I havent been to my lgs since the locals started using combo decks but the new rules really gave me the strength I needed to try out EDH again. I've been at home brewing and practicing my aim on my old edh decks and I haven't been this excited to play magic in a while. I've gotten to the point where I can confidently knock 80 cards off a deck so thats 40 damage, perfect for edh.
I can't wait to wipe the smiles off of the bullies faces and send them and their combo decks packing :)

I'll be honest, mine is a mess too. You have some light Voltron, curving Hero's Blade into Yasova gives you a 3 turn clock and enough power to steal most things at the table. You have the theft permanence of Bazaar Trader and Conjurer's Closet, sac outlets like Goblin Bombardment, some general green goodstuff and ramp, a little counter magic, even some land destruction once people started playing Homeward Path.

How fucked is my group? Is the game pretty balanced with 4 players, no matter the power levels? You could just allow proxies, and find out what level of power people like to play at. New guy and poor kid will never shell out for expensive stuff unless they find out they like it too. honestly sounds like your group will do pretty well. the try hard will make your group evolve and keep the meta interesting but you will need to set some ground rules with him more than likely about money spent. the new player will will be unpredictable and will keep you on your toes. the super poor guy can be happy with a precon or two and will make use of dollar bin tech which is always fun. gimmick decks are fine too and will add the above by playing interesting strats.

the biggest hurdle is going to be making sure the try hard doesnt go full turn 2 combo but if he is a reasonable person you should just be able to talk to him about it and he will understand.

It depends on what your try to do with that money. Making a monobrown artifact deck that can crush people and consistently win turn 4 or 5 is much harder to do than with yisan, a deck that you could build to do that for about $100.

Price point isn't the issue, you have to build towards a specific power level that the group wants. To do that you have to find out what power level the group (not you, the group) is after in the first place.

My group was discussing this yesterday, because one of our friends will always win considering he's the most skillfull and also has the better decks. What we do is, we switch up decks every once in a while, so that eventual newbies can play finely tuned shit and get a better grasp, more experient players can get a feel of newbies decks and give them recs and so on.

It works pretty well even though I hate it because I always get color combinations I hate (azorius, boros, almost anything with white, really)

So I got Commander Anthology a few days ago, and I'm thinking of gutting my Mina/Denn Landfall deck and converting it into a Trostani deck. Problem is my decktism means I'm gonna have to make a new Gruul deck. I could just turn the Mina/Denn deck into Angry Omnath but that just feels boring.

i dont, i have a gisa and geralf zombie tribal deck that i built when i first started commander and its boring as fuck. i dont even remember the last time i played it

ive learn that tribal is just a way for people who suck at deck building to feel like they made something good when all they are really doing is jamming everything they see with a creature type into a deck and calling it a day. a tribal subtheme is acceptable but full tribal stupid and boring

Lands that sac themselves to get more lands, such as Blighted Woodland and Myriad Landscape, as well as Khalni Heart Expedition, are fantastic. You can afford to run colorless sources due to being two-color and fetching more basics than normal, so right after Omnath comes down, you can spend all of your mana next turn (or on the same turn if you wait a bit to play him) solely on those activated abilities to vomit out 5/5s. Nissa, Vital Force is incredible - it's almost impossible to attack into her effectively when she ticks up, and her emblem can singlehandedly let you draw half your deck. Her -2 isn't half-bad, either.

As for what to spend your fuckton of mana on, I recommend some regrowth spells like Season's Past and Wildest Dreams to get back your sac lands (this is dependent on how many you put in, I'm running 7, but Past and Dreams are quite good regardless), Animist's Awakening for a big dump all at once, and perhaps Journeyer's Kite to directly fish basics up.

The best thing about building him at first is that if you're on a budget, you can quite literally just jam basics till you hit 99 cards and it'll still be alright. I'm considering upping my land count right now simply because I sometimes find myself spending all my resources just trying to draw more land cards in general - they're just THAT good in this deck.

In general it depends on your opponents. Wizards has printed absolutely absurd graveyard hate cards that compared to any other kind of hate, and it can take a skilled pilot to try and win through them.

Your opponents actually have to put these cards in their decks though. If they don't a lot of graveyard strats get pretty degenerate with no real way to stop them, and it's not that hard to do. It would be like playing a deck where only you have removal, and nobody else understood the concept.

That's not totally true. It depends on how much people pack grave hate. And if multiple people at a table all do something with their graveyard, the whole table doesn't always have answers for each player. So someone can get Bogged/Tormod's Crypt'd, which would leave the doors wide open for the next person.
Obviously it really is meta dependent, but if you're playing at a table of people who all 'know what they are doing', odds are that half of them do something with their own graveyard, too.
