Why is Brutal Doom hated?

>I find the Doom community pretty unhealthy despite how productive it appears at the surface.
A lot of the more productive people (especially the ones still enjoying making stuff) went off in their own directions instead of sticking to these megaclique servers and forums.

It really kills the fun when you're just trying to make something cool and all the people surrounding you are doing is bitching about Brutal Doom still.

Xcom - UFO unknown with mods
Steel Panthers world at war / Main battle tank
Deus ex
SOTN
OOT
Splinter cell chaos theory
Metroid prime
Might and Magic 2 - gates to another world & Isles of Terra
SMT 2
MGS 1
Rainbow six 3 raven shield
Kirby Superstar Saga
Goldeneye
Dino Crisis 2
KQ Heir today gone tomorrow
KQ mask of eternity
Kohan immortal sovereigns
Brutal Doom

That's it, that's the list of games I'd leave for my children to play. I own plenty of NES, genesis, and SNES but those games are not timeless

r/doom is nothing but 2016/eternal and brutal doom memes. No another doom community is like the reddit's one (luckily).

But yeah GZDoom/Brutal Doom are worst experiences because they enable that by default lol.

you don't need brutal doom for this

>> No.9179861 [DELETED]  [View]

Agreed. Brutal Doom is what makes Classic Doom playable because it gives hitboxes to monsters. I can't describe how pathetic it is to see people playing vanilla Doom and aiming to the sky or to the ground and still hitting enemies. This could work back in the early 90's when people didn't use a mouse to aim, but nowadays is unacceptable.

And before that it was Brutal Doom. And before (and during, and after) it was random dev drama resurfacing. There will be no killing myself, but you should slap yourself on the face pretty hard, and do it every time you decide to post something like this. Hell, before you post in general, just to be safe.

This so much. There like 20 or 30 different forks of brutal doom out there right now and you don't hear anyone complaining

I'd believe this unironically, but mostly because Brutal Doom seems to appeal more to people I'd call "outside the Doom community" (they feel better defined as smaller, more insular sub-communities—like the "ZDoom community".)

Stop poisoning the well by mentioning Skillsaw. At least his wads have level-design and he deserves all of the praise he's gotten over the years. Ribbiks has done more harm to the doom community than Brutal Doom and I'm not even joking.

Doom mods had the same pace and gameplay for years. Brutal Doom was different: it was fast paced and dynamic. The amount of mechanics and the gore made the mod immensely popular. This triggered lots of modders, who out of envy tried to cope by saying that was "changing Doom"(even if wsd hypocrite coming from them) like it shouldn't be played like that. Things got worse then the creator made some edgy racist jokes on his codes for shit and giggles, even being a brazilian. This gave them enough argument aka excuse to ban him. Little it did because not only the popularity of the mod kept increasing but also created another very popular mod: Project Brutality. The cherry of the cake was when Romero himself praised the mod and the 2016 ended having many similarities to both Brutal Doom and Project Brutality. That's why many "purists" seethes and dilates whenever they see people talking good about Brutal Doom. The mod is fucking awesome by the way and I played it after having played other Doom wads and boomer shooters.
Haters gonna hate now that I told the truth.

so why do retro fps fans hate brutal doom?

As someone who never liked Mark or Brutal Doom, but who likes Hideous Destructor a lot, with Matt seeming like generally a nicer person to interact with, I still agree with this post pretty strongly.
It's gutless, plain and simple.

fun post.
>if people hated that brutal doom and its fanbase "overshadowed" either most mods or parts of the base game, what does that say about new fans circa the new official games?
i'd imagine to many it would be "buckle up" because the direction they took from 2016 to eternal and the latter's reception is pretty indicative of the series' direction now.
i've also not seen fans of a game be this passionate/vapid since dark souls first went live on pc.

to be fair: mark's got a game coming out, and there's still a fatass brutal doom community.
not that it matters much since anyone into HD is reasonably spoiled by it and can just rip assets from mark's upcoming game for a "skinpack."
