It was as powerful as the Gamecube, easily. Developers were just starting to get really comfortable on the console by the time Sega pulled the plug. And instead of releasing the stopgap Dreamcast, they could easily have taken a couple years to develop a truly next-generation console which could also serve as the basis for an arcade system.

Dreamcast and Gamecube were the only true 6th generation consoles.

Xbox was 6.5 gen. It was way ahead of its time and could even run Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

PS2 was 5.5 gen because it consistently had the worst graphics and performance of any of the consoles.

Was Sonic Adventure 2 a masterpiece?

This truly is a showcase game for the Dreamcast and while I remember it looking good. I don't think I remembered it being that impressive when I was younger as I probably didn't appreciate how crazy it was to look this great while pushing a solid 60fps as well.

Retroid: Well built, powerful, but expensive (100$+)

I have some high resolution pictures I want to share with you but the largest I can upload is 4mb. These uncompressed pngs are over 7mb each and even compressed jpg are 5mb but I don't want to show you those since the compression really makes the image look terrible. Here is half of one of the pngs. Just zoom in on her eye holy shit it's really good. I can't believe how good these came out. I managed to pull these out of the Dreamcast version of Gunbird 2 and I also used a 4k resolution so that's why it's so big but I think they came out amazing. Even on the wallpaper board the largest I can post is 6mb. Is there any board on here that I can upload 7-10mb?

I'm looking for an arcade stick so I can have a good /vr/cade setup for classic fighting games and also modern fightans. I'll be emulating on PC, maybe also using dreamcast/saturn with an adaptor.

What are my options and what should I go for?

What is it about this company that attracts the weirdest people I know? I used to hypothesize it was just standard Sonic the hedgehog furfag stuff, but some of the guys I know who love Dreamcast and shit don't even care for Sonic and are just bizarre cretin trannies. What's the deal with Sega? Why is it the "weird one" among retro games? Or maybe this perception is off? What do you think is the "weird one" that attracts weird people more than the others?

Why do most zoomers hate arcade games? they reserve the most vile words for those types of games, and they'll describe successful systems with lots of arcade games as having no games because they don't play like cinematic crap. What went wrong? Will the NES, Mega Drive, PC Engine, Saturn, Dreamcast, and proper arcade cabinets ever receive proper due from the mouths Gen-Z? Can Gen-A rebel against them and form a counternarrative, is arcade gaming destined to be seen like black and white movies are seen today?

Yes, it's another what if thread. At least this one isn't (specifically) about how the Saturn/Dreamcast could've won - more like how that trainwreck would have done in an environment with less competition.
Let's say everything progresses as normal, except the PS1 just doesn't materialize after the fallout with Nintendo. So no SNES CD, the Saturn releases at the same time and as the same product that it did in reality, probably same-ish for the N64.
My guess is that it turns out similar to how the Genesis did, but with Nintendo in Sega's position - the N64 is huge in the US, Europe is split, Saturn is huge in Japan. The big thing that initially hit Nintendo with the PS1 was the mass exodus of Japanese devs from SFC to PS1 due to Sony being much easier to work with. The PS1 was probably favored over the Saturn due to technical superiority/less mismanagement/wads of cash from Sony, but without a PS1 I can see everyone flocking to the Saturn instead. Meanwhile the N64 is a hit in NA just like it was in reality, driven by Nintendo first/second-party and Western titles, but even bigger without the competition from the PS1. It could be one of the biggest gaps between mainstream console choice in NA vs JP in history, competing only with pre-NES and a certain not-retro period.
There's also the 3DO to consider. Would the PS1's absence give them time to sort themselves out, drop prices and have a shot at being a real contender?
