Discuss any mods or repairs you're working on here!

The majority of problems with cartridge-based consoles can be remedied by cleaning the cartridge slot and the contacts of your games even if they are not visibly dirty. Consult the Game and Console Cleaning guide here:

Got questions about repairs, mods, or other technical details? Bring 'em here.

If your console has trouble reading games or self-resets, you may just need to clean it. Check out the game an console cleaning guide first before asking questions here:
http://www.gametechwiki.com/w/index.php/Game_and_Console_Cleaning

GTW needs more repair and mod info! If you're working on a project, consider adding what you learn (or links to guides you use) on the wiki.

I have a few specific requests for guides that fall outside the scope of repairs and mods I've done myself. These topics have come up several times in the threads, and it would be very helpful if the wiki could get guides for them:

+ Game cartridge battery replacement
+ Famicom A/V mod
+ Dreamcast laser adjustment
+ Gameboy backlight mod

RETRO CONSOLES WIKI HAS A NEW HOME!

www.gametechwiki.com

A message board has also been set up: forums.gametechwiki.com (yes it's shit right now, be patient)

Discuss any repairs or hardware mods you're working on here! If you've already completed a mod or repair, consider sharing what you learned on the wiki or adding a link to any guides or materials you found useful.

I am looking for service manuals to host on the wiki. If you have any, please add them to the wiki or email them to me at item.three@gmail.com. Here is the list of service manuals already on the wiki: http://www.gametechwiki.com/w/index.php/List_of_service_manuals

http://retroconsoles.wikia.com

A few days ago, I made a thread about an idea I had for a website about repairing and modding retro game consoles, and after some suggested starting a free wiki, Retro Consoles Wiki was born. In addition to guides on repairs and mods, the goal is to collect detailed information on the hardware of each console, including high-res motherboard scans, identification of the chips, and links to their documentation or even pages on the wiki about them. Other topics such as controller mods, flashcarts, modchips, homebrew programming information, and anything else like that will be a part of it as well.

Right now, the wiki is at a very early stage with only 4 pages, all written by me, and all far from complete. So far I've only written a couple of hardware-related articles, but I think they give an idea of what I'm going for:
http://retroconsoles.wikia.com/wiki/Sega_Genesis_Hardware
http://retroconsoles.wikia.com/wiki/Sega_Genesis_Cartridge

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

-Write an article (obviously)

-I can understand not wanting to jump in and start contributing to some nubile, ambitious project that could be dead by tomorrow, so I just ask that if you think you could use or contribute to something like this in the future that you bookmark it and check back later.

-I need quality motherboard pictures for all retro consoles! Please help me track them down. Ideally you should be able to read the text on the chips and the board itself.

-If in the future you perform a repair for which information was difficult to find, please consider writing a brief article about the problem. This applies to anyone whose ever relied on info from a forum post dated before 2005.

-Please give me design advice! I don't know anything about choosing pleasing color schemes or layouts, and so I would like your input on how the wiki should look and what kind of navigation features there should be.

I'll appreciate any feedback you can give me!
