For the first, the term "rail shooter" may be useful in searching for it. By "seen from the back of the ship" do you mean that it was third-person?

For the second, this may or may not help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video_games_with_textual_graphics

I vaguely remember mountain climbing happening in the cutscenes of Number Munchers. When were you in elementary? Was it monochrome or color? DOS, Windows or something else?

There's that one game from my childhood.
You were a kid in a land full of characters from various fairy tales. It was basically an adventure game for five years old kids, the goal was to find items scattered around the game world and to bring them back to whoever they belonged, and every time you brought one back you'd get a short musical number.
It wasn't a very good game, but I loved it as a kid.

Oh, and it was for the PC. Forgot about that.

Do the DVD box sets have full Japanese audio and English subs? I want to buy the DVDs but I don't want to hear that godawful English announcer who can't even pronounce their names.

Hey guys, how's it going?

just saw the korean ep last night. those are the best kind of episodes, where he just walks around and talks to people.

Yep. Japanese Audio and eng subs are an option on all episodes. (and necessary on the last few Kotakshit didn't get their dirty hands on)

I heard the Retro Game Master DVDs only contained Arino no Chousenjou and none of the Tamage or other segments. Is this true?

Also the english subs are proper ones, not the shit Kotak put out.

Yeah, due to copyright stuff.

That bites. I think I prefer the segments and specials to the actual challenges, too.

They don't contain Tamages, that's true.
Nor do the Japanese DVDs.
It's a huge copyright mess trying to get all those arcades and games and all onto a DVD.
I don't recall if they cut the other segments, they might have?

Either way, SAGCCX released the segments for those episodes as standalones. (personally I just keep a copy of the original sub on top of the DVD)

I like them, but not THAT much. Still, the show definitely needs them, since you get to see Arino and friends just palling around and having fun.

Most likely Destruction Derby series. I only played 2 but it would have a giant checked flag come down.

I actually met Arino once and had a conversation with him.

>I live in Tachikawa
>They announced that they were going to do a public showing, they have these every few months or so
>I decide to go, it couldn't hurt and I've always wanted to meet the guy
>I wait in a line that was already pretty big, it's going into a game/book store that's a bit bigger than most
>I wait for about 2 hours before I see Arino walking into the store, I'm about 30 people from getting into the store, and that's not counting the people in the actually inside the place
>The line's moving sort of fast, it takes about 5-10 minutes for me to get in
>At last, I'm indoors, it's nice and cold outside, so this is a nice change of pace
>I can see Arino and the previous AD sitting down with Kibe and some other guy, signing and accepting gifts
>I'm stared at by Kibe, apparently it's uncommon for a white guy to be at these events, so I don't really pay it any mind
>I got up to have them sign a copy of the American release of Game Center CX on the DS
>I go up to Arino and he's a bit shocked
>"Whoa, cool! I've never seen an American show up to one of these things!"
>He starts asking me all kinds of things, which I like most about Japan and if I like it more here
>While signing stuff, I'm just standing right next to him, answering his questions, trying not to lose my shit over the fact I'm talking next to one of the funniest comedians and game player in Japan
>He then asks me about the American audience, he says "What do they think about me? Am I good enough to actually be watched there?"
>I'm confused, that question practically came out of nowhere
>"I want all kinds of people to see me play games, not to get me fame, but because people who enjoy video games should watch me so they won't be as bad"
>He gives a hearty laugh, I laugh along with him
>I leave, but before I do, he says to me "Come by the CX center when we're looking for new ADs, you might have a chance,. BYE!"

Arino's the best, man.
