Is there anything more cucked than being a Tyranid player? You spend hours clipping, trimming assembling and painting your 200 models just for a marine, Guard or Tau player’s pleasure. You spend all that time online looking up meme builds just so you will live past turn two. When you win you declare it’s because you’re some hardcore Napoleon with matchless skill but when you lose it’s always your codex’s fault. The only people who genuinely enjoy having Tyranids are literal females, everybody else is a masochist with a Robin Cruddace voodoo doll they scream and cry at after going home from their weekly tabling session.

>Are IG Psykers ever used in some sort of a commanding capacity? Do they have military ranks? Can they give orders to privates?
no

>Or are they never given any sort of autonomy because they're one demonic possession away from a BLAM?
That, and they're an auxiliary branch of a different organization. Sanctioned Psykers are assigned to regiments, not a part of them.

> In fact, can a Commissar BLAM just about anybody due to him being somewhat beyond the chain of command?
His main purview is the regiment he's been assigned to. More specifically the officers in charge, since a commissar's primary function is to ensure righteous leadership. That's why in older editions commissars were very specifically attached to command squads, and executed the commander in charge (and took over command) if said commander broke and ran.

>Could a Commissar shoot an Inquisitor, high commanding officer, or an Astartes going full Isador Akios in front of his eyes?
he probably could, but whether or not he gets in shit for it depends on the situation. There's no one right answer.

>> No.73804946

>>73804870

>Could a Commissar shoot an Inquisitor, high commanding officer, or an Astartes going full Isador Akios in front of his eyes?
They could execute an officer, yes. Others fall outside the guard organisation, so a commisar wouldn't have the authority to put them down.

Most primaris psykers fill an advisor role and would not give orders directly.

>> No.73804957

>>73804870
>Are IG Psykers ever used in some sort of a commanding capacity?

No. There are no "IG Psykers"; all psykers serving with the Guard are trained and handled by other organisations and only attached as auxiliaries. They might act as advisors to a regiment's commanding officers, but they have no military rank or privileges in of themselves, and in all likelihood no knowledge of how to lead and command men in combat either.

That's different. The Inquisition has the authority to conscript any Imperial citizen they require into their service, regardless of which political body they would otherwise normally serve. Librarians don't normally have command ranks to my knowledge - they are ranks of seniority within the Librarius, but in most Chapters leadership still falls to the Captains and Lieutenants.

Yeah, librarians are more integrated into the chapters themselves. Though a point to keep in mind is they don't have "ranks" in the chapter (sergeant, lieutenant, captain, etc), but their own ranks in the librarius itself (lexicanum, codicier, epistolary). Even they are somewhat segregated.

However, detatchments seconded to the Inquisition usually end up being pruned into an elite force used at the Inquisitors will, sometimes with extensive mental and physical conditioning (see: detatchment D-99 from Anphelion Incident).

I’ve finally decided to do it anyway since my desire for sci-fi soul golems isn’t going away, and aside from the point changes raising my army plan to 3,000 points it looks like wraiths will be in a good place. Wraithlords can use all their guns in melee now, wraithblades are less likely to have to worry about overwatch, and even with the changes to overwatch I’m pretty sure 10 d-scythes in my frontline will be enough to fuck over anyone ballsy enough to run a melee army

Welcome to 40k, where there is no canon! Depends a lot on who the Guard are and what's going on (backwater peasant militia vs a Kasrkin strike force), but I imagine an Inquisitorial detatchment would be fine. The worry is a corrupted individual spreading sedition to the rest of the regiment, but in an Inquisitors personal hit squad the mix of mental conditioning and direct oversight would probably curtail the risk. standard chaos terminators are good because they're cheap compared to their loyalist equivalents, combi bolter + chainaxe is 26 points per model so its only 6 points more than a primaris marine for something with a better gun than an autobolter primaris marine, the same number of attacks, better AP and strength values, a better saving throw, an invulnerable save and access to strats like the world eaters red butchers strat for free fight twice, they're a unit that can crunch infantry at melee and range and are affordable for what you get, they lack focus so they're not comp tier but they're still pretty good.

scarab occult terminators are more shooty variants and blightlords are more durable variants, when world eaters get their codex the released red butchers are gonna be super choppy terminators and slaaneshi noise marine terminators are gonna all carry blastmasters and be tank hunting ranged terminators.

its good to be chaos.

Simply new Cadians but make the kits with the intention of releasing conversion kits for other regements. Like what they did with Brood Brothers but intentional from the start rather than something tacked on later.

For example

>Cadian kit is standard.
>The Catachan kit comes with new bandana/hat/helmetless heads, a mix of shortsleeve & sleeveless arms, knives and other survival gear to attach and some jungle bits to put on bases.
>Steel Legion comes with gasmask heads, longer coat legs, extra equipment you'd see on them etc.

All conversion kits would give enough to convert 10 full guardsmen+3 heavy weapon teams and have some extras for tanks and other vehicles.

It wouldn't be perfect, you couldn't get the exact look for say Vostroyans with just heads+arms or legs replacements but you'd be able to get a few different regiments doing this rather than just one and it would keep the more likely scenario of "just make all guardsmen generic" at bay.

As a tyranid player.... you're not wrong. It is thoroughly unenjoyable to play Tyranids. Every edition for the past 10 years we have held on the the slimmest hope that we wouldn't be a garbage faction.

I wish they'd just get it over with and squat them instead of leading people on. Then, squad the rest of xenos. Then Guard. Then sisters.

Indeed, most non marine factions are there just to be NPCs, if not all of them.

One caveat though: I'm not sure cucked is the right term. Nid players know we're being screwed. I'd argue that it is far more fitting for marines: they were tricked into buying their own army again and were brainwashed into thinking it was a great deal. Lol.

I PREVIEWED THEIR FLY RULES A LITTLE BIT DURING A PREVIOUS LESSON ON AN ANON'S REQUEST BUT TODAY WE GET THE FULL PICTURE. HERE WE GO.

AS YOU CAN SEE, THE STATS, APART FROM MOVE, WERE NOTHING SPECIAL. THEY WERE IN FACT WHAT A TERMAGANT HAS TODAY, EXCEPT THIS MADE SENSE FOR GARGOYLES TO HAVE WORSE STATS BECAUSE YOU NEED SOMETHING TO OFFSET THE ADVANTAGE OF FLYING, AND NO, IT CANNOT JUST BE COSTING MORE POINTS.

THIS IS A GRIPE I HAVE WITH GW'S MODERN "BALANCE" QUITE OFTEN. YOU REMEMBER BIKER MARINES IN 7TH EDITION? THERE WAS NEVER ANY REASON NOT TO PUT EVERYTHING YOU POSSIBLY COULD ON A BIKE. BONUS TOUGHNESS, MOBILITY, AND TWICE THE FIREPOWER, ALL FOR SOME MORE POINTS. THERE IS NO WAY TO BALANCE THAT MANY RAW STAT INCREASES LIKE THAT - MOBILITY, DEFENSE, AND OFFENSE, TIED TOGETHER TO ONE UPGRADE - WITH ONLY POINTS, YOU NEED THERE TO BE SOME TRADE-OFF IN CAPABILITIES TOO. WHAT DO I MEAN BY THIS? WELL, IS A LASCANNON A BETTER WEAPON THAN A LASGUN? NO, NOT AGAINST CHEAP INFANTRY, BECAUSE IT'S FAR, FAR MORE EXPENSIVE FOR THE SAME NUMBER OF SHOTS, AND THE SHOT BEING BETTER DOESN'T REALLY MATTER AGAINST A GROT. IS A SPACE MARINE BIKE BETTER THAN A TACTICAL MARINE? YES BECAUSE DESPITE COSTING MORE POINTS IT GETS MORE SHOTS, NOT JUST A BETTER SHOT THAT COULD BE WASTED AGAINST CHEAP CHAFF, AND IT ALSO COMES WITH A BONUS TO THE OTHER TWO IMPORTANT TRAITS OF SURVIVABILITY AND SPEED.

IF YOU HAVE AN UPGRADE THAT SCALES SOMETHING UP IN SO AS TO BE DESIRABLE IN EVERY SITUATION, IT NEEDS A DRAWBACK, OR YOU MIGHT AS WELL JUST DELETE THE UNUPGRADED VERSION. CASE IN POINT, FLYING HIVE TYRANTS. WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A WALKING HIVE TYRANT ON THE TABLE THAT WASN'T THE VOMIT-INDUCING SWARMLORD? THERE'S NO REASON TO TAKE ONE. FOR A FEW MORE POINTS YOU HAVE A MUCH FASTER TYRANT THAT GAINS THE OTHER BENEFITS OF FLY. IT'S A FORCE MULTIPLIER. YOU CAN'T REALLY OFFSET THAT WITH POINT COST ALONE WITHOUT HAVING SOME HUGE UNBALANCING COST DIFFERENTIAL THAT CAUSES OTHER PROBLEMS.

THE ORIGINAL WHOLE POINT OF THE PROJECT WAS TO ADD ARMIES LIKE THAT WHICH WEREN'T AROUND BACK TO 2E. NOW ITS EVOLVING TO BE MORE LIKE A COMPLETELY NEW EDITION BUT USING A LOT OF 2E CORE MIXED WITH OTHER GAME SYSTEMS, SO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH 2E IS NOT AT ALL A REQUIREMENT.

>>73806750
ALRIGHT WE GOT OFF ON A TANGENT REAL QUICK THERE BUT BACK TO THE GARGOYLE ITSELF. SO IT HAS WORSE WEAPON SKILL AND INITIATIVE THAN TERMAGANTS, BUT FLY RULES (AND A DIFFERENT GUN ACTUALLY, IN THIS EDITION). AND NOTABLY, STILL COSTS MORE POINTS. 16 COMPARED TO 6, OR 8 POINTS COMPARED TO 3 AS IT SHOULD BE TODAY.

THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT. THIS IS EXPLAINING A BALANCE CONCEPT, MAINLY TO BITCH ABOUT FLYING HIVE TYRANTS AND THEIR OVERPREVALENCE TODAY. WINGS NEED TO COME WITH MORE OF A DRAWBACK THAN JUST COSTING A FEW MORE POINTS, OR THE PLAYER WILL ALWAYS TAKE THE WINGED SHIT OVER THE WALKING SHIT. IN 2E, GARGOYLES DID THIS RIGHT COMPARED TO TERMAGANTS, AND ESPECIALLY TO HORMAGAUNTS WHO WERE ABOUT AS FAST BUT MUCH BETTER IN MELEE. IN LATER EDITIONS YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW OFTEN I WOULD HEAR LIST BUILDING ADVICE OF 'JUST DELETE ALL OF X UNIT AND TAKE GARGOYLES, THEY'RE SO MUCH BETTER FOR LIKE 2 MORE POINTS', BECAUSE GW DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO BALANCE MOBILITY.

OKAY I SORT OF RAMBLED THROUGH THAT EXPLANATION AND I'M NOT SURE I FULLY GOT MY POINT ACROSS AS CLEARLY AS I USUALLY LIKE TO, BUT IT'S A COMPLICATED ONE. SUFFICE TO SAY, I LIKE THAT GARGOYLES USED TO BE WORSE THAN TERMAGANTS IN SOME WAYS, BESIDES RAW POINTS COSTS. THESE DAYS THE ONLY THING TERMAGANTS REALLY DO BETTER IS BEING A TROOPS CHOICE, BECAUSE THEY LOST THEIR EXTRA WEAPON SKILL AND INITIATIVE AND SOME OF THEIR SPEED.

OR PERHAPS ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT IT - UNITS SHOULD HAVE MORE DISTINCT IDENTITIES THAN "THING X", AND "THING X BUT WITH WINGS/A BIKE". OKAY. I THINK THAT SUMS UP MY FEELINGS BETTER.

NOW SPEAKING OF DISTINCT IDENTITIES LET US LOOK AT THE GARGOYLES WEAPON, THE 2E FLAMESPURT.

THIS FUCKING THING WAS WILD. IT'S A FLAMER WITH -1 STRENGTH, THAT NOTABLY CAN'T SET THINGS ON FIRE. THIS NEEDS TO BE POINTED OUT BECAUSE, YES, IN 2E WHEN RULES HAD SOUL, FLAMERS COULD SET THINGS ON FIRE, AND THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO BURN, AND IT WAS AWESOME. ALSO NOTABLY, FLAMERS HAD -2 AP BACK THEN, BECAUSE DOUSING YOUR ARMOUR IN FLAMING LIQUID MEANS THE WEAKEST PARTS ARE GOING TO GET MELTED THROUGH, IT'S HARD TO PROTECT EVERYTHING FROM AN INFERNO COVERING YOUR BODY. FLAME WEAPONS ARE SO OVERNERFED IN MODERN EDITION IT'S RIDICULOUS, FROM THE D6 RANDOM HITS TO THE WEAK AP.

BUT THE GARGOYLES HAD ONE OF THESE ON EVERY MODEL IN A UNIT OF 6-12. AND IMPORTANTLY, THAT UNIT BEING FLY MADE IT A MOBILE ENOUGH PLATFORM TO ACTUALLY GET THE FUCKING THING IN RANGE TO USE IT. IT MADE SENSE. BECAUSE TYRANIDS SHOULD DESIGN THEIR CREATURES TO MAKE SOME AMOUNT OF SENSE, AT LEAST AS MUCH AS ANYTHING CAN IN 40K.

YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE REALLY FUCKING SILLY THOUGH? IF GW LIKE, BROUGHT BACK THE FLAMESPURT IN A LATER EDITION, BUT STUCK IT ON SOME REALLY IMMOBILE FOOTSLOGGING RETARD UNIT THAT IS EASILY SHOT TRYING TO WADDLE ACROSS THE TABLE. LIKE IMAGINE SOMETHING LIKE THE BIOVORE TRYING TO GET A FLAMER INTO RANGE, HAHA. AND ALSO IF THAT UNIT THEN EXPLODED WHEN IT DIED AND KILLED YOUR OTHER GUYS AROUND IT, WHICH WOULD ACTUALLY BE A COOL RULE FOR A MOBILE FLYING UNIT THAT CAN GET NEXT TO THE ENEMY BEFORE IT EXPLODES BUT WOULD BE REALLY, JUST INCREDIBLY RETARDED ON A FOOTSLOGGING FAT PIECE OF SHIT. NO, NO, GW COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE THAT DUMB. OBVIOUSLY FLAMESPURTS BELONG ON A FLYING CREATURE. OBVIOUSLY.

WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF SETTING THINGS ON FIRE LET ME JUST MAKE QUICK MENTION OF THIS SOULFUL RULE TYRANIDS HAD TO IGNORE THE "RUN AROUND RANDOMLY SCREAMING" PORTION OF WHAT THAT WOULD DO IF THEY WERE IN SYNAPSE. THEY WOULD BURN AND TAKE DAMAGE BUT CONTINUE FIGHTING YOU BECAUSE UNFEELING SWARM OF ALIEN KILLING MACHINES. JUST A BIT MORE SOUL WE'VE LOST OVER THE AGES.

NOW ALL THAT'S REALLY LEFT TO DISCUSS IS FLY. IT WAS GREAT BACK THEN BECAUSE IT ADDED A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF SPEED. NOT JUST A LITTLE FASTER THAN A GROUNDPOUNDER. IT WAS ALMOST TWICE AS FAST AS A RUNNING TYRANID, WHICH WERE ALREADY 50% FASTER THAN NORMAL ARMIES. THIS MADE THEM FEEL GREAT TO USE, AND IF THEY HAD THIS TODAY THEY COULD ACTUALLY KEEP UP WITH THE BIGGER TYRANID FLYERS LIKE HARPIES, NOT JUST FEEL LIKE SLIGHTLY SPED UP TERMAGANTS. THE FLY HIGH AND DROP DOWN INTO CLOSE COMBAT ABILITY, WAS ALSO FUCKING AWESOME. THE GAME COULD REALLY USE MORE STUFF LIKE THAT TODAY. IT ALWAYS BUGS ME THAT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO STAY EXACTLY 9.1" AWAY FROM ANY RANDOM ENEMY SHITTER ON THE BOARD WHEN THEY DROP IN. FEELS GAMEY AND BLAND AND BAD, JUST ALL AROUND. LET FLYING UNITS DROP STRAIGHT INTO COMBAT LIKE THE LORE. LET RAVENERS TUNNEL UP DIRECTLY UNDER THE ENEMIES FEET. DON'T GIVE ME THAT SHIT ABOUT HOW IT'S NOT BALANCED IN AN EDITION WHERE YOU CAN FREELY FALL BACK FROM COMBAT WITHOUT GETTING ATTACKED AND TANKS CAN SHOOT DIRECTLY INTO MELEE AGAIN.

ANYWAYS, I REALLY MISS THESE GARGOYLES. THE CHANGE FROM FLAMESPURT TO BIO-PLASMA, THEN BLINDING VENOM OVER THE EDITIONS, AS JUST A SECONDARY THING TO THEM CARRYING FLESHBORERS LIKE TERMAGANTS, NEVER SAT RIGHT WITH ME. IT DOESN'T FEEL AS UNIQUE. IF THERE'S ONE UNIT I WISH GW WOULD ACTUALLY COMPLETELY REMAKE WITH A DIFFERENT MODEL AND DESIGN, IT'S THIS ONE.

You guys are looking at pyrovores as flamer platforms instead of the superior spore-mines that they are. They exist to harass infantry and blow up when a knight steps on them

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH HOW I FEEL ABOUT PRIMARIS. I'VE ALREADY BEEN HAVING SOME DISCUSSIONS WITH OTHERS IN EMAIL ON HOW TO FIX THEIR LORE TOO. AGAIN, THOUGH, THEY'LL BE ADDED AFTER EVERYTHING ELSE, SPACE MARINES AREN'T EXACTLY LACKING FOR UNITS AND OPTIONS WITHOUT THEM.

ALTERNATIVELY WHAT I MIGHT DO IS SIMPLY MERGE PRIMARIS UNITS WITH EXISTING MARINE UNITS IN SOME WAY, AND RETCON THEIR INTRODUCTION IN THE LORE TO BE RIGHT AFTER THE HERESY, SO THEY DIVERGED FROM CHAOS MARINES A LONG, LONG TIME AGO, AND CHAOS WILL FEEL MORE LIKE A UNIQUE ARMY WITH ITS OWN IDENTITY.

IN EITHER CASE, THEY PROBABLY WON'T BE HAVING 2 WOUNDS, BECAUSE 2E'S WOUND COUNTS DON'T SUPPORT IT, 8E NEEDED TO BLOAT ALL THE WOUND COUNTS UP HUGELY TO CREATE THE GRANULARITY NECESSARY FOR THAT. BUT WE'LL SEE HOW PLAYTESTING GOES WITH MARINES. IF THEY NEED A BOOST IT COULD BE DONE.

Also hey know what annoys me more recently? Trygons were the original gargantuan creature, then didn’t get elevated back up when the Wraithknight did.

Sure, they’re smaller than a wraithknight or imperial knight, but they’re still a lot bigger than you’d think from their profile alone.

I had ideas for new weapons for nids, one is basically a rifle shaped mini zoanthrope, designed for use by hive tyrants or "swarm lords" (that is the generic not single character revised version) basically a weapon to pump out psychic screams.

The other was a pistol shrimp claw designed to produced sonic blasts that could be used by warriors, hive guard and carnifexes

Look up the Alpha Legion page on the 40k wiki, particularly how a Harrow functions. Essentially, at the peak of their operations in a particular warzone, they'll unleash everything at once, overwhelming the target from every direction during all the confusion, including fire support from vehicles and flyers, hell, even probably lance strikes from their orbiting ships if they can manage it. its only during early stages of operations that the Alpha Legion primarily relies on subterfuge, sabotage, and individual small scale operatives

You have what’s called an “imagination” which alllows you to concieve of new and interesting ideas. GW apparently lacks this when it comes to tyranids.

Tyranids have had nothing substantial added to the army since 5th edition, ironically. Maleceptors are big zoanthropes. Toxicrenes are big venomthropes. Tyrannocytes are re-named mycetic spores.

Exocrines were really the only thing that was a new tool in the box.

Weren't they just big pyro/biovores?
I also wish that nids had more facial variety. Old biovore is a bit goofy looking, but it has a cool kind of zoat/amphibian expression. Now its just the same (often upscaled) gaunt dinoface or the same lictor squidface. Tyrant/hiveguard are a nice exception I guess.

>> No.73808557

>>73807611
It’s partially him, and partially the fact that Tyranids have legitimate grievances.

Players who are outside of the hive mind have difficulty understanding the fractal nature of the fuckings turanid players have recieved over the past ten years. The fuckings contain additional fuckings within them, and so on ad infinetum.

Remember that time when hive tyrants could get aura reroll buffs with ancient adversary? Fuck you, Tyranids, that’s a marine thing now.

Remember when Tyranids had fleet of claw and move through cover, making them very fast despite lacking transports? Fuck you, Tyranids. None of that matters anymore.

Remember when Tyranids were dangerous in close combat? Fuck you, tyranids. Your strength and attacks will not be scaled to the much tougher vehicles of this edition. Carnifexes, which almost assuredly destroyed any vehicle it came into close contact with, is now absolutely pathetic in this role. Indeed, everything in its profile screams for it to be used as a shooting platform. I can purchase an upgrade to give it space marine ballistic skill, but there is no way to give it a solid weapon skill. Leave it to Cruddace to make the Carnifex, a unit invarably described as a living battering ram and close combat monster, into a fucking shooting platform.

The 8th edition codex was the first time since fifth where they even attempted to make any sort of cohesive design decisions, but every entry looks like it was it was sabotaged or adjusted to make it just shy of being “good”. Haruspexes would be decent if they had WS3. Carnifexes that were strength 8 and WS3 might actually see combat, and crushing claws giving minus one to hit is absolute horseshit.

Hive tyrants have 12 wounds while the carnifex has 8 so they can be targeted while the carni remains at 8w. Shit like that.

Let me be clear: Tyranids are not the only ones to be fucked this way. They’ve just been getting it the longest and most consistently.
