Is there a reason the Unknown Regions have been so poorly explored? I'm figuring it has to do how "half a galaxy" is still billions upon billions of stars and however trillions of planets that can be colonized, cultivated or crushed for ore, so there isn't really any *need* to explore the Unknown Regions.

>> No.71495309

>> No.71495437

Hyperspace travel is very, very shitty over there.

>> No.71495505

Partly that, partly also the danger of charting new hyperspace routes.

>> No.71495519

The galaxy at large exists because it has been mapped out over the course of tens of thousands of years by countless explorers from numerous different civilizational cradles risking horrific death every single second of the way. Even the known galaxy isn't 100% explored, there are untold millions of planetary systems that nobody goes to, or are secret, simply because they've never bothered to investigate. The Unknown Regions are unknown because there's no impetus to explore very far into an area without established space roads.
You may as well ask why the Earth's ocean is 99% unexplored.

>> No.71495767

There's just a lot of massive chunks of space debris flying around between systems, which means that there's a much larger threat of any explorer ship or probe sent out there splattering against the mass shadow of one of those planetoids, which makes establishing a safe hyperspace route much harder than in the rest of the galaxy. And, once you do get there, there's all sorts of unusual space beasties and xenophobic alien races clinging to life around the few colonies they can maintain despite the space monsters and hyperspace issues. All this adds up to the Unknown Regions being a dangerous place that swallows up any attempts at exploring it.

>> No.71495791

Think of it as essentially being the arctic and antarctic, with 18th century ships.
That's the danger level we're talking about

>> No.71495830

But is there a northwest passage?

>> No.71495904

... To where? The thing about the Northwest Passage is that there was a clear starting point and a clear ending point. The trick of the thing was the middle. With the Unknown Regions, it's just a big slab of "nothing." Even Lewis and Clarke knew where they were heading. You're charting unknown Hyperspace lanes leading to nothing at all and nowhere in particular. What you need is a civilization out there - way out there - that can serve as your reference point.

So what I'm saying is, the Unknown Regions is a brilliant place for GMs to use for more cartographical parties interested in being daring explorers and archaeologists instead of scum or scavengers.

>> No.71495950

Not sure how everyone else feels, but I kinda like BB unit and BB-8, feels like one of the few things from the ST that were fitting for Star Wars

Wildspace is dangerous because its just so damn far, there's no traffic to the point anyone will every find you if there's a problem.
Unknown regions are dangerous because your chances of getting cornholed by a mass shadow is 'pretty good' and you'll die horribly in a flaming ball

>> No.71496182

Okay so tentatively I will GM but it will be my first time.
First up I am thinking of a one-shot that if successful we can turn into a whole campaign.
Specific details/hooks:

>Set on Taris to start with, perhaps amid an outbreak of a virus to add flavor.
>Post-Endor, 5 ABY
>Local governor has made the planet his own personal fiefdom. Rather than join the rest of the Imperial Remnant, he bent to the wind and happily raised the New Republic banner in exchange for remaining in power. His stormtroopers have been "volunteered" as the planetary security force
>He also lets free trade continue on the world in exchange for a cut of it all.
>The NR lets this happen as they want to spend the resources elsewhere actually fighting the Imperial Remnants and Warlords. They're suspicious of him though.
>Something something Secret Order of the Emperor starts getting involved
>Something with Star Tours

Question is Legends only or hybrid Legends/canon. If the latter Secret Order is recruiting for the Sith Eternal, and there'll be Exegol connections.
We can work out details, including a full-Legends conversion, as popularly mandated

That might be, but I'm hitting the categories of this Wiki and I'm getting dozens upon dozens of lore-friendly fruits and pastries and beverages. They've even got a category on breakfast foods. On second thought, this might be too deep in the 'tism. I need to step back from this before I devote too much time to figuring out what a well-balanced breakfast would consist of.

Lorefag critique: The Imperial Remnant wasn't established until 12 ABY, when Daala gassed all the warlords and consolidated their forces. By 5 ABY, the "legitimate" Empire was still in control of Coruscant and was being ruled by Isard, though a few of the major warlords had already split off (Zsinj, Teradoc, Harrsk, Kaine) and the Central Committee of Grand Moffs (of Trioculus fame) had formed to try to siphon control away from her. Isard still controlled the largest Imperial faction, however, and still ran it under the banner of the Galactic Empire.

Also known as the one things she managed to do right in that book series, where otherwise all of her “onscreen” actions were pretty much total failures. Despite supposedly being a really good military leader according to the books themselves.
But hey, at least she didn’t try and build a stripped down Death Star in an asteroid thicket made by retarded drones using substandard materials...

You know, you make a good point. People shit on Isard for being a retard, but mostly overlook how much of a failure Daala is in comparison. Isard even has the excuse of being an Intelligence director who understood subterfuge but not military strategy

Full disclosure, I haven’t actually read Darksaber, or any of the other books in that series of novels, I’ve just read some stuff about it on the internet, and it points out how most of the things Needa does is dumb, and that gassing the warlords was pretty much tyhe only real success of hers, even if it was very temporary, and her quitting was also a good move because it meant she figured out that she probably shouldn’t be leading any Imperials
Again, not as bad as Durga’s “master plan”.

Capable of eating literal refuse, these rodent-like nomads don't really have a "cuisine" so much as a no-nonsense method of cookery. They are equally likely to buy prepared food from a vendor in Mos Eisley as they are to catch a scurrier in a rat-trap and deep fry it in their sandcrawler's axle grease. However their more humanoid-safe fare is "cowboy food" - pan-fried beans, rock warrts roasting on a spit over an open fire, bantha jerky, and so on.
The near monopoly Pykes have on the spice trade means virtually every single food item and beverage in Pyke space has some variant of spice in the drug-addicted species, and is not fit for repeated consumption by other races without risk of addiction themselves. That said, they are masters of the refinement of Kessel spice into a variety of flavored food additives, not all of which taste like cinnamon - much of it is used the same way MonoSodium Glutamate is, except it literally takes a month off your lifespan every time you eat it - and their Jogan Cider shouldn't be missed.
This is an underdeveloped species in both continuities, give me another race to brainstorm.

The droids seemed to be the ones the general population felt more disdain towards in the end, there's also the droid xenophobia in ANH, the war likely created a fair amount of anti-droid sentiment. Jedi didn't have a good public image by the end of the war either but "Jedi wars" suggests some kind of civil war like in Kotor, also they weren't as widespread as droids and the public forgot about them in like 30 years. Droid Wars would've made more sense to me.

Honestly I think Lucas didn't have a sold idea of what the Clone Wars were at the time or it might've been something closer to what that canned Kenner toy project with Atha Prime was going to be. Maybe it was envisioned as a clone vs clone conflict at first but then that changed.

Repostin to you

To the anons starting a game, good luck. I got a few little tips from my Star Wars GM'ing

>make sure your character isnt a complete meme. A concept may be good for a 1 off NPC, but not a full main cast member (think Stinkmeaner vs Huey)
>tone is flexible. Even silly things can be incorporated with the right bit of work. You can have Raith Sienar be a young startup with a spice problem cuz he ran off with a small loan to start his own company with blackjack and hookers if you want, its all in how you portray it.
>canon is whatever you want it to be, and whatever the group makes it. I wouldnt touch too many main events though-- the Death Star blows up, Luke gets to be Jedi Knight at Endor, and Sheev gets to be Emperor. Beyond that? Fair game. Even that stuff can be changed too.
>just because you havent seen it doesnt mean it cant exist. Conversely, be careful of making new tech. D6 manual specifically mentions hyperspace tracking!
>remember that its not GM vs players. You are the parties' cheerleader, and make challenges for them to overcome, not challenges to kill them. A TPK is usually a failure of communication. Either they didnt understand the scope of the threat, or you didnt understand their ability.
>if they have metacurrency/fate points, remind them they can spend them.
>if you get stuck on a rule vaguery, just make a call and move on.
>players, have an idea what you want to do before your turn.
>decide soon if you will or wont allow Force stuff
>dont forget, npcs dont have to be fallout bandits. Few people would fight to the death over dumb stuff!
>the best game moments are natural, not forced lolsorandum meme shit.
>in a universe of cyborg stuff, death doesnt have to be death...

To give an idea how valuable these casks can be (especially the finer vintages like Emerald Wine) Han Solo famously said that he could sell the Millennium Falcon and maybe, MAYBE, buy a case of Whyvern's Reserve, Batch Number NN182. The Falcon is priced in Starships and Speeders at 425,000 credits. Even assuming the party is tasked with grabbing only a single bottle of NN182 (and assuming a "case" is the American 12-bottle standard,) that's still 35,416 credits. In terms of quality, as an animated show it's on the higher end when it comes to writing, very high when compared to any other 3D animated show's animation. It shines when it focuses on the clones and the battles. I can understand why it's such a loved show when you think about decline of western animation in the past decade and Star Wars on screen outside of the movies back then.

Of course EU fans will judge it with more scrutiny because they're comparing it to a lot of material that's either a 400 page novel or an ongoing comic series targeted primarily at older fans. Clone Wars is fine for what it is, but there's always fans that want to compare it to the EU or are mad it isn't consistent enough with it, even when Filoni and Lucas have been very transparent about the EU and Lucas' creations existing in separate continuities, they're essentially using the EU the same way DC and Marvel use the comics when making tv or film, it's not going to be 100% exact, just like Heath Ledger's Joker isn't the same as the one that was in the comics at the time, liberties are taken.

Pablo actually confirmed Felucia was a part of the George Lucas' draft for Episode VII, looks like it got replaced with Takodana. The eastern looking city where Han Solo was hanging out may have also been on Felucia considering it's capital is called Kway Teow, named after an east Asia dish like the Gossam Shu Mai.

George seemed to have a fondness for Felucia, it appeared a lot in Clone Wars and it made it into Force Unleashed. It is a cool design.

I don't actually mind Tatooine itself calming down, it's more the fact that it came at the cost of the entire Hutt Empire. And like I said from the start, I'm largely mixed because one one hand I DO enjoy seeing these planets change and develop, it's just that I'm the other half the changes felt like they were made just so disney could dye another part of the setting in their colors. You're the one trying to color me as frothing at the mouth over this.

Though yes, Tatooine being more peaceful means there's less to do with the planet. Hell, just look at how dead the old Mos Eisley cantina was in Mandalorian, that's a pretty blunt representation of what I'm saying.

As a retired EUfag I have no strong opinions on it. I've seen everything except the most recent season and my read is it fluctuates between 4/10 and 7/10 episode to episode and is probably a 6/10 if you're generous.

Which for Star Wars is, honestly, pretty good.

8/10 seems like an impossible dream for Star Wars outside of ESB.

I've not really had players collect droids, there was a droid rights activist we had in the 90's that basically stole everything droid related, including a factory to make them but in terms of gathering them up for the sake of collections, no.
They do steal them though
At some point one of the sharper pencils figured out "oh, that lil bastid is worth a fair bit of cash", so they just kept stealing droids to fun their debt repayments, ship repairs, guns, bombs and stim packs to keep on going. Mostly they kept away from the more complicated and exotic ones, but anything that's a gonk, labour unit, astro or other technical type they'd kidnap, combat and security are a bit trickier though because they don't want to be abducted.

But yep a fair amount of their C-70 was devoted to 'Uncle Fucky's Bargain Droid emporium and property abuses'

Gosh, that's such a DnD thing to do though, isn't it? Yeah, its a very D&D pastime, about the only thing I can really do is apply enough pressure from outside sources -aka: extremely violent repercussions from the soon to be down a few things they once owned. So they steal less.
Otherwise left to their own devices there's literally 2/3rds of the group who will actively steal anything not nailed down and just keep stealing like a gypsy with a mortgage

Its sort of the one universal thing I can count on them doing, the other is some poor fucking NPC getting blasted if they get in the way of some items, I once referred to D&D as the 'primer course to home invasions', but it could be applied to any other rpg
