There were supposed to be more, but Gameboy Color development internally at Nintendo ended quickly because the GBC was more of a stop-gap until the Gameboy Advance was ready. Metroid II had a DX version in development but was canned to focus on Fusion on the GBA.

While ports made by Japanese developers were generally pretty good about adapting games to work around the limitations of the hardware and the DMG screen, the Gameboy really shines with original games developed for the system instead of just being a miniaturized port machine. The Game Gear suffers in modern day because too many of the titles on it were just downports of Genesis or Master System games, and now generally anyone would much rather play those games on their home systems. But with Gameboy, Nintendo and Japanese third parties were smart to make unique titles for the handheld, it's given the library a much longer shelf life than it's contemporary competitors. I think the only similar handheld that got it right was the Neo Geo Pocket Color, but that was more a victim of timing than anything else.

So you're not willing to carry three separate devices, but you're willing to carry a bunch of different games for different consoles?
If you're on the go, and you want to play games for multiple handhelds, you should just use an android device instead of carrying around a bunch of carts.
If you're at home, then use your carts.
And you're a faggot if you're playing a handheld in public anyway.

Because together with RTSs, this is one genre that I absolutely suck at.
