>Have you ever run a deck that exists to make people miserable?
Unintentionally. I build a Krupix deck so I could play all my favorite fatties; all the good eldrazi, the on-colour praetors, etc. Then I threw in a bunch of counters to back them all up.
Turns out a ton of annihilator + countering all my opponents relevant things doesn't make for a very good time for my opponents. One of my buds has even gone so far as to say the motto of my deck is "there is a finite amount of fun to be had in a match, and your deck monopolizes it."

>> No.57244954

He's fun but either very linear or entirely generic. You don't really have to modify your deck or plan aside from the usual Big Black approach. But as >>57244744 pointed out, there are plenty of things to do with your tokens. Making piles of mana is easy, you can definitely cash in a mostly artifact creature strategy to fuel the big finisher X spell of your choice. I don't have a list but a buddy of mine played his to revolve around every creature that had sacrificing downsides or alternate costs and using him to pay for them. Stuff like Smothering Abomination, Delraich, Demon of Death's Gate, etc. He's really more of an augmenting commander than a focal lynchpin.

If you just want to cheese people, Assault Suit can draw the game.

Mazirek is pretty simple. You just go infinite and win.

But yeah Jarad is probs the most straight forward golgari general. Play big dudes, hit people with them, sac them in response to removal or when it kills somebody.

>> No.57245181

Listen bud, let red have stuff, ok.

Blue took our snapcaster mage. Blue can interact with enchantments. When blue draws cards they don't get exiled at end of turn. Life is hard for the red mage. Let us have new things.

>> No.57245237

Meren gets some complicated board states, but it's not terribly hard. I'd say Varolz is deceptively easy, because it's a bit hard to win with. Big voltron strats are extremely fragile. Easy to play, hard to play effectively.

What's the problem, anon? Are you playing while drinking most of the time or something? You seem to be able to string together a sentence.

It really depends on what kind of deck you want to play. I'd definitely give my vote to Neheb, as I have had extreme amounts of fun with him, assuming that you talk about the B/R one. Besides, Lord of riots is weakened by Rakdos syndrome.

>Thread question
It really seems like every deck I run makes others miserable, Neheb killing hands, Ghave comboing, Memnarch stealing, Sapling sticking and so on. Only deck I built to ravage anuses was Hanna, and it still makes people miserable, but still it seems like all strategies make people miserable, if the deck has interaction.
People hate removal and other interaction, it seems.
Last immense butthurt was eons ago though and I have never seen anyone as mad after it, and it was me playing pic related in Ayli and bullying Mayael player, stealing the commander and saccing it. The one time he killed Mayael and the guy with Polukranos, he completely gave up and whined after I recurred my man with my sweet foil signed Phyrexian reclamation. He started huffing something about having power 9 in a vault or something.

>> No.57245495

I wouldn't.

>> No.57245634

I probably won't put it anywhere. It'd be fringe playable against tokens, such as after Rith connects, or in response to Second harvest, but Rith player can just not pay instead.
I'd rather play Stunt double.

>> No.57245678

They probably made it as some sort of safety valve against Locust God. Best case scenario, you resolve it in front of Enter the Infinite, but most of the time you'd probably just be getting seven bugs and stopping the Locust player from going off this turn.

>> No.57245708

You could also steal a Scarab God token, for what it's worth.

yeah it's pretty fucked all around

you don't have enough lands

you don't have enough mana fixing, ie. nonbasic lands (doran needs it especially much since you want to cast him on turn 3)

you could also do with a bit more ramp, but it's not 100% necessary

but most importantly, the deck looks very weak and not very fun to play. your plan appears to be to drop walls and wait for one of the few cards that let you attack with them. your deck loses to a single board wipe and has basically no way to recover from that because you have no card draw or reanimation.

i would highly suggest not buying the deck. i don't suggest building 3-color decks or goofy tribals as your first deck anyway, you'll probably just feel bad when it inevitably folds to a deck that plays blue or black and runs circles around it

Sort of both. I'd say more functionally similar to bounce than flicker, since it's still temporarily getting rid of something in a way that causes its owner to have to commit resources to getting it back.

It feels like it's a "new" bounce that's meant to be safe from discard shenanigans.

No because I have 0 interest in that kind of playing / deck and I dont know any specific cards, but when I build a deck no matter what I follow some principles in any case.

First, you should have a plan to win and two other plans as well, and this means having the proper cards to do this. These cards should have some level of synergy as well.

Second you need mana ramp and mana advantage with things like Sol Ring, and take advantage of the dual lands as well.

Third, your commander should synnergize with your deck but should not be the only win condition, anyone clever enough will just kill it or worse, inmobilize it with some enchantment like darksteel mutation, making him useless.

Then you need negation and counterspell, either that or discard ( I like blue/black) to make your opponents short of options against you.

I see very little synnergy in your deck besides the obvious commander effect, with some random things here and there that are not bad for commander but are not specific to your deck either. I also fail to see how you intend to win games with your deck if we take the commander out.

The problem with that commander is that blue is generally the color with better defenders, but you can still take advantage of black counters and green tramples and buffs to creatures. White is the color I'm least familiar with but you could take advantage of its buffs and protection from colors. All your defenders are useless if they get removed or if they get blocked, you need hexproof and trample, because a 1/1 token shitter will negate all your high defense defenders.

What I mean is, imagine situations of actual strategy, like for example what will you do when someone grave pacts you, then generates 10 tokens, then kills them and you have to sacrifice 10 of your defenders. Do you have means to counter that? can you not depend on your creatures? what can you add that's not a creature to make your deck more solid?

Its easy you just have to know how you intend to win and then look for cards that benefit you.

Many deck building sites have a synergy part where you can see other cards that would go well with your deck. You dont have to know all of Magic just a start and then add and remove cards later.

Making 60 and 40 card decks is miles harder for me, not only do you have to know all of magic, but you must also decide how many of them to add.

So I've got this budget-ish Ramos deck, I love the deck and the way it plays when things work right, but no matter what I've tried to change I swear to fuck my initial hands are playable maybe 1 out of 5 times. Despite having 39 lands, I almost NEVER draw enough lands in my opening hand. Despite adding TONS of mana rocks I almost NEVER have the right ramp.

I'm not sure what else I can change, if it's the deck or just insanely bad luck, and if I need to change anything at all.

Here's the list, if anyone could give me some tips I'd appreciate it greatly.

It doesnt matter what your preferred style is. I also enjoy creature decks, but this doesnt mean your strategy should be weak and simple. You need win conditions and cards that play well with eachother, with the benefit that you can only have one of them so it's easier deciding.

Just turning creatures sideways is not a good strategy if you can't draw creature cards, if the creatures get wiped, if the creatures are turned against you, if the creatures are blocked. You need strategy and cards to circumvent this.

It doesnt matter if a creature has a big number for low mana cost if that creature can be easily rendered useless, as I said for example if the opponent just creates shitty tokens and blocks you every time. What will you do then? do you have board wipes? do you have counterspells?

Splinter + liquidmetal coating is a good way in green to destroy all the opponent's lands, for example. You should think of things like these and integrate them into your deck so you have actual competitive chances. Otherwise your deck would be boring to play and to play against.

Why does wizards constantly print these stupidly expensive card draw things that are never ever good. It'd be tolerable if it was like 2 or 3 mana

A few reasons, but mostly standard and limited.

Honestly, if it was tormenting voice on a land for 4 colourless I'd play the fuck out of it. Really, they need to stop this needless tapping as part of costs. If you want someone to use something once per turn it's easy, slap 3 symbols of the same colour beside it, or two of one colour, and one of another. aNo one is going to have enough coloured mana to abuse it in competitive formats, and if they do, they can use the effect like twice before they run out of gas.

Colorless, repeatable card draw from an uncounterable source kind of needs to be expensive. You want this to cost 2 or 3, but Mikokoro (which holds value for good reason) costs 2 to activate and gives EVERYONE a card. Geier Reach Sanitarium is also used as a land that draws cards, and it costs 2 to activate, but it's both global like Mikokoro and a loot rather than a flat draw. Sea Gate Wreckage is marginal, but costs 3 (including an obligate colorless) and requires you to be hellbent.

Based on how every card with the mechanic is cost, I feel like Ascend is expected to be WAY easier to gain than Hellbent is to maintain, which means that Arch *should* be tougher to activate than Sea Gate Wreckage.

However, I don't think many EDH players run Jayemdae Tome anymore (4 to activate for colorless card draw). But then the Tome costs 4 to drop as well, so even if you count Arch's activation cost as a virtual 6 when comparing with tome (since you also lose out on tapping Arch for mana, a trait it shares with Mikokoro, Geier Reach, and Sea Gate Wreckage but not Jayemdae Tome) the total mana per card is in favor of Arch until you draw your third off either

It probably could have been cheaper (4 and no need for Ascend, say), but at 2 it would have been insane and pretty much an auto-include for colors with weaker draw engines. Maybe even for all decks, since it only takes a land slot.

As it is, it's going to grind like a champ, particularly (oddly enough) in u/x control builds that want to keep up counter mana.

2 or 3 mana to draw a card repeatably at instant speed is very very very good. If wizards was dumb enough to make the card you are talking about, it would see absurd amount of play, probably in every format outside vintage. Possibly also in vintage. Standard would be broken. >Alright pal, since you're so design savvy explain this shit
Something Design/Development fucking hates Boros.

I mean, the flip side isn't actually that bad (outside EDH at least), both abilities are fairly cheap for repeatable activated abilities on a land -- yes, even the random destruction it's repeatable CA and if you use it after combat you can eliminate anything you can just fucking eat with blocks from the RNG. If your opponent doesn't come at you and eat losses, you progress your clock on their end step, which is a good place to be in since it means you win at parity. And at least random is better than letting your opponent choose and sac a creature that attacked.

But first of all, it's not just a land you can drop. If it was, it would be OP as shit (even if it tapped for colorless instead of any color). It comes out as an enchantment which can be countered or removed way easier than Arch

Second, the flip condition is asinine. The Enchantment to Land flips in Ixalan could be demanding, but other than Arguel's (which had a decent front side) they tended to be things you would reliably and safely want to do, and led naturally into the "Payoff" land. Like Itlimoc needs you to have creatures but the flipside is Cradle so you wanted to have a good creature count anyway. Spitfire Bastion needs three spells, but its clearly intended for Burn and helps round out the game when you blow your hand. Azcanta only needs threshold and Adanto, Batallion while giving you a disposable token to start with.

To flip path to Metzali you need two thirds of the requirement to flip Adanto, and you don't get the freebie Adanto gives you, so it's basically the same "Investment". Add into that, your pool of potential triggering creatures is massively reduced. [First/Double] Strike, Vigilance, and Haste are good, but marginally uncommon abilities, so you can't just throw chaff under the bus.

>> No.57250502

ravnica bouncelands enter untapped without the bounce :^)

>> No.57250513

There's also the issue that Metzali has no home. It's red-white, but it really wants to be playing the attrition game, which Boros is shit at and the requirement to have plenty of fast, aggressive creatures in your deck to get the flip actively works against. Contrast this with Vance's Blasting Cannons, which while not the best of the flip enchantments at least knows where it belongs: at the top of a burn deck's curve, gasing it up on either side.

I decided to do a little searching to see if there was a Commander who could break the conundrum of dissynergy between the kind of deck you need to flip Path and the kind of deck that profits from Metzali -- ideally by granting one of Path's abilities to team so you can flip it with junk and keep on grinding. Anax and Cymede and Iroas grant the wrong abilities. Iizuka the Ruthless is trapped in monored. Johan doesn't technically grant vigilance. Odric and Rashka Golden Cub also fall short on colors.

One commander can do it: Motherfucking Samut. So, ok, in Samut you can flip Path of Mettle with any two creatures (or Samut+1 ir you want) and get Metzali.

Was it worth it? Probably not. Samut still doesn't really want to be the deck that Metzali wants to exist; something that would be happy sitting back and presenting a "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario where you bleed your opponent's board if they come at you and chip their life away if they don't.

There was one other option, and the most promising: Shu Yun. Path even sets him off the first time through. But to flip to Metzali in Shu Yun will cost you at least 6, more likely 7 or more, in a single turn (2 for Path, 4 for the Shu Yun triggers, and likely 1 or more for the second noncreature), at least 6 of it colored. Metzali isn't THAT stronk.

No, they still enter tapped. The "~ enters the battlefield tapped" ability is a replacement effect that applies before the land actually enters the battlefield, so it applies before the land would be affected. This same exact situation happens with Blood Moon too.

Still, you're correct that it won't bounce anything.
