IMPERIAL GUARD AND X-COM

BROTHERS IN ARMS AGAINST THE FUKKKKKIN XEEEEEEENOOOOOOOOOOOS

>> No.9963980

At first I was gonna rage at the apparent Guardman hijack, but then I realized both X-Com and the Guard:

1. Are frail, easily killed and mostly out-gunned.
2. Compensate for the above through steel balls and liberal application of HIGH EXPLOSIVES EVERYWHERE.
3. Tonks are used to facilitate #2.

The only difference is that X-COM eventually becomes as spess muhreenz- power armor, hideously powerful handheld weapons, and they can even deep-strike (CYDONIA LULZ.)

Actually, you could probably do a very passable 40k/DH game using the x-com premise...

How about:
Isolated mechanicus forge world under attack by <more advanced alien force of your choice> creates x-com like force to deal with invasions, develops borderline heretical xeno-tech to compensate for lack of manpower/inferior technology.

Tadaaa. X-com.

True. And that would make the acolytes choose between using the xenos tech and protecting the world, or condemning the priests and their hybrid tech thus allowing the world to fall and endangering their own lives.

>Relative good damage, high fire rate and no ammo, really made those things the best weapons in the game, until the green suited buggers appeared, but even they go down with enough well placed bursts.

By the time you get to plasma, your soldiers should have somewhat decent accuracy, and since heavy plasmas have a 31 round magazine... you almost never need to reload. And since the XENOOOOS switch to heavy plasma after a few months, you can almost always loot moar ammo from the dead if you must.

They are heavier, though, and the magazines take up twice the space in the skyranger then the lasers would. If you really wanna max out the insane troop capacity of an Avenger, then arming half the squad with laser rifles and the other half with heavy plasma is a good way to go about it- hell; the guys with lasers can swap for heavy plasma off the dead if they really want.

Laser pistols, though, never become obsolete. The fact that they require no ammo (and thus less space on the skyranger,) their low TU cost, their light weight, and general handiness in close quarters, means that they are always and forever the perfect sidearm for psi/blaster bomb troops.

Put a laser pistol in the off-hand of a blaster bomb guy, make sure it's his active weapon (by opening and closing the laspistol fire menu) and he'll take snap-shots with that, instead of his fucking blaster launcher.

>The joke is that TU's to fire go off of a percentage of your TU's total.

You're penalized TU's before your turn starts for being over-encumbered. The % of TU's required to fire is calculated from your total possible TUs, it doesn't adjust for the ones you've been docked.

There's a Windows executable version of X-Com, (the "Gold" edition,) and it has it's own xcomutil-style mod, which is, IMO, better then xcomutil itself, and xcomutil is pretty damn good already. This will give you the step-by-step in how to set it up:

Oh, no stat-strings needed, because it shows you stats AND weight limits right there in the equip screen. However, the config file they give you is a pre-made one by some grognards, you'll want to go in and alter options yourself. I strongly suggest restoring High Explosive to 200 damage, like it is in xcomutil.

I don't know why I'm helping you, you've done nothing but irritate me. But x-com is worth it, and internet butthurt is never worth it, so...

Oh, it also fixes the elerium-fueled craft bug, (where they'd return to base at 50% no matter what the distance,) gives you the option to launch intercept without having to wait for them to FULLY re-arm and re-fuel, fixes the radar-stacking bug (so building more then one large and small radar actually adds to your detection, like it should,) the paying-for-dirt bug (where you'd pay upkeep on demolished base modules forever,) and a bunch of other shit xcomutil doesn't do.

The only downside is that UFO Gold is much more unstable then DOSbox; it's going to crash sometimes, whereas DOSbox almost never does.

If you're firing from over 10 squares away, you're doing it wrong and will miss with every weapon ever.
