Wilt Leaf Liege, Spirit of the Labyrinth, and Sanctum Prelate have been wonderful for me in legacy recently. These cards are silver bullets and I would never leave home without them. Give them a playtest fellow taxes players.

I've also been messing around with the new broken card opposition agent. It fits right into taxes and w/b taxes is already one of the good versions even before her. Makes ghost quarter and field of ruin insane and plays well with vial. And the legacy version doesn't run arbiter anyway and she can just take the 2 or so slots away from mindcensor. A perfect fit.

If the order was insured it's MCM who fully refund you, and they are very honest about it, they always give you the money very fast and don't try to bullshit you. Sometimes i didn't even had to provide proof, the team simply trusted me. This truly is the best company i've ever dealt with.
If uninsured, i refuse full refund but ask to share the loss at 50/50. But even if the seller refuse i still leave a positive feedback.

In yugioh i can buy 3 precons for 6€ each, mash them together and obtain a playable, competitive and functional deck that sure won't win me the worlds but sure can take the local tournament, comes packed with foils that don't curl and has nice artworks on it because they don't F.I.R.E. artists for wrongthink.

In magic i spend 35€ (if i buy online, because at my local scalping synagogue i pay way more) and i get an intentionally underpowered deck that's barely functional and can't perform outiside of a battlebox and eventually rotates out in 6 months.
Oh and they don't even come with a dice anymore.
I fully expect wizards to introduce in the near future a sheet with an artwork of captain beckett brass giving us the middle finger, drawn by jason rainville with written on it "fuck you virgins i'm glad you're poor and suffer give us all your money and be thankful for that."

We have lived with this shit for long enough to not even blink at even fucking standard decks costing the price of a high-mid tier PC. I literally don't get how people get into mtg nowadays. I have 20 years of cards lying around (less now that I am selling out) and still had to buy a fuckton of singles to make a cube.

It has gotten beyond ridiculous. Remember when your girlfriend/friends/parents asked you why you spend so much money on cards and you replied this is just your hobby? If you get some distance between yourself and mtg, the full extent of the clownshow becomes apparent rather quickly, and it is frightening.

Do you have a cube? What's the main theme? Is it combo heavy? Maybe it's combat sentric?
How do you manage walkers? (I hope you don't run them at all btw). How do you manage creatures?

I made a cube full of cards from Mirrodin to Theros because the border is kino. The cards in it are cool designs with great artwork, and all were chosen because they can interact with each other well rather than power level.

I keep it at my LGS and it's free for people to use at any time. In a year it's been used once. People would rather draft the latest set than pay entry into a cool cube draft.

i have a 450 card Multicoloured cube, i can't remember the contents fully as it's been a little since i played (some 3 months now)

But it was 180 multicoloured cards, 120 two colour, 60 three colour. a few lands, artifacts and some mono colour cards to fill the rest out.

Last i played it some shards/wedges were pretty shit to play so i was thinking how to refine it and make all the tri's playable.

it's got some walkers, but they're all walkers I think are 'fair', i have tons of removal and ways to hate on them though.

It's mana centric, getting good fixing and not getting greedy with your pips are key to the cube. it's all about good building. that said; i have combat tricks and combos hidden in it.

I really want to do a colourless one next, pack it full of things like soldier replica. The desert cube following thatCube is love, is life.

I own two cubes and I'm working on a third. One is a modular eight man cube. The modular cube has a 110 card core and then eight "packages" of fifty cards each. You pick three packages each time you play for a different experience. The second cube is a 4-man cube for those nights when you just can't get eight. It's drafted in 5 9-card packs. I just sleeve them all in the same sleeves so that they can share a land box (pic related). All the cards except the basic lands are proxies so the entire thing has cost me about $200 to put together (mainly sleeves).

I have two cubes. One is more of a fun nonsense 8-person (((power))) cube loosely based on the mystery booster structure, the other is a 8-person GoR singleton block cube which is designed to immitate an all star draft from the block. The structure allows for perfect booster structure immitation (3 uncos, 1 rare per booster) without mythics, and can be shifted to 5 uncos 1 rare per booster if we only get 5 players. It's a lot of fun because my modern playgroup includes a lot of new players who started drafts in the latest Rav block, and we have fond memories of those times.
The "low power cube but it's the FIRE era so even commons & uncos are allowed to be great" works wonder.

I assume the LGS make people pay a fee to pay on their table and use the cube which anon left here. The fee might be low if it's just the table and I assume anon just means he is not profiting from it.
As for why people don't use it I would assume that's because most people coming at an LGS are casual players who don't even know about a cube and prefer to get some cards.
Whereas experienced players who might be into cube will probably only go for tournaments and buy they cards online. When they come in they know what they want so they are less likely to ask the shop owner what are their playing options.

It's obviously oversimplified. But here it's more the comparison of a popular movement with support via donation, good press, etc to the evil guys who defend their shop who are in fact just protecting their livelihood and are caught powerless in a fight that is way above them and which their might or might not support. People who will destroy the shop might not even related or care about the movement but they will be cheered and protected by people in position of power in comparison to the "innocent" shop owner.

My experience with thief of sanity in standard was that it was a removal magnet that almost never got to connect and was really just to increase the threat count in control mirrors. Just drop it or find a slot in the sideboard for it and go for the full 4 borrowers.
I get the theme is UB thieves but silumgar is a bit underpowered and doom whisperer is just huge and closes the game real quick which is what you want from your big 5 drops. I would cut the gontis too, go 3 HT 2 DW.
All imo though, I have zero experience with Pioneer but I played a very similar list in standard.

6€x3 might not win me the game but at least i can fucking play, in mtg you get jank for 35€ that costs the same of a 10€ product to wotc to make and all you get is jank.
They even got rid of the spindown dice to save money, as if thinning the cardboard of cards wasn't enough.
But wasting 2/5 of the product's production cost on a flashy box that will go in the garbage bin is fine.
There are dual lands that are like 6€ each (which means nobody fucking plays them) that could perfectly be reprinted in coomander decks but all we get are 1 cents guildgates (which cost the same to print).
Also when they reprinted the 80€ ass blastem in a precon deck the price dropped to 7€ and you still can buy that precon for msrp, if it was a magic product that deck would have reached 75€ easily.
Imagine reprinting jace in a challenger deck and selling it for 15€ (no, not jace beleren :^) ).
At least in yugioh i can wait a few months and even if the deck is not competitive anymore (fuck power creep) i can still play it with my friends, in magic, even if you want to play premodern or kitchen table older standards you get fucked because cards are safely locked in some rich dude's warehouse.
If yugioh wasn't garbage from a gameplay perspective i would be playing it instead of magic (which we will eventually get there since they are pushing powercreep bullshit like every card banned in the last 2 years and companions which are a sick way to fuse xyzs and commanders in a single travesty).

I get that the cards are cheaper but if your deck become garbage after each extension then it's not really better since you have to keep buying new products.
As much as I hate JOTC the new cards are rarely being super expensive. Omnath is only like 10€ of course there is some exception like Uro but in most decks the bulk of the cost is the manabase and a playset of one or two cards. I wish they would reprint the fetch.

Sorry, misspoke, the core is 210 cards. The eight packages are each balanced by color and yes, each package has a theme.
>Fundamentals
Just a collection of really really good cards in each color. Modern-level cards for the most part.
>Power
Power 9, etc. All vintage-tier mega hits (plus new cards that fit that profile). This one gets specifically included or excluded the most as it really warps how the cube plays.
>Allies
This focuses on allied color themes and cards that play nice together.
>Enemies
Focus on enemy color themes and cards that hate out other types of cards.
>Old
Very old cards that have generally not been reprinted. All of them are very good but none of them are on the level of power.
>Copycat
A set with very few unique cards. Everything comes in multiple copies. Many of the cards care about how many copies are around while others just want you to pick as many as you can.
>(New) Faces
"""New""" (when I built the cube in 2017) cards. I really need to update it but there's honestly not much new stuff I'd put in the cube since the last few years have been a raging dumpster fire.
>Fat
Lots of big fatties and things to slow down the game so it lasts until people can play them. Timmy paradise.

I tried finding a good way to export the list but the only card listings are contained in the MSE files I used to make the cards (so that everything has proper oracle text plus any art alters I felt were fun) and then I have an excel file to handle the balancing. The key thing I would say is to just make sure the core set has everything you will need no matter what games of magic you play. It's the READ in BREAD, well, except this is a cube so you don't need the D at all. Just add more REA. Balance it for colors like it was its own cube. Then, for each of the themed packages, simply maintain that balance within the package. If I had to do it all over again I'd probably go with 60 card packages instead of 50, so that I could have roughly 10 cards of each color plus ten artifacts and lands and what not.

Yup. In my opinion, WOTC is doing everybody a favor by destroying the game sooner rather than later.

Maybe once it was a classy casino, and now it's a washed-out dump that only wants high-rollers. But it was always a casino. It was never your friend, and only ever saw you as a whale, and as somebody to exploit.

And even if your playing cube, or draft, or make proxy cards-The game still is just flawed on many basic design elements (mana screw, random bad matchups, not really thought out design). I don't think the game is worth the effort to fix, when you can just grab games built well from the ground up.

Games like 'Sorcery: The Convergence' already exist. If your playing cube, why not just grab some of those games that are built from the ground up to be like that? Since cube already requires a reliable set of people willing to play with you.

it was a bad move for the game balance since having a perfect mana source curve means you don't need to worry about backup plans for when you get stuck on two lands, because you'll never get stuck on two lands. and lack of backup plans means primary plans aren't as diluted, thus they get stronger, too strong to control, like Dredge in the first match.

I quit the game 8 years ago. And my point isn't about how 'I should always get to play my big fuck you stuff all the time!', its that no matter how well you structure your deck, you can just end up in a situation where all your lands and cheap stuff is at the bottom and expensive stuff is at the top.

My point is I play a game with a differently structured resource mechanic instead of a largely random chance.
Magic as it stands would not (and from what I hear) has not benefited.

>no matter how well you structure your deck, you can just end up in a situation where all your lands and cheap stuff is at the bottom and expensive stuff is at the top
Just no. If you arrived at that situation, it was entirely your fault, and you blamed it on luck rather than you.
First off, deckbuilding pays a huge part of ensuring that you'll draw stuff when you need it. Assuming you know how to deckbuild, the odds of you pulling multiple high-curve cards for your deck in a row when you don't need them are already slim
Second, this is what the mulligan is for. If you're not a dogshit player, you should be able to know what you can expect from your opener and subsequent draws and there is so much documentation on those that it falls squarely on you for ignoring it
Finally, Magic doesn't play "around" the land system, but rather alongside it. The myriad of trade-offs you can make in relation to ensuring you get what you need (draw, card selection, tutors, ramp, charm-like cards, utility lands, land/spell ratio, etc...) VS taking risks to take your opponent unprepared is what makes magic such a great game.
I'm not saying that luck doesn't matter at all in MtG, but the control of the odds for your deck are yours alone. When a pro and an newbie get a lucky draw, the newbie will thank chance, while the pro likely already had an idea of what he could play and what his options were before he drew

'Low' Probability of an event occurring is not 'no' probability of an event occurring. But whatever, I just see it as a bad design element if the focus is on skilled gameplay.

And the odds of just drawing into a poor opener wasn't made me quit. It was the realization that I would never really get to play whichever deck I wanted to play because some new shiny toy would demand I play it. And with that like the end of 'Labyrinth' the 'allure' of powerful cards or more stuff to buy lost all power over me.

Years later I wanted to try out playing a deck with proxies (and chinastuff) but looked at the list of new releases and realized that so many of them were just 'X stuff that was expensive and you wanted before but +1 effect and -1 cost'.
So even with the opportunity to play the most busted decks ever for 'free' lost all interest to me.

Just take a look at that guy that wanted to replace doom whisperer in the silumgar slot to have a huge beater and a finisher on curve that gives you more than what you pay.
There are cards so pushed, so much ramp, so much mana fixing getting pushed more and more with each set that if you seriously complain about "mana screw" you're literally and unironically a timmy babby that cries when his craw wurm gets countered.

Wotc if you're reading: no, i'm not saying that you have to turn this game into yugioh, assuming your crap game designers know what makes yugioh a bad game.
Keep printing more je ne sais quoi cards, so you can kill this game even quicker.
And reprint fetchlands in $4 booster packs.

>mechanic sees no eternal format play thankfully due to how parasitic it is

Imagine if Energy got the FIRE treatment.

What if there was a walker that had a -7 that gives you an enblem that both makes your mana pool not empty at all and allows you to spend mana as if it was any color? It would be real crazy if that walker was costed at 2BG and had a +1 that taps or untaps a land, and even crazier if that walker was a strong black woman.
It really would be a giant, stupid coincidence if such a walker was printed in the upcoming D&D set, it would almost make you suspect a wizards employee who wants that card for his ramp EDH deck of sneaking it in there and nobody really caring to stop him.
Thankfully that would never happen, nobody would let such a walker ever be printed as it would ruin all formats forever and violate the "no bans before sales target is reached" policy a certain company that is rather unlikely to be referred to as JotC by people on the internet could potentially, hypothetically have instated. Not that such a company actually exists, i'm just spitballing stupid ideas here and would also like to make it clear that the mentioned card is nothing that exists for certain, as i just recently got that idea on my own absolutely independent from people working at companies that produce card games.

I uhh don't know what to say besides that I'm glad WotC is currently not allowing in-store play so that I literally cannot go to FNM and experience the current state of FIRE.

See, unless it starts at like 6 or 7 i don't see how that'll be an issue in any constructed format besides >commander

I assure you that it is custom card autism, WotC is a professional company after all, they would never print a card that violates the spirit of the game this blatantly. Again, i absolutely do not work at a company involved in the production of card games and came up with the walker, which i think would go really well with a starting loyalty of four, completely on my own. Seeing how such a walker would warp the game around itself, i think the set it is in should contain two very cheap proliferate cards printed at rare so people don't have it removed before they get to have fun with it.

I mean, unless the walker can ult easily I don't see how that's a problem, even if I hate walkers that untap lands
I would have probably be concerned a year ago, but my standards for Wotc fucking up have been upped with every single mistake, and I stopped counting after 50 this year

I have 3 cubes. First is fuckhuge and has cards from everywhere, but no planeswalker because I decided the only counters would be +1/+1 counters which meant loyalty counters were a big no-no in it.

Second cube is mostly cards with drawbacks and banding creatures because it's hard to find drawback cards in white. It is incredibly challenging to draft and is also fuckhuge. I think the only planeswalker in it is Tibalt from Avacyn Restored. Decks built with it are often dysfunctional and kill themselves almost as fast as they kill the opponent.

After than I made a cube meeant to simualte magic when I was in high school, mostly cards from kamigawa, ravnica, and time spiral block. It's a lot of fun.

Then I made one all about Energy from Kaladesh block, which is also fun because I kept energy but left out all the dumb shit like Saheeli and that infinte cat. And no Eldrazis or gearhulks either, you;re going to use Aetheraquall ancient and like it! It is a cube with few immediate threats and lots of removal, so games are a bit slow.

Shit I meant to say 4 cubes. My finger slipped. Sorry
