Yeah, it's turn-based, but it's ATB in the sense that everyone has a progress bar for their turns. So rather than just going in a set order, faster characters will get more turns.

The combat is like a mock-fighting game where you enter button sequences to do "Deathblows", but really it's pretty standard JRPG stuff for its time. There's two modes of combat (on foot and in "gears") but they are not wildly different on a fundamental level.

I always wanted the other games in the "quintology", though Munch was a step down from Abe, and including Abe as costar only helped to water down the new elements. It'd be cool if they explored vastly different regions of Oddworld.

Apparently, after this shit-ass new version of Abe's Oddysee, they're making the stupid RTS (why, Lorne?) and then finally Sligstorm. I bet it'll suck after sitting on the back burner for so long, though.

Almost an immaculate video game if not for some uneven challenges. Probably the single best game world ever created (while not necessarily being the overall best piece of work).

S3&K and DKC2 are more or less on equal ground, but I'd probably have to go with Sonic if I could only play one. It's just a more stimulating platform game and it stays that way with time, whereas DKC2 is fun to replay but you already know all the secrets then.

Not really all that similar to SMRPG, but still good. I really like the first Superstar Saga and the first Paper Mario, but I'm not as fond of those series' sequels as others are.

The former, which is canon via Ultimania.

Basically, if you loved TLJ's story and world, it's a great sequel and a must play, but if you just play point-and-clicks for the gameplay, Dreamfall is a terrible game.

Medaling Aquas is a matter of thinking about your targets in a systematic and deliberate fashion. So I always found it easier than the other levels.

>> No.803241 [View]

I don't really hate Aquas and I always held out hope that there were others who thought this way. It's a little slow, yeah, but you still get to blow up a lot of shit, and having infinite torpedoes is fun. And the boss is fun, if easy.

Also, you get to hear some of the better quotes, like "I guess Slippy's not such a screw-up after all."

>> No.803209 [View]

Titania is probably the least-played level because no one ever lets that boss actually live long enough to knock Slippy down. At least, I've played it less than any other level in the game. The Landmaster is a bit awkward, especially when you're used to the Arwing.

I don't really fault you. Star Fox isn't a terribly difficult game, but there are parts that can best you if you don't buckle down.

Open your controller input and look at what key the A button is bound to. Return to game. Hold key. If this fails, bind new key to A.

If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to say, because it seems to indicate the program isn't recognizing continued button presses, which effectively means you made it through 95% of the game without running, using Dixie's helicopter twirl, or holding any object for an extended period of time.

I found Barbos impossible when I was a kid and never even saw the final world until much later, but now I can't see what I had trouble with. I think I found it intimidating for some reason and I had trouble aligning the missiles correctly.

Now, I find it the most formulaic boss in the game. The missiles are easy to line up if you just make one wide circle, and the needles it shoots in the other phase are very simple to avoid, only requiring minute movements.

According to a GameFAQs guide, your probability of winning 30 GP (winning three rounds) is roughly 1 in 10, and 300 GP (four rounds) about 1 in 100. And you can't win the 5th round as it's a gimmick.

I went to that Smiles a few times. I'm always in Orange/Milford. One of the last times I can remember hanging out with my friend before he died. Then they killed the arcade just for good measure. Fate is cruel.

Rico doesn't suck that hard. There are points in the game where he is roughly as effective as any other member. Early on, his gear is very powerful. I mean, it's not even possible to lose to Gebler in Kislev because they just can't damage his gear, even the Hecht.

If there was anyone that needed an extra arc, it was Rico. Preferably late game when Kislev starts getting destroyed and he'd have to confront his father.

Traps are underrated in Baldur's Gate, but don't load up too hard on set snare even if you're actually going to use them. No Thief skill requires a crooked number even by the end of the sequel (to put things in perspective you can open any chest in the series with only about 100 lockpicking to my knowledge).

I've never really thought about Mage/Thief synergies that much, but it makes empirical sense to load up on spells like Invisibility and Shadow Door because you can get in more cheesy backstabs in a single fight. I am not 100% sure backstab triggers out of invisibility as well as stealth so don't quote me on that. Somehow I think it does because I can recall quaffing Potions of Invisibility to backstab harder.

If you equip Chu-Chu right, she's good for gear dungeon crawling. Your overall power output is lower, but you can last longer because she can heal gears. Like, when you first get to Deus and don't have any Angel Armor yet, you can waste tons of fuel very early on in the dungeon just from getting hit so hard and having to use Frame HP. And if Chu-Chu herself loses all her HP? Simply heal her up outside combat and her gear HP will be full again.

>>760057
Agility, which in XG is turn speed (I'm not sure if it affects accuracy/dodge either?).

Aside from her and the big Chooch, I mean. But in regard to gear options, I think Maria is better off going physical since you can load her with power-increasing equipment without slowing her down.

>> No.759917 [View]

>>759747
In general, nothing amazing. Everyone knows Elly and Emeralda are the only ones really worth using Ether, and honestly later in the game I think you're better off just using Deathblows.

One special option that doesn't actually suck: Billy's Buntline options. If you buff him, you can get close to the damage limit. With the rest of the characters' Ethers and Options, the multipliers are so pitiful that even if you give them equipment they are still not worth using.

Fei's Chi isn't terrible, but it's almost never his best asset except early on if you equip him right. Also, one of his Weltall-2 abilities, Flaming Hell, has a 7.5x multiplier, which sounds like it could be abused, but in the long run it's probably more efficient to just run System Id.
