I need help with my SNES and couldn't find an existing console mod/repair thread.

Anyway here's my issue, I have an original North American SNES that has recently begun having issues rendering mode 7 effects. Most sprites will flicker in and out of existence while undergoing mode 7 transformations, for example the pendulum on the Chrono Trigger title screen doesn't even appear at first and only pops in for a second or two at a time until it comes to a stop, after which point is stays on screen as it should. There are some mode 7 heavy games like F-Zero and Mario Kart that don't seem to be affected at all however.

So far I've tried cleaning the cartridges of the affected games as well as the cartridge connector on the system. I've also tried cleaning the contacts on the AV port and swapping AV cables. Nothing seems to have made a difference.

The only help Google has been able to provide is SNES burn-in test ROM which I ran on my flash cart. Everything passed just fine except the final mode 7 scaling test, where the sprite being scaled disappeared for a second or two at a time, though not as frequently as they tend to in games. I should also be noted that the mode 7 rotation test from the same ROM worked just fine. The most recent thing I did before posting here was open up the SNES to check the board for bad caps, but couldn't find any.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem before or have any idea how to fix it?

What I was working on today:

The Atari 7800 ProSystem has the worst controllers ever devised by a man. They just SUCK. The original Atari 2600 controllers are worlds better. But what's best? Sega Genesis controllers.

A few people may not know this, but Sega Genesis controllers work perfectly with an Atari 2600 and an Atari 7800. Use the B button as your fire button. Those are *so* much better.

The only problem with this method on a 7800 is, the 7800 controllers had two buttons and about half of the games for that system require the use of button 2. Obviously the Sega Genesis controller has 3 buttons, so this should be no problem, right? On the two button games, yes, there is a problem. There are some differences between the way the Sega and 7800 treat that second button, so you have to build a circuit for it to work correctly. Well, here is the solution I made this plug this wire into the 7800, then the Genesis controller into the other side of the wire. The 7404 inverter chip takes care of all of the rest for you, I got the plans online.

Now when playing a 7800 game, Buttons B and C on the controller are working. I can now play Choplifter, Pole Position II, and Commando the way they're supposed to be played. (Choplifter is nearly impossible without button 2).

Could someone possibly diagnose my X'Eye? The system cannot play Sega CD games. I know it's not the laser, because it can play music CD's just fine (Genesis games run flawlessly as well). Also, on the startup screen, the X isn't visible, there's only a mess of evenly-spaced purple lines that move in the X's pattern.
