Re: The question about small games being more interesting from the last thread.

My solution was to make a game mode oriented around small forces and a small table.

Age of Sigmar has a mode called Meeting Engagements. I adapted it to 40k, lifting the name Combat Patrol from similar modes in past editions. Basically it's played on a small board, 4x3' or two Kill Team boards, and your army arrives over the course of the first two turns rather than being all set up at once. I still need to write the missions, but the rules are in the file

>A lot. That's kind of why the silent king was as close to a necron can get to sad after biotransference.

NOPE. Having no soul causes existential PAIN in the Necrons. All of them feel it,not jusyt the Silent King.

All Necrons in the novels hav ebeen shown to feel pain, love, hate, and all the spectrum of emotion. READ NECRON LORE.

And you didn't address the fact that pariahs despite being soulless are just normal humans capable of being as emotive as any human.

>Number one it wasn't an assassin,

Duelist.

>number two no I'm not.

Yes, you are.

>*insert irrelevant garage*

Have nothing with the subject especially when the Newcrons since day 1 have been shown to have emotions that the Warp and psykers can feel.

>Necrons can't feel true emotion,

False. They can. You don't get to dismiss 9 years worth of novels and codexes.

>what personality they used to have was warped by bio transference.

The codex says the biotransference worked perfectly. The Great Sleep caused damage to their minds and all it did was cause them to become more insane and EMOTIVE.

>Destroyers are a prime fucking example of this, fully embracing their new machine forms too bad they look retarded.

Jesus Christ. The Destroyers are the guys who were so PAINED and DISTRAUGHT by the loss of their the damage to their minds that they went insane. They are fucking lunatics and the one character Destroyer that got screentime in GW content was a humming retard that practically sang as he killed.

It's probably worth noting that actual Combat Patrol is usually sub-500pts, so the name is probably a bit misleading - there's an 8thEd CP ruleset done by Adepticon, though it's very barebones.

Yes it does, just saying Necron lore as it stands at the moment makes zero fucking sense, which sucks since I like them.
>False. They can. You don't get to dismiss 9 years worth of novels and codexes.
Simulated emotion, not true emotion. Also you haven't given a source that says they can detect Necron hatred or whatever bullshit you're spinning, meanwhile the Immortals Codex entry specifically states they are incapable of emoting or learning.
>The codex says the biotransference worked perfectly

Inconsistent, considering the Destroyer Lord codex entry says
>By their calculation, joy is just one more pointless emotion, and the favour of gods naught but find a crutch to support the frailties of flesh

>Necron psychic awakening preview story implies otherwise.

Implies what? Post the text.

>Yes it does, just saying Necron lore as it stands at the moment makes zero fucking sense, which sucks since I like them.

It doesn't. Newcrons have been consistently being shown to have emotions.

>Simulated emotion, not true emotion. Also you haven't given a source that says they can detect Necron hatred or whatever bullshit you're spinning, meanwhile the Immortals Codex entry specifically states they are incapable of emoting or learning.

BULLFUCKING SHIT. The 7th ED codex has an Immortal expressing contempt to humans. Also the Kill Team lore has them talking and emoting hating on the T'au. The Novokh Immortals are said to show extreme savagery.

The sources to psykers and Warp feeling Necron emotion is the Damnos novel and the CSM 8th ED codex.

True emotion.

>For the Slient King, the guy with the most advanced body possible to manufacture, and even he noted fucked up feelings after.

ALL OF THEM. The fucking codex says so.

>Inconsistent, considering the Destroyer Lord codex entry says

Just because it's pointless doesn't mean that they don't feel it.

>To be fair it mentions anger in the first paragraph but again, it's probably simulated anger.

True emotion which is why psykers can see. You don't see psykers seeing the emotion of true robots because Necron minds are LIVING.

> They're too elite for board control.
> No proper melee presence outside of Daemon Princes.
> Not enough shots to deal with hordes
> No antitank.
> Psychic tables are very tame and weak with high WC cost all across the board.

Tzeentch Daemons are also pretty shit - there's never any reason to ally them (as any niche they can fill is better done by one of the 1k sons units).

There's a reason why most competetive lists involve a supreme command of [2x Winged Daemon Princes, Ahriman], and then ally in other Chaos stuff.

depends on how it's used. if it's used to separate paragraphs, then I really don't see a problem with it. particularly in environments where indentation isn't really a thing. It's difficult to overestimate the effect of line breaks and indentation have on readability until you have the misfortune of trying to read something written in the context of an environment that features neither. Environments such as this one.
I'd much rather see paragraphs be separated by a line break than a wall of text where indentation can only be implied by whatever space is left in the concluding sentence of the paragraph preceding what would have otherwise easily been identified as the beginning of the next paragraph if only indentation were commonly used in the posting environment.

I offer that space here by way of proof of concept. Doesn't this paragraph, the one which I am writing right now, look a bit less ugly than the two paragraph long section of text immediately preceding the line break? Does it not do a better job of distinguishing the end of one paragraph from the beginning of the other?

Of course, spacing can be misused.

It can be used inappropriately.

It can be misused so flagrantly as to inspire contempt on the part of the reader.

For example, one could use it to separate sentences that would be quite at home in the company of other sentences concerned with expressing a particular idea or a singular quality or facet of a complicated concept, one which could be broken down quality by quality (each explored within the context of its own paragraph), compounding, with every iteration the writer's crimes against readability; conversely, they may fall into another bad habit altogether - they may use semicolons, dashes and parenthetical statements in such a manner as to defeat the purpose of paragraphs and so constitute their own, distinct crime against readability though the constructed paragraph technically abides by the rules of grammar.

Anger. Pain. Bitterness. Brotherhood. Authority. It's like "Why do heroin addicts keep shooting up dope instead of just dying?" cause it's all they have left. Thats pretty much Chaos Marines, What else are they going to do? I've never read about a single marine who was like "Man, there has to be more to this life, I'm going to go live for myself and do what I want for once!" other than the Ashen Claws, and honestly they don't seem like that was the reasoning for building a little empire and fucking humans out in the fringes.

I honestly don't think they can ever think like that. Otherwise you'd have tons of White Scars out just roaming the galaxy on their own doing White Scar things.

There's a warsmith in the Storm of Iron novel, Forrix (Same guy from the First Wall HH novel), and he's pretty much lost his drive for the long war in the beginning. He's just going through the motions, but halfway through the battle for Hydra Cordatus he regains his fire only to get plasma nuked by a Warhound Titan in literal single combat. Shame cause he was the only good character in those books.

You know that Black Library is not always 100% accurate canon, right? Authors can get shit wrong, and seeing as how much of a clusterfuck Necron lore is them getting something wrong isn't a surprise.
>Nope. They are living minds that have been lobotomised. A Necron mind is not ones and zeros. It's a metaphysical spark.
A Necron's mind is literally ones and zeros because it has to make it's machine body function. What, do you think they have literal, living brains inside their heads?
>Yes. By the definition of many characters in the setting.
Except destroyers, right? They don't count even though they are constantly talked about as embracing machinery to kill more efficiently.
>An android body that houses a LIVING mind that's capable of emotion and projecting a psychic trail.
That's fucking stupid. Psychic powers and emotions in 40k have always come from souls, that's why the Emperor feeds on Psykers specifically, why the Tau have little warp presence, Eldar feel more powerful emotions as an all psyker race, etc. Necrons do not have souls, psychic ability, real emotions, or anything else resembling such after biotransferance. It's fucking retarded to even claim they have a psychic trail considering their one race trait is they have zero psychic potential and used to make anti psykers and even still kind of do with gloom prisms/cadian pylons/dark throne/etc..

That is somewhat true.

While a 2000 point force would be roughly company sized, some units would originate from different companies.

For example.

Let's say you have an army with 90 guardsmen, a company commander, 3 platoon leaders, and 4 leman russ tanks

The infantry forces (which would be the commander and 3 platoons) themselves form a small company.

While the tanks would form their own platoon (tank platoons being from 3-5 tanks), that platoon would organizationally belong to a separate company from the infantry company.

However, despite on paper being from a completely separate company, this platoon could be attached to the infantry company, and they would fall under the command of the company commander to use as he sees fit.

So this army might be fluffed as Bravo Company of the 242nd cadian infantry, supported by elements of the 77th cadian armored.

Except Necrons projecting a PSYCHIC aura of emotion is a common theme in their novels and appearances. This shows a mandated bible lore approach.

>A Necron's mind is literally ones and zeros because it has to make it's machine body function. What, do you think they have literal, living brains inside their heads?

Like I said. A metaphysical spark inside a metal body. Why do you think actual robots even those created by brain coping don't have any effect on the Warp and psykers are blind to them? 1s and 0s do not give off emotion.

Also in the World Engine novel, the C'tan shard dismantles the Necron antagonist piece by piece until it reveals his mind which like I said is a spark of energy.

I mean for fuck sake. Why do you think the next step in Biotransference is becoming energy beings like the C'tan? The Necrons took one step in that regard. They didn't complete it.

>Except destroyers, right? They don't count even though they are constantly talked about as embracing machinery to kill more efficiently.

They attempt to embrace the machine but their obsession comes from hurt and loss. Heck, the Gladius even confirms that the Destroyer thing is just a curse by the C'tan to further torment the Necrons. It's not even natural.

>souls

Souls are just some's connection to the Warp. They have NOTHING to do with you feeling emotions or not. It just means your emotions that you feel in your brain have an easier time reflecting in the Warp. That's it. It speaks to how emotive the Necrons are for their emotions to blaze like that to psykers despite having no souls.

>Like I said. A metaphysical spark inside a metal body. Why do you think actual robots even those created by brain coping don't have any effect on the Warp and psykers are blind to them? 1s and 0s do not give off emotion.
Well apparently they do considering pylons give off psychic signatures. I think the author just got confused.
>Also in the World Engine novel, the C'tan shard dismantles the Necron antagonist piece by piece until it reveals his mind which like I said is a spark of energy.
Well I mean all Necrons glow. That spark of energy could be the main power source as well.
>I mean for fuck sake. Why do you think the next step in Biotransference is becoming energy beings like the C'tan? The Necrons took one step in that regard. They didn't complete it.

I've read the rulebook and the csm codex but I'm a brainlet.

Under what circumstances can I field Khorne daemons without summoning with my 100% Khorne csm army? Does It have to be a separate detachment or do I somehow unlock bloodletters as a troop choice?

If I field separate detachment for it, what benefits do I lose for doing so?

We talked about a non-Tau Gundam Force, we figured the Imperial Guard would make the most sense, the Elysian Drop Troops being our pick, they were very akin to when Zeon invaded Earth with the jet pack troops. Still would love to see a Space Marine theme done, I mean just about all armies could work, just not nids, but the Orks offer so much potential.

Asking again. Is there a website, or has there been talk of making a website, that focuses on making and archiving homebrew armies? I'm talking having templates and pages dedicated to Your Dudes that can be shared like a profile and discussed with others. I think it'd really help for "expanding" the 40K universe in a semi-canon way while also providing a tool for easy creation and catagorization of armies. It could have templates for different factions (Space Marines could have companies to fill out and whatnot) or just an editable page for your dudes.

If this hasn't been made yet, why not?

Honestly I just like how their space pirate grubs that come up with plans using some bat shit crazy ideas.
Like in Faith and Fury where they were enlisted to work with the Word Bearers, so they decided to torturer a bunch of astropaths and navigators so that incoming relief forces had to drop out of the warp early to safely get to the warzone, unfortunately for them the Night Lords had set it so they had to go through a massive debris field, which the Night Lords proceeded to trap and plunder all the incoming vessels.
They may not be the greatest in open war, but when it comes to being massive grubs and fighting dirty there's almost no contenders.

Easy fix. Have anyone be able to make and present their dudes, but if they want, they can submit their dudes to be reviewed by a team that is versed on 40K lore. If the army makes sense, isn't obvious immediate trash, and could feasibly fit within the lore (not that hard), then the army gets tagged as "Official" or whatever.

Then, other users could just set their search filter to only show armies that are "official" and thus you weed out all the immediate garbage. You could also have a rating system so that anyone could filter out armies by selecting to only have armies rated above a certain score to show.

All I'm saying is that things can be implemented to fix this.

My friends use them at our GW and once they're painted the manager doesn't mind so long as you don't tell other people where you got them from.

I'd say first make sure you enjoy the game and play it at least to the first boss before going all in. That said it's an amazing game and I own all the expansions except No Respite which is on its way.

If you only had to pick one expansion I'd pick Escalation, but it's the expensive one but adds the most by far. As for the "cheaper" ~60 expansions Traitor Command is cool mostly because it has a Chaos Commissar which I like, the only other one I know of being in that 7th Ed. Dark Vengeance starter set.

But for mechanics and stuff it's really just flavor between them (besides Escalation)

I first played GG on a PC emulator on Christmas 2001/02, right after I was playing a imported Dreamcast game called Headhunter, friends were at the house and we were watching the DVD I had just got of Endless Walts good times. Anyway back to the point, yeah that would be awesome, sadly the video game industry today is not about awesome, its more about making a quick buck, kinda why DoW III failed, yet I still play DoW modded with Ultimate Apocalypse, which is based on a 2004 game engine. I used to have hopes for such things, then came warhammer eternal crusade, and before that, I can't remember the name, but it was supposed to be a xbox 360 exclusive that was Gundam: Call of Duty, I think it ended up as Mobile Ops: The One Year War.

What I wouldn't give for a MMO of Warhammer 40k, done like the MMO RF Online(had Eldar vs Necrons vs Tau, and as a Tau you actually got a mobile suit to pilot), modernized where we could wage war across the galaxy.

Why hasn't GW leaned more into neoprene mats?

Nothing too nuts, just a 6x4 for both AoS and 40k. Hell, they could test the waters with Kill team/Warcry sized ones.

I know they tried that 4x4 one, but that was baffling since their games are played on a 6x4 table.

Being unreasonable is part of being an inquisitor. The reasonable ones tend to be the outliers. I don't think you understand what sort of setting 40k is. When I think of 40k, it's of a short story involving the guard putting down a chaos riot. At one point, one of the cultist grabs a pregnant woman and starts using her as a shield. The woman bites him and tries to fight him off, and it looks like she might break free, giving the guard a free shot, but then, the commissar's laspistol goes off. With no hesitation, no mercy, he shoots right through her and the heretic, ending all three lives. He doesn't even think about it after the deed; leaving the scene with the implication that he has done similar many times over before. That right there is what 40k is about. A glimmer of hope that is crushed and drowned in a pool of blood, in the shadow of cyclopean gothic hive spires jutting into a sky eternally overcast with toxins and pollutants. All that struggle for nothing. That is 40k.

>A single eldar witch remained, her face blackened by soot, her silver hair singed and burned. She looked up at the Lord of the Drakes, eyes watering, rage telegraphed in the tightness of her lips and the angle of her brow. The faltering kine-shield that had spared her life crackled and disappeared into ether.

>She was not much older than a child, a witchling. Teeth clenched, fighting the grief at the death of her coven, the eldar offered up her wrists in surrender.

>Numeon and the others had just breached the crowds, which were now slowly dissipating into the wider desert and being mopped up diligently by Nemetor and the rest of the Legion. In the wake of the fleeing civilians, the true cost of the eldar’s escape attempt was revealed. Men, women, children; Khar-tans and Imperials alike, lay dead. Crushed. Blood ran in red rivulets across the sand, the death toll in the hundreds.

>Amongst them a solitary figure was conspicuous, crowded by a clutch of battered remembrancers unwilling to let anyone close, desperate to defend her unmoving body. Vulkan saw her last of all, the shock of this discovery turning to anger on his noble face. His eyes blazed, embers flickered to infernos.

>The eldar child raised her hands higher, defiance turning into fear upon her features. Numeon held the others back, warning them with a look not to intervene. Glaring down at her, Vulkan raised his fist…

>Don’t do it…

>…and turned the air into fire.

>…eldar child’s screams didn't end. Vulkan made sure to draw it out, and her disturbingly human screams merged with the roar of the flames, turning into one horrific cacophony of sound. When it was over and the last xenos was a smoking husk of burned meat, Vulkan looked up and met the gaze of the Night Lords, a bloodthirsty grin on his face...
