It's weird how it became the norm to hate on 3 on 4chan (or at least, from what I see here), it used to be a game that somehow united /v/ back in 2008 when the fan translation released (before gamergate and before 2016, it was a different /v/ but shitposting was still rampant, however Mother 3 was one of the rare topics that made people post positively, everyone was in love with the game).
Fast forward to 2024 and everybsays it suuuuucks. Well, "everyone", maybe it's just one guy samefagging, who knows.
Speaking of, what happened to that one autist that spammed that whole juxtaposition stuff? He used to spam a lot and suddenly disappeared.

I'll take the chance to ask here because jannies absolutely hate any thread about the community itself. I noticed a massive influx of zoomers now. What gives? Did gamergate 2.0 happen? There are threads asking where to start in the zelda franchise for fuck's shake.

So I remember around a decade ago when I was talking similar shit with the gamergate shit breaking, and I was trying to explain to a buddy the split between "Gamergate is about sexism" and the "Gamergate is about ethics in journalism" and my buddy said "who the fuck cares about the integrity of video games journalism". That always stuck with me because though I like games, I do not think generally they are worth much deep thought or criticism beyond "this has good mechanics and is polished" versus "shovelware garbage". At the point you're debating the efficacy of children's toys I feel you've invested way too much of your identity in trash. I blame youtube essayists for giving a generation of zoomies the false hope that video games are respectable works of art versus participatory entertainment. It's even less respectable than a group of pseud shills debating the artistic merits of an Avengers movie or the technical beauty of the opening of revenge of the sith. That's fine if that's you, but most adults will look down on that behavior and I doubt they are wrong.

I agree with some of this. The US plateaued in the 50's-90's is the why I like to think of it. The 50's is for sure the peak of the country. At least at the moment. Everything has been kind of a slow down hill though. The economy in the 90's was good if you were already rich or were investing in globo-homo because there was no real economic competition. China was was still America's toy makers and the former USSR was importing from the west Adidis track suits of all things. The gopnik became a meme. So if you were. in business already you were doing great. I don't think wages are necessarily the only thing to look at to judge an economy's health but yeah wages were stagnant and nothing Wall Street did could help that as much as the media would want you to believe. I look back kn the era fondly but not because of economic policy or anything like that. Just the people. The places. All of that is gone. We're not going to get that feeling back. It's one of those things that instead of wanting to run forward I should have just planted my heels and enjoyed the moment. In many ways it was kind of a frightening decade. We should have payed more attention to it. There's missed clues there about the kind of world we have today hidden in that decade. Some kind of (((unseen force))) driving us to our own end. In many ways video games were a remedy to that. Video Games until Gamergate were a white male thing. It was a safe space for men to be men. To conquer, to fight, to race and do all of those things we wanted to do. There's a reason they blamed shit like Columbine on violent video games and rock/metal. They don't want us to have a bastion like video gaming offered. It was very much an underground for us to escape to.

That's mostly the /v/ age (#gamergate). The /vr/ age programmer generally liked his/her own fanbase and didn't consider gamers to be male-privileged losers.
One does however wonder about "Infidel" from Infocom, if that author had Things To Say about the Scott Adams school of loot-the-pyramid adventure.
And of course "Crypt of Medea" and "Space Quest" (especially #2) enjoyed tormenting players who weren't smart enough to figure out their unfair pizzles, but - ehh, maybe that doesn't count, "Git Gud" and all that.
