Hey, at least Irvine is mandatory. I don't think Yuffie and Vincent had to be in the party. They weren't even in any of the CGI sequences if I remember correctly. But they made up for it by having their own sub quests.

Does the random rule algorithm for Triple Triad prefer weaker cards? I hated that stupid rule and how i unintentionally spread it over the world. I later unsuccessfully tried to make it disappear from the world.

Also: would you at least attribute part of the scorn FF8 gets to Spoony's review? Obviously, I expect the game to be kind of debated before him, but you know, whether he made disliking FF8 somewhat popular.

FF1 for the GBA turned out to be too easy but sill tedious for me.

The encounter rate is all over the place. Sometimes it takes a while till you get into a battle, other times it happens just after a couple of steps.

But overall, the enemies are really easy and give you enough money and EXP to effortlessly level up and buy all the stuff you need. Not to mention that most treasure chests contents are large sums of gil.

Would it be safe to say that out of the main characters, Irvine is the most unremarkable?

Seriously, he hasn't left much of an impression with me.

I really like the title logo for 8. It has a "Knight and his Princess/Queen" thing going for it.

It's been too long since I gave FF8 a full playthrough, but I don't remember Squall being particularly emo or angsty. So every time someone brings that up I take it with a grain of salt.

This song really gives off a feeling of dignity and honor in my opinion.

Ended up as Cleric.

Which difficulty do you prefer?

I just finished the two additional Heretic episodes and found that the normal setting is not so much challenging as it is just tedious. I wanted to move on to Hexen now, trying out the Ultra-Violence equivalent with a random character roll.

I ended up at Shepard because I tried answering the questions as I would in real life.

It's really a weird starting scenario. But moreso that you have no real idea what to do yet.

I remember trying 4 on an Master System emulator. I ended up as a shepherd, was on an island with a destroyed town with no real idea what to do and got my ass handed to me.

I take Shepard is a class best reserved for another playthrough?

I got a bit ahead when I emulated it on KEGA Fusion, but it wouldn't record my save. You need to do some tweaking in order for it to do that apparently.

I would say IX. Although I have never touched my copy of XII.

X was just so linear. Yeah, they all were to a degree, but prior to this you at least at somewhat an illusion of free choice like the world map. X dropped all of that for a linea corridor fest. It made the gameworld feel really tiny, didn't help that the towns were so sparse and small either. Battlesystem was pretty good however. Maybe I should try replaying it in hard mode or whatever the International version has. You know, where you are not only on a set path for the characters on the sphereboard.
