Parents bought this game for me and my brother somewhere during the summer of 1986. This is one of the only games I remember that made my jaw drop at the start-up menu. The only game in my opinion that comes to a draw is Mega Man :)

So, the solution was to go to the local video store and try to find it on dollar day.

Unfortunately I did not really remember the game's name, and after searching for a long time I found a game that, to my untrained eye, sort of resembled it.

I looked in the back and there was a guy with a pointy hat, and it was much more colorful but I thought hey maybe it's a sequel or something.

I was like what the heck I'll try it.

MY MIND WAS BLOWN

the game? Pic related.

You might know a little bit about it.

Weird, I don't recall gathering useless pendants in LoZ NES. Face it: ALttP was the beginning of the end for the Zelda franchise.

Picked this up on Club Nintendo a few days ago and holy god I could not stop playing, game was amazing. At first I was like, "hah! This game is nothing! I don't know why I used to think this was hard!" Then dungeons 5 and 6 rolled around and oh boy...

Anyways, thinking of playing Metroid 1 next, how's that game? Played Link to the Past and Super Metroid recently so that sorta inspired me to go on a Zelda/Metroid binge.

So I want to play the original Legend of Zelda. Any hints or tips before I start?

I want to beat the Legend of Zelda, but I don't feel like just reading a guide and following through. Is there a way I can find out the secrets of the game, where all the dungenons are, just the essential knowledge, without having my hand be held?

Not my personal favorite, but easily the "greatest" in my opinion.

Honestly curious: how many of you consider the original Legend of Zelda to be better than A Link to the Past, or for that matter, any of the other Zelda games?

It wasn't until earlier this year when I replayed the game that I realized how great the non-linearity and feeling of discovery feels. You actually feel like you're going on an adventure, and the fact that you can play it in any way you want with little consequences for exploring and trying new things adds to the experience in a big way. It's a sensation that the later Zelda games, which are very Point A to Point B, don't live up to.

This one. Because it's the first one I played where you didn't go through a "stage" or self-contained levels. It was a big world where you could explore and had to overcome many different obstacles, puzzles & enemies. It felt like a journey.

I don't think it matters.
