Yes, it's total kino.
Gameplay-wise it's not really great, but in terms of graphics, presentation, etc, they nailed it. Surprised they weren't able to do it again in more powerful consoles, the PS2 game has kinda weak 3D models of the Evas and angels compared to this.

Neon Genesis Evangelion on N64

Eva games worth playing are Neon Genesis Evangelion on N64 (probably the most faithful "Eva: the video game" to this day) and the classic Iron Maiden/Girlfriend of Steel.
I still haven't played the Saturn RPGs, but I think they're not very good. I've seen the FMVs of the first one and they're QUALITY-tier, so at least it should be fun to get some laughs from it. The 2nd game might be interesting plot-wise, similar to Girlfriend of Steel, but different outcome the new girls is actually an angel, but that game, and that girl, Mayumi, were never as popular as GoS and Mana, probably because it's not as polished (GoS was done in-house by Gainax, it had Princess Maker guys involved, and actual Eva TV staff doing the art).
The "Digital Card Collection" for Saturn is pretty interesting in its own way, it's barely a game, but it does have a bunch of mini-games, some better than others, none of them terribly good, but decent enough. You go playing these mini-games and unlocking "digital cards", so it's like collecting trading cards, and you start filling up a virtual card folder. Each card plays a short clip from the series, so I can imagine this was pretty interesting back in 1997, when digital videos were still new and novel. The best thing in this game is a series of 4koma strips that AFAIK were exclusively done for this game and can't be found anywhere else, most of them pretty great and funny.
Other than that, you got Super Robot Wars F and F Final, which were the first SRW entries to feature Eva units.
SRW Alpha also has the Evas.

I remember watching videos of Eva 64 from magazine CD-ROMs back in 1999 and it blew my mind. When I finally played it many years later it kept blowing my mind, it looks great.

Is there any information about the development of NGE on N64?
Any scans of the japanese guide book, or magazines?

I'll go with Neon Genesis Evangelion for most impressive 3D graphics.

If you've already watched Evangelion, you already know what they're saying.
Evangelion 64 follows the actual series very closely, all the dialogues are the same.

Not event he manga is really canon to the original series, but no, I don't think so, they're all their own thing.
Girlfriend of Steel takes place during the "action arc" (eps 8-14), and there isn't anything that contradicts the canon there, it could fit as a sort of TV special episode or something like that.
The Sega Saturn games are all non-canon, as they feature new angels and scenarios that directly contradict the series.
Evangelion 64 is mostly a 1:1 recreation of the series and movies, but the ending takes a 180 turn Shinji actually mans up and fights the Eva series

I know, it looks even better on CRT at the original resolution, but emulator screenshots are still good to show the 3D models, just not good for texture appreciation since it stretches them.

Although not every mission on the game is the same, most of them are 1 vs 1 battles.

Best-looking 5th gen game.
