Not a problem, that can be learnt. It's actually a pretty good boss because the things you have to do against him are pretty unique (in MM games and action games in general, tons of similar patterns tend to repeated, it's not often that you find something that makes you rethink how you play action games, like Street Figther 2010, but Burner Man is one of those things)

Holy fuck never knew this. I wish we could go back so badly. I recall seeing RE2 and Halo 2 had short development times although not 3 months short. To think these people used to put out legendary classics we still discuss and love today. Meanwhile modern gaming is full of years long development cycles and the games are piles of shit anyways.

Three months would be 480 hours of work per staff member, if there were no meetings and they worked on the game like a machine. Maybe they designed most of the levels and characters in the NES era in a notebook and simply had to make it.

Maybe it's the case that HoMM3 perfected this style of gameplay, so all you can really do is make a competent rehash (HoMMV) or try to build on the gameplay in ways that made the game less fun (all the other sequels).

Anything that's too much like it gets no interest from fans since they can just keep playing HoMM3 like they have for the last few decades.
Any game that tries to copy only parts of HoMM3 with its own unique spin on things is too different, so everyone would rather just keep playing HoMM3.

Funny read. I just love when someone claims to know better than the creators what the game is supposed to be. If the scrip was changed and the change was upheld in later releases it means the writer settled for that revision and not that he dosen't understand his own work. Also the obsession with it being "dark" is funny considering the sequel materials are all generic anime.

The intro was added for the NA release, therefore it was made in 92 while the rest of the game was made in 88.

DW2 was also added an intro which expands on the princess' backstory. That intro was then added to the other version(s) of the game, the SNES one has it at least. But in the case of 3, the Ortega fight remained exclusive to the NES NA version and was absent in the later re-releases.

I love the game to death, but while thematically the repetitive nature makes sense, it rarely switches things up in the level design to make the exploration worthwhile and even with the bosses that it can get a bit tiresome. Besides gaining stronger spells, the bosses don't get any new behaviors or patterns to their attacks.
As for the levels, off the top of my head: Mushroom Forest, Veo Lu Sluice, I THINK River Belle and, to an extent, the Marsh, are the only places that change up the level design a bit, albeit only once, to make the revisits feel fresh. The devs had the right idea adding new/stronger monsters to the levels, but they could've done just a bit more in the level design and boss department.

I was lucky to have friends with GBAs/SPs for multiplayer, but it was a bit shit controlling your character with a d-pad in 3D, semi-action game and even WORSE with the SP's flat as fuck d-pad. It might be better on Dolphin with the mGBA integration using a controller.
