Except. It works.

Say you took a DEATHWATCH Patrol detachment and a Super-Heavy Auxiliary detachment with Guilliman you unlock stratagems for both DEATHWATCH and CODEX SPACE MARINES.

Now look at Auspex scan. Select an ADEPTUS ASTARTES INFANTRY unit. Geez. Looks like a unit of Deathwatch Veterans has both ADEPTUS ASTARTES and INFANTRY. So you could use Codex Space Marine's stratagem on a non Codex Space Marine unit.

Now looking at Daemons they only have CHAOS, DAEMON, and <GOD> as tags. So if a stratagem says select a TZEENTCH DAEMON. Magnus the Red qualifies.

So long as you took a DAEMON detachment to unlock DAEMON stratagems.

What is melee?

>> No.56902974

I know, I did. See >>56902952

>> No.56902985

With the DW it's a more forgiving army for bad squad builds, so long as it's things with zero synergy and so on.
There's a lot of things you can do with them, but I would recommend a starter list focusing on not mixing too many unit types between squads, it's generally better to look at what the power-armoured guys in a squad can accomplish, and then ask yourself "what would a termie/assault/biker add to this squad".
The other larger issue is to ask yourself what kind of playstyle you want. DW can be fairly powerful at range, but to compete against vehicle armies their mainstays are generally getting into melee, it's generally possible to get the most synergy within 24". Long-range deathwatch units can be a good addition to a soup list, but the army as a whole isn't that kind of army.
So then the question is, what kind of transport do you want? Razorbacks, Land Raiders, or the Corvus flier? Razorbacks are good for MSU and range, Land Raiders are good for field control and brute-force, and the flier is actually really good anti-infantry and a passable anti-vehicle supplement (sumps up the deathwatch well I think). You can't get away with putting mixed unit types in razorbacks. Terminators are good for land raider squads (crusaders especially), and you can do anything with the corvus.
The Start Collecting box is good (good value too), but the dreadnought can be superfluous. It's not as fast as the other vehicles (especially the flier), and leaving units behind in the backfield is dangerous.
So make two 5-man squads from the box, one ranged-ish, and one melee. There's no real "killer app" besides the frag cannon, which is great anti-infantry and anti-vehicle.

>Fabius frowned. ‘You are taunting me.’

>‘No. Not at all.’ Trazyn joined him at the edge of the platform. ‘They were almost destroyed, you know. I saved them. By rights, you should thank me.’

>‘You stole them, you mean.’

>‘I am no thief.’ Trazyn sounded almost insulted. He waved a hand. Hard-light holograms shimmered into being all around them. Images of startling vividness swam about Fabius, and he read in them a secret history. Scenes from impossible antiquity, prompting memories dredged from his consumption of aeldari texts. ‘I am a seeker into mystery, like yourself. I have catalogued the fall of civilisations, and the birth of empires.’

>‘One does not preclude the other.’

>‘If you could see what I see– if you could perceive the beating heart of time, as I perceive it– you would not question my methodology, Fabius Bile. You would have no more questions at all.’ Trazyn gestured with grandiose elegance. ‘You pluck open flesh, to learn its secrets. I do the same with time. I chop out the mechanisms of occurrence and study them at my leisure. This history of this galaxy is an open book to me, and my collection is the story of everything.’

>Fabius turned slowly, taking in the ghostly images as they drifted thick upon the air. ‘And what is the point of recording such a story, if there is no one to appreciate it?’

>‘No one to appreciate it yet.’ Trazyn’s metal fingers tapped against his staff. ‘I am no more unique in this universe than you. We are outliers, true, but not the whole of the species. And when my folk awake from their slumber of aeons, I shall have a story to tell them.’ He gave a rattling laugh. ‘I doubt they will appreciate it. Or even listen. But one does not expect gratitude from the masses.’ He glanced at his silent servants. ‘Dull-witted things.’

-"Fabius : Clonelord" novel

So Trazyn is not a bad guy. He is just a storyteller with no audience.

You are honestly retarded if you take any of that at face value.

Prior to their model ranges both Thousand Sons and Death Guard only had 1 special character and 1 unique unit each, same as EC and WE are now.

Both WE and EC have more than enough 30k units and other units in lore to base a new model range off of and if you don't think GW is going to capitalize on that (especially with the popularity of WE) then you're fucking stupid.

>‘Yes.’ Fabius studied the ancient being. ‘How long have you been here?’

>‘Longer than your race has possessed the ability to stand upright.’

>‘You are immortal.’

>‘I am persistent.’ Trazyn indicated one of the hard-light images. ‘My race made a habit of persistence, in the Time of Flesh. When faced with extinction, we chose instead a new way.’ The image swelled, and Fabius saw something. A strange entity of starlight and malice. It watched as legions of living things marched into great furnace-like structures. The creatures were blurry, as if all memory of them had been eradicated, and all that was left was…an absence. But what emerged from the burning heart of the edifices was easily recognisable.

>‘Thus Necrontyr gave way to Necron, and we enslaved ourselves to infinity,’ Trazyn rasped. ‘Look at it, Fabius– is it not wonderful and horrible.’ The star-being rose, vaguely humanoid in shape blazing with searing cosmic energies. Awful and breathtaking to behold. ‘They ate stars, you know. And worlds, besides. But we had the last laugh, in the end.’ Trazyn chuckled. ‘We bound them in cages of harsh reality, and used them to power our world-engines.’

>‘Like this place, you mean,’ Fabius said. ‘One of those things is here?’

>‘Yes. Buried deep and safe. The crown jewel of my collection, and the source of its power.’ Trazyn laughed again. ‘The source of my power.’

Trazyn has a full C'tan in his collection....?

Sternguard do have better boltguns, but running deathwatch veterans with their stock bolters is not something people do unless they're ablative wounds. And if range is an issue (which it shouldn't be given the fact that most of the deathwatch ethos is for close range - something they do much better than the sternguard, especially in mixed squads), they can take stalker bolters to have 2 shots from 30". They aren't locked into the same loadout either, and can have terminators (and VVs and Bikers) in the same squad for bonuses to boot. It's not cut-and-dry except for the points value.

I said for the average guardsman.

Even with Oldcrons whenever the focus shifted from helpless techpriest 865 or average meat shield 723 you had Inquisitors, Generals and Marines that reacted with "They are Necrons. They do this and this, and you must do this to fight them".

Even in Ciaphas Cain which has an almost perfect rendition of the spooky oldcron after some books Cain knows what they are, how to behave etc. They only thing he miss is their background.

In the end Oldcrons and Newcrons are almost the same, with the difference that the first are seen as the monster of an horror movie while the second as an alien race in a sci-fi movie.

It's just a difference of perspective, really.

Most admech still have organic parts and still have a soul, and some AI can also have souls, Necrons don't have souls anymore theirs were devoured by the C'tan. >> No.56904013

They always looked like that. A higher focus on the egyptian-esque stuff, perhaps, and more "out-there" designs as part of not having to make beakie-tier lumps of metal any more, but they were always "metal golems with neon lights plastered on them".
Not Tyranid or Old Ones tier incomprehensibility any more (except insofar as they relate to the C'Tan, which is now just part of their lore rather than all of it), but they've got the same kind of incomprehensibility (or inscrutability) that the Eldar do in their more mysterious aspects, and more.
The warriors are literally mindless. Of course they aren't mindless drones with only an omnicidal motivation, but that is the change that was required to turn them from Oldcron to Newcron. They've kept the aesthetic creepiness of the mass of them being mindless and (near) omnicidal, but as I've said, you can't have the entire faction be mindless without duplicating the Tyranids' function in the lore, and it's a matter of taste whether the setting would be better with two mindless factions that just kill everything , or with two "elder races" like they've made Newcrons a partner to the Eldar.

It's not explain why. The Necrontyr are not the Necrons. Why would the fate of a Necrontyr soul affect the digital copy?

>Generals and Marines that reacted with "They are Necrons. They do this and this, and you must do this to fight them".

Other than their methods of war, the Inquisition and other faction knew nothing about the Olcrons and their motives.

The Imperium now knows everything about the Necrons from their language, motives, technology, etc.

The souls part about the Necrons is one of the most nonsense ridden and plot-hole filled part of their backgrounds. And this is true for both oldcrons and newcrons, starting with how the C'tan in the beginngin ate "bioelectricity" but for some reason it worked exactly like souls and not at all like electricity on a level that GW itself confused them multiple times, then continuing with the C'tan that were masters of the material realm for which the warp was anathema but ate souls that are warp things, and beyond.

Basically the entire thing make no sense if you try to analyze close enought and it's easier to just make your own headcanon about how it work.

A Necron can function without engrams. Also it doesn't remove the engrams, it just scrambles them.

I know, right? The issue here that pisses me off is GW's refusal to fix the plotholes in Necron lore and expand on what little lore the Newcrons have.

Over the course of several centuries he defeats the Dark Eldar Archon Vraesque in cursed Shaa-dom, the Emperor’s Champion of the Black Templars at Veilfate, and the Ork Warboss Two-klaws at Octarius Sigma.

>Eventually, on a nameless moon near Damnos, Lucius is cut down by the shape-shifting Necron duellist known only as the Phasing Sword. Not even the Necron’s body of living metal can prevent the Slaaneshi champion’s strange possession-curse from taking hold, however, for it takes a cold pride in its victory, and that is the seed of its undoing. Hell, in their short story (that matches 8e meta exactly, oddly enough) a bunch of Electropriests completely demolished a Deathwatch Kill Team and their Captain, and he actually did "see the light" the Corpuscarii talk about. > He felt the miracle of the Motive Force course through his body. The insulating properties of ceramite were irrelevant now; the lightning was too powerful for that, less an assault than an exalted state of being. His suit connections haywired, and short electrical pulses caused his body to spasm. His bionic eye exploded in its socket, its flesh counterpart simply melting, dribbling down his face before the jelly steamed from his boiling skin. Somewhere in amongst the flurry of impulses shorting through his brain, he remembered to scream. He felt agony, bloody rapture, but through it all he could see. The lightning connected him to the infinite circuit that was the universe, and opened his eyes to the truth that Valtohm did indeed have a blessing to bestow.

Now that the loyalist conscripts have their unit size cut in half, fail order 50% of the time, have to go out of their own book for leadership, pay reserve points to come back, AND are also one point more expensive, cultists are better in every conceivable way and one of the better points buys in the game atm. Kraken and Kronos are the two strongest fleets because they buff a certain playstyle to the max
>Kraken: fast melee bugs
>Kronos: shooty Bugs

The others are
>Gorgon: Melee Damage
>Leviathan/Jormungandr: Trade flexibility for durability
>Hydra: Swarms
>Behemoth: Deepstrike Spam
If you plan on going for a VERY shooty heavy list, go Kronos, and spam the fuck out of Dakkafexes, Exocrines, T-fexes and Hive Guards. Your melee units will only exist to screen your shooty bugs.

Kraken is obviously best suited for Genestealers, but it can work for big bugs too. The important thing to note is that EVERYTHING RUNS which is why taking guns on anything but your standard backline (I recommend taking 6 hive guard every game, no matter the fleet) is a waste of points.

Gorgon is like Kraken, only focusing on damage over speed. However, since Kraken synergizes with the best melee unit in the dex (stealers), its usually better for running melee nids with. Nidzilla can work, though.

Behemoth and Hydra are both bad picks for you. The former is only a good fleet if you spam deepstrikers (at least 2 trygons and 2 flyrants), while Hydra does literally nothing for your monsters.

Finally Leviathan and Jormungandr are both pretty decent for Nidzilla, since they favor durability, which can be useful for monsters.

Leviathan is more reliable in the long game (6+++ FNP against shooting, psychic, melee), but harder to pull off since you need a shitton of synapse creatures.

Jormungandr is straight up amazing vs shooting, but you take alot of sacrifices to make it work. It limits your mobility highly, forcing you to spam dakkamonsters, while being less effective at shooting than Kronos. Since falling back exists, be ready for your monsters to get absolutely rekt on your opponents turn when they pull out of combat.
Also realize that, if your opponent play's a melee army himself, you're literally shooting yourself in the foot for taking jormungandr.

Try them all and see for yourself
