Yeah, the one in the train doesn't count because it gets stopped by a cutscene either way.
The one with Carlos doesn't count because you're playing as Carlos. You will meet Nemesis as Jill right afterwards though, and that counts.

Did you take note of where those values are located? Are they located at the same address in all versions you tested?
I'd like to check more versions of more regions to see if I was wrong about my theory

>Also is it even worth it to kill him the first time? From what i ready the first 2 times he drops parts for a handgun which doesnt seem worth it,

Btw, drops aren't linked to encounters. What I mean is drop 1 isn't linked to the first encounter, but you get it when you knock out Nemesis the first time, meaning that if you miss en encounter, it will delay what you get and you won't be able to get everything.

There are 2 encounters which don't count: in the train, and when you play as Carlos.
Also, depending on what decisions you make, you can get two free drops, but he'll still get up after those two. Those two still count as the same encounter, no need to knock him out again.

The first fight is the hardest.

You want to use the basic handgun, and make some ammo for it using gunpowder first.

Stay at mid distance, never too close, never too far.
Fire 2-3 shots, run away to mid distance on the other side, repeat.
Always dodge on his right arm, the arm he doesn't attacck with.

have the few herbs you have at this point ready, and good luck

Are you sure? It's not accessed through the main game menu but it has its own executable in the PC version.
Either way googling for another version which has it isn't hard, you don't even need a torrent.

finally made it sub 1h (still PC Sourcenext version played on US Hard), phew, that was close.
I should try to record a run now, but I hav eto admit I got lucky on puzzles AND enemy spawns there for the most part.

Where did you use to get the precise values? Hex editor for PC or PS1 versions?

Also I could swear RE1 had many more difficulty differences not only depending on version but also on region, but maybe I was had by the semi-randomness of enemy HP. Which region/versions have you checked?

Should be fine.

Right click to get the options. If you see weird lines on the backgrounds, turn off texture compatibility.

PC version lets you skip doors as well as cutscenes.

Getting closer to that fateful sub 1h...

What pisses me off is that this was a near perfect run except for the final boss, as it took FOUR railgun shots (instead of two) to kill him because I couldn't lure him into the trajectory well enough... had that gone well i'd probably be sub 1h, oh well

The GC version doesn't have the Nightmare difficulty which the DC version has though, and it's an amazing mode.

For regular plays I'd argue that skipping cutscenes is nice; though iirc, the PC version is still faster, you can't skip cutscenes but you can skip doors.

>>4884713
>You seem to have some turbo autism

Yeah, I guess. I used to do fast runs of RE1-2-3, no saves ,as a teen so it all came back to me quickly.

That's a good time on Leon B. I don't think I ever went below 1h30 but I never really tried to optimize it fully either.

Finally got you beat on this attempt using the Sourcenext version, which seems to be a bit faster than the US one.
I optimized supplies pick up really well here but I think I could go below 1h if I optimize even better and with luck on puzzles and encounters... not sure i'll try though.

With my current tactic there really isn't more than 4-5 mins to save max though I think

New attempt, new personal record. Still using the English PC version on Hard. Got some shit luck on puzzles and I know I can optimize supplies pick up even more, I'm starting to think I should not care for the magnum and use gas grenades only, as it's proven to be incredibly fast against all mandatory bosses.
I do like to have the magnum at hand if I get unlucky Hunter spawns though... lot's of RNG at play for a perfect run.

That puzzle is more than half way through the game. Just try to solve it logically until you get the right combination:
>grey, brown, yellow
>grey, yellow; brown
>yellow, grey, brown
>yellow, brown, grey
>brown, yellow, grey
>brown, grey, yellow

and yes I think it's much better than RE3. It's my favourite RE.

New attempts, tried to optimize supply pick ups but I could do even better. Wasted a few mins on stupid things as well.

>>4882630
afaik all non-Nemesis encounters are semi random. Same for the semi-random item pick ups, they're just that, random, and actions have no effect on them.

Pushing Nemesis off the bridge means that you have to go down the elevator all the way to the water test water; and then go all the way back up; whereas if you jump off you're already down there.

The main difference though is the way Nicholai shows up, so maybe there is a time save there.

Also, do you jump off the cable car or use the brakes? I think jumping off is faster, same principle, and it's rewarded by a pack of gas grenades.
However I'm started to think that using the brakes may lead to an easier Nemesis fight.

>>4882702
Pic related is my 3rd attempt as of recently, hadn't played the game in quite some times.. however, I played this game a LOT, probably a hundred times or more. I used to do "fast runs" as well which would usually end up below 1h30 but I never really tried to optimize it

Second attempt, this time using English version. 11 mins saved already, picked up less supplies but still too many, I'd need to optimize on that and pick up only what's needed

>>4882395
I see, I might check it out.
What route do you follow?
I do

>enter police station without picking up any card and input the code directly
>gas station
>power station -> electrify grate
>pharmacy
>jump out the window of the cable car
>use the cord on Nemesis
>Jump off the bridge

and at the end: Negotiate with Nicholai and Ingore and Evacuate to save time, but in normal play I wreck their asses.

For weapons:
>a bit of handgun until I get the shotgun
>shotgun for the few zombies which are harder to dodge throughout the game
>Gas grenades on Nemesis at the clock tower fight
>Acid grenades and Magnum on the worm fight
>Gas grenades and Magnum on the Nemesis fight in waste procession room
>Magnum on final fight while I try to lure him into the trajectory of the missile

>I like the original Resident Evil for its difficulty.

Yes. One thing to know about is that difficulty may vary depending not only on region but also on version. In some versions zombies take more hits and deal more dmg as well than in others, but there is no proper documentation as to how each version is since it's quite a mess.

For instance I think that the PC version uses the easier Jap difficulty in all versions; unlike the original Saturn/PS1 releases which are harder.

>That said, an overlooked feature of the original Resident Evil is how dynamic the story is. It's just little things and mainly only in Jill's game, but you can meet Barry in lots of different places, getting different dialogue or skipping bosses. REmake kept this, but only partially.

Yes, it's a very overlooked feature which was also rather influential. It seems plenty of games were inspired by it or even used a very similar system, even non survival horror games.

Well good job, here is my attempt just now.
I used PC Sourcenext version in US Hard mode.

I used to perform much better, been a while since I did this so I waste a lot of time picking up un-needed supplies and since I was playing in Jap I made the wrong choice at the cable car and used the brakes, hence wasting time as well.

I'll try again some other time, this time in English.

Overall she was a cool mom that let me play and bought me tons of games though, so I can't complain, until teenagehood when I had to become ressourceful to buy my own games
