Does anyone else use odd or less than ideal squad numbers because that's all you have painted?

Like for instance, I have just painted up 5 Crusaders, but because I don't have time to paint the other 5 before tomorrow, I'm going to put 5 Crusaders with 2 Ogryn Bodyguards and a Priest in a Valkyrie as a melee unit. I never used to be such a stickler about having my whole army painted, but now that 90% is painted, it feels weird having a single unit that isn't.

What would you guys think of certain characters getting unique psychic powers?

Currently there's a bit of an issue where psykers are rather homogenized. This is particularly noteworthy when offensive psychic powers are concerned -- two Malefic Lords outdamage Ahriman easily. Smite is the be-all-end-all of offensive powers, because GW is apparently terrified of making even more niche, difficult powers stronger and so, given the Psychic Focus rule, if you want any sort of reasonable psychic output you're left with packing as many cheap psykers as you can -- the dreaded Smite Spam.

But maybe giving characters some powers unique to them could help with that. Not only would it be flavorful and enhance their niches, it opens up room for stuff like Voldus having some strong offense without it unbalancing the rest of GK (not that they're in a particularly great spot at the moment, but you get the point). Quantity over quality is a big problem for psykers at the moment, and this could help tip the balance the other way. Doesn't have to be restricted to named characters either, maybe Zoanthropes could get a good tank-busting Warp Lance (design limitations of MW-based powers notwithstanding), or the various mini-Smiters get something a bit less volatile.

So for instance, Ahriman, who's known for mind bullets, gets a good offensive power only he can cast (which prevents the rest of his army of psykers from going over the edge). Eldrad gets a unique buff for allies. Mephiston bolsters himself further, and so on.

Thoughts?

Well, for one thing the Cultists rapid firing into guardsmen will do about 2 squad's worth of kills average. (80*2/3*2/3*2/3=23.7)
Even in a 1000 points game I expect at least half my infantry dead on turn 1. So this is not a big deal to me. And that's assuming you split your fire and I didn't have enough cover to deploy my troops in it (our GW has a lot of terrain, but your milage may vary)

Second, maybe you guys know better so correct me if I'm wrong but the Tide of Traitors rule says you need to pick a unit and remove it from the board. Doesn't that imply you need to still have living cultists on the board? If not that's fine and please ignore this point. But if so, I can kill 40 cultists with my army no problem! Even if I don't kill them outright, the Tide of Traitors and "Insane Bravery" Stratagems you'll burn keeping the cult from fleeing are going to hurt you in the long run. That's 5 CP spent on cultists to zero of my own.

Of course, this still buys you a decent turn to do what you want with the rest of your army. So I wouldn't call it an all-or-nothing cheese factory. I would call it a great but expensive tactic. I wouldn't worry about plasmanaters though because 5-10 S8 attacks is only going to kill one of my vehicles. Assuming my second wave doesn't move, move, move or forwards for the emperor back into screening position and waste another of your turns anyways.

So most of the important stuff is around to hurt you still. But even should you survive, 1CP for forward operatives+1 for Vets of Long Way +2 for insane bravery+2 for Tide of Traitors...that's 6 CP, all your free points plus a battalion, spent on 2 turns for cultists. I'm hoping you got at least another Battalion hiding somewhere because the rest of your game is going to be nearly naked against the most CP-efficient faction in the game.

Only 20 infantry? In 1000+ point games? So they're THAT kind of IG player huh? The ones who spam vehicles and have no respect for the common men?

They are just so fast and their vehicles and jetbikes are so frustrating thanks to Fly. Screening against them is hard, trying to disrupt them is hard, all the -1s to hit are rough, and stopping their powers is rough. They also have a lot of rules and stratagems that allow them to just do whatever they want. Basically, you're better off doing less against Eldar because the more active you are, the more they can put you out of position and can out maneuver you. I love moving around and using various maneuvers to box people in, but you just can't do that with Eldar, at least not against the people I play against. Meanwhile, if I sit still and gunline them to death I have little problems blowing them off the board, which is horribly boring.

I don't get that reply. I suppose I would say, if you mean to say that you're a tau player who has been playing for only 8th edition, what I said is about MY playgroup/area. Your results may vary.

>>56955766

I'm sure not ALL Tau players are insufferable turds, I've met one or two, but a LOT of them are where I play. Watching a gaggle of awful WAAC turbonerds whine about how their collections of riptides were rendered invalid after the changes to Riptides in 8th edition was one of the best times.

>They have a falling out of sorts
Examples:

We're bound to see this play out later on other characters from each Legion. With Fulgrim having been teased, his Lt. is likely to give him a prehensile-tongue-lashing over whatever dumb fixation they've got.

Conversely, for Loyalists, their Lts. get sidelined in light of their Primarch showing up.

Wont happen, one reason being that Fulgrim was the one that led them down the Slaanesh hole and the other being that the EC are absolutely broken so there wont be a real chain of command beyond "All follow Mommy Fulgrim", plus the Slaanesh equivalent of Typhus/Ahriman is Lucius and he's addicted to dying, no way that jobbing joke tells Fulgrim anything.

Rogue Trader and the 2nd ed codexes, the "current" version which is a cleaner version of RT/2nd ed is from "Horus Heresy: Collected Visions" which consolidated a lot of lore and cleaned it up so it looked like an actual storyline. They kind of republished it a couple years ago with new art, its called "Visions of Heresy".

Forgeworld has been doing a Horus Heresy of their own and its probably the best lore GW has published since fucking forever, it reads as if it was being collected and organized by an in-universe narrator trying to write a history book based on the Crusade and Heresy, real good shit.

Are there any 40k books from the perspective of a Nurgle follower? Plague Marine, Cultist, daemon ( be kinda weird but whatever ) or even Mortarion himself?

Pic, kinda related. Early Christmas present the wife just gave me.

New Short story called Endurance is pretty good. Also Cadian Blood has some scenes with Typhus.

Hey guys, I normally play MTG but today I passed by a Warhammer store and saw the coolest shit ever. They had these display cases filled with the most amazing minis and the guy running the store was so nice.

I'm trying to find the army that I was interested in so I can read more about them but don't remember the name exactly. They were like androids but they were good guys. I also remember hearing about how their leader, Robot Gulliman made the new primaris for the Aquamarines? They were wearing red robes and had cyber prosthetics.

I tried searching for them but all I got were pictures of the space marines they made. Can anyone help me out?

Hey thanks! Typhus is pretty bad ass. He's definitely on par with Kharn in my eyes.
Also random question, since the wife bought me Mortarion which I'm absolutely going to use as my new Warlord, I was thinking about buying some Deathshroud Bodygaurd to soak up any damage Mortarion might not be able to tank. Any body have any opinions?

The bayonet's part of the shoota barrel it's attached to, and even without it there's not enough space for another shoota.
I have no defense for the scope though, except that it lets you hit from farther away.

3.5 hands-down. The 40k player community expected and received continuous improvement right up to the creative team publishing rules for vehicle creation and for monster creation, one after the other - when suddenly, BOOM!
Gav Thorpe's Chaos codex hit the FLGS like an unflushable turd and ruined everything. Everything after that was made of stupid, fail and Finecast(tm) until Rountree. Now, 8th seems like an attempted return to the days of Ourguys. Time will tell.

Leaving your personal inadequacies aside, low demand for US$8+ plastic bolter dudes probably leads to even lower manufacturing priority and thus Citadel - who joined the Cult of Lean Manufacturing years ago - running out of stock. The real news here, is people acting surprised.
