OP got any more photos from when you were younger enjoying games? Or anything recent so we can compare?

I found a super minty CIB copy of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 for the N64 and was really looking for a complete box the last couple months/year and found one for 5$ on craigslist. The guy was about 40 minutes from where I live and we agreed to meet at his place. I got off work late and ended up about 30-40 minutes off of our meet up time and he was saying that he had to go to a birthday party and i felt bad making him wait for 5$ so i gave him a 20 and said it's fine don't worry about it because I felt bad.

I love old photos like these. I have always enjoyed taking photos and keeping them in a safe place so every couple years I can look back on them.

How excited were you to be playing mario bros? Also what is the storyline in these photos? You are sitting beside some presents then running down the hallways with a wrapped NES? Then you are playing it in your room and somebody is taking pictures? I am also curious to see what you look like now OP.

This. Check out the names of the games and try some emulators to see if they are fun or just go by the cover art. It doesn't matter if the games are rare or not they may not be fun and that's what gaming is all about

OP here, I am pretty jelly of that scenario. I don't know if it's because of being born later but I was happy to have the Gamecube when it first came out and it was really cool to see the XBOX come out and be this ultimate gaming machine which brought us a great online system to play with friends. And I think right after Halo 2 hit it's peak is when it all went down hill and we saw the influx of generic games, not saying that we didn't have shit games from other eras but they weren't main stream, they stayed in the shadows and were agreed to be terrible. All of the sequels on the Wii to games I had on the Gamecube and 64 (Like paper Mario) were just a big let down and I lost interest in gaming in the modern era.
I really wish I could have been aware of my good taste like you were when the SNES came out. I've had to buy back all the great RPG and Action games I only realized I enjoyed after emulating in my teen years. I'm still thankful I got my games before the crazy steep prices hit, back when those minty earthbounds with box and guide topped around 200$ BuyItNow.

I feel like gaming has sort of plateaued in terms of it's evolution. The graphics are amazing now but I will probly have more fun playing Link to The Past or Super Metroid than the newest FPS game.

Man really? I think it would be awesome going to an arcade with 3 or 4 friends and trying to get highscores. Maybe it's the whole Grass is Greener on the other side scenario but I really do feel this way. Growing up with the SNES to Gamecube/Wii transition was pretty interesting but before the internet came around or even just as it came out with a few games like Halo 2 where you could play with your friends and it was all new, that was awesome.

But on that same note I hate that I have an iPhone and spend so much time on it and have to set aside time to play my SNES because i still haven't played/beaten all my games and I have a small collection.

I have to agree with both of you here. I still think it would have been awesome to see Mario 3 come out after playing 1 and 2 and watching The Wizard and talking about it with all my friends. But instead I got Mario 3 in a bundle of games from a garage sale in 96' and only had one friend who also had an NES so we played it on and off for a year.

In 2003 I got into emulators and that is when my interest in the SNES went through the roof. I didn't realize how many games I had missed like Secret of Mana/Evermore, FF2 and 3, Chrono Trigger, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel, and all those other games that I never got a chance to buy or had never heard of. With the knowledge I have now though I wish I could go back and be born in the 80's to enjoy all the games I would want without any of the shit games that the NES had.

When was the best time to be born so you could enjoy the pinnacle of gaming?

Personally I was born in 1990 and got the tail end of the era I wanted to be a part of. I grew up with a SNES we got when I was 5 and didn't really understand what was going on in most of the games. I think the best time to be alive would be a two part answer depending on if you want to see the wonders of the Arcade Machines or if you wanted to enjoy the best of Home Gaming. For home gaming I would say being around before the NES was released so you could play Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy when they first came out.

This is true unless you feel like being a completionist and love to mix and match the powers. The only reason I love Kirby 64 is for the mix and matching of power ups, especially the Boomerang and Bomb to make the Throwing Stars.

Yes, they could easily go back to this same game formula and release an updated version with more to do and more stat building and customization options but instead they chose to make a 3d version for the DS and turn it into a fucking emo hack and slash game.

I think I'm gonna boot up my Game+ and try and beat the boss when he first encounters you at a low level and destroys you. I thought that was a neat touch to make Game+ enjoyable.

Is this the first throwing level you encounter? And you are behind the diner and have to line them up PERFECTLY and they just keep coming? I haven't beaten that level yet, and you lose if they touch the diner which is bullshit.

I have been in the same boat as you OP. But so far I have found nothing that compares to the enjoyability of Lufia 2 as far as Random Encounter Rates go and the Puzzles. I can find some good games but they have random encounters and you forget where you were going in the dungeons.

I loved the SNES version but I didn't play a lot of the Genesis version. The SNES version seemed a lot shorter or maybe I was just better at it. It is weird how different they are instead of just being copies of each other.

I didn't play a lot of popular games like Final Fantasy when I was younger but I have them on my shelf ready to be played when I have some time so soon I will be feeling that. How far are you into Lufia 2? It's my favourite RPG on any system by far simply because of the dungeon system with no random battles except on the overworld.

It takes 3 jumps or 11 fireballs to kill him. If you use 2 jumps it will still take 11 fireballs to kill him. He has two seperate health bars for Jumps and Fireballs.

Fuck the sand crawler stage. Everything else is awesome though. One other complaint is that if you die during a boss fight you have to fight the boss with the base gun and it's next to impossible to win
