Both of these facts are ultimately because of Rare. The first being delayed a year because Shiggy himself said B&K was better from a technical aspect that he would have been embarrassed to release it at the time. The second was admitted by Nintendo's marketing department, even preferring Rare's ventures into 3d to be more influential than starfox.

The Shigeru Miyamoto Donkey Kong Country quote is something that has been passed around for ages, but I have never actually seen a source for it. I also recall Miyamoto himself saying in 2010 that he never said that because he worked closely with the production of DKC and wouldn't have talked trash on a colleague.

So where the hell does this quote even come from?
