Does anyone know if the connectivity between the GBA and Gamecube is ''region locked? I downloaded Wario World on my Wii and tried to play the Wario Ware demos that you unlock on that game but the game just wouldn't connect to my gba, same with the NES games on Animal Crossing. At first i thought it was because my GBA is from Europe and i was playing NTSC versions of the games but then i connected Fire Emblem and Sacred Stones to my copy of Path Of Radiance to download the trial maps and the art gallery and the games worked so i don't really know what's wrong here anymore

I've been going through the romset as I had an unexplainable urge to check out an important starting point for videogames in Japan. I can't really recommend it, but I need closure so I wrote some autistic shit and will make some collages. I know it's of very little interest considering it's not just an 8-bit micro or even a Japanese 8-bit micro, but literally the first fully built one in Japan. So without further ado.

The PC-8001 was one of the first full micros released in Japan in 1979 by NEC.
It's target demographic was businesses, but it became the computer to have for early hobbyists too.
Mainly due to its 168000 yen pricetag, comparing that to the Apple II (358k), PET (298k) or even TRS-80 (248k) that was cheap.

It came with a Z80 compatible CPU at 4 Mhz (an NEC μPD780C-1) and 24K ROM and 16K RAM (32K expandable) as standard.
For screen modes, you had 160x100 with 8 colour graphics and an 80x25 text mode and for sound obviously a beeper.
As for the text itself, it was an 8x8 font with various display attributes (20 per line) and RGB colour support. It also had text-based semi-graphics.

For ports: video, cassette, parallel printer, serial port and an expansion bus.
For expansion you'd need to get the PC-8011 expansion unit.
You'd be able to fit 32K RAM and an extra 8K of rom as well as a PIC, PIT, FD controller, a parallel and IEEE-488 port.

It came with N-BASIC in its 24K of ROM which is based on V4.51 of Microsoft's Disk BASIC.
It's pretty, well...basic, so expanded disk BASICs were released for the various models. This would require an expensive floppy drive however.

It also is considered historically important by Japan to be inducted as tech heritage and it got its own Mini during the mini craze.
It's not the only one of course. So maybe shop around for another if you are interested, you'll likely get the better titles on it anyway.

How old is your version of J80? You are likely going to have to use it for anything mkII(SR) anyway unless MAME ripped it off at some point. Tape/cassette options aren't an issue either as the commands for loading them should be in the filename for the neokobe set as well as in the extra and J80 will scan the tapefile for programs as well.

Either way suit yourself, I'll still dump a link for a pretty new version of J80 with some old bios that are set-up enough for the 3 main PC-8001s to work. You could probably re-use the bios for others, but they all seem to have their own naming schemes.

I've completed less than 10 JRPGs in my lifetime and most of the ones I have completed I used a fast foward feature. Their plots tend to be nonsensical and drag. They are overally tedious, if you take out the grinding you cut half the playtime. Harder difficulties just require you to grind more. I've tried dozens of them and tend to drop them in the first few hours, most of the ones I've completed I regret sticking with.

I bought a bunch of those Sega CD/Saturn reproductions and have replaced most of my games with the new shell, while using the old inserts.

I actually had the least issue with Swamp Fox (at least for everything sans the platinum relics), it was mostly hoping the AI would have a brainfart and start hitting each other while you shoot them from behind or use mines.

The one thing that helped me a lot for N.Ballism and Sky Balls was pausing the game to see where the balls would go, its still hard as shit to complete but it helps to deal with these cheating fucks.

lol that's some good discipline. I would never be able to leave the game like this, just because I would be too tempted to get the platinum relics on at least a few levels, like all of the crate crush ones for example. I loved Space Bash so much, that I would always go replay it after getting a difficult item, as sort of a victory lap.

Says something when even speedrunners have this on the guide section.
Also yes Crate Crush are the most fun minigames and actually enjoyable to do their extra challenges.

I've watched a few of those just to see how they handled sky balls and n.ballism. pretty damn impressive, I even saw a perfect platinum relic round on Sky Balls where the guy finished with 20. It looked like the biggest run killer was by far that fucking crystal.

I got bored and watched that caddicarus guy get the platinum on n.ballism, the way he absolutely shits on the game after getting it after an hour or so of doing that shit before he turns the stream off was priceless.
