty sweet and not on rails, couldn't they do something similar to that?

The pathfinding in HL:Source is great compared to the original, but there are a number of graphical and other pretty bad glitches as well. The last time I played it a few weeks ago was a pretty lousy experience.

Helicopter hitboxes were way off, sitting scientists hover far above their chairs, barnacle tongues appeared to be retracted but you still got caught if you walked under them, loading a quicksave at the wrong time in Questionable Ethics caused a scripted sequence to trigger too early and lock a door in front of me, forcing me to noclip to make progress... That one revamped skybox somewhere around Surface Tension did look nice though.

The original version is absolutely the definitive one, at best HL:Source is an interesting curiosity that one might want to check out if they've already played the original and want something slightly different for a replay. Besides, anyone playing HL for the first time should play Opposing Force next, and it's probably good to experience them both in the same engine.

You are correct, but we weren't talking about SC1, hence the "/off-topic" at the end of my post there. A post that's now been deleted talked about Goliaths in SC2.

Not that Goliaths are required in SC1 either, going full Marine even without Medics is a pretty fun way to beat the campaign.

>> No.2220586 [View]

>>2220564
You really don't need Goliaths in any mission. Medics and Marines will get you through the entire campaign just as well if you know how to split, with a few exceptions where massing Siege Tanks is the easiest way to beat the mission. /off-topic

That's the point. Reavers, storm etc. are too good against bio, since they force Terrans to go mech 99,9% of the time.

Having more variety in a matchup would be a good thing, so in that sense those units are overpowered.

Redemption, USS Darkstar, They Hunger trilogy, Gunman Chronicles if that counts. I just played through them all again recently for the first time in many years, it was wonderful.
