It's the probability, not the odds. Odds are a ratio, P/(1-P). Whereas the probability is just P.

So for example a 3 to 1 odds is a 25% probability of the event occurring.

The left column is the probability that you failed a charge in 7th edition based upon how far away the enemy unit was from your charging unit.

The middle column is how the same thing, but taking into account that in 8th edition you only have to get within 1" to have a successful charge.

The right column is the probability of failing the charge if you also use your +1d6" 'advance' movement to move towards the unit you are charging, effectively giving you a 3d6" charge instead of a 2d6" charge.

I'm just trying to be useful here.

Actually starting to like the charge changes after calming down a bit. Only having to get within 1'' rather than B2B means no more failed charges because of a fraction of a milimeter between the bases, which is the most frustrating part about failing charges since forever.
And still moving foward even when you fail the charge is great. It makes it way more likely to at least be in CC sooner, even if you get charged.

I think keeping Grav as the sort of thing that has a high volume of fire and is designed to slowly glance things down is the better call.

I think >>53014388 has the most elegant and simple solution. Always wounding on a 4+ makes it pretty mediocre against light infantry compared to other heavy weapons, even if it has an AP of -2 or -3. But conversely, it'll wound all of these MCs and vehicles with ease.

That said, the difference would be that while a Lascannon would be a single blast for d6 wounds, a Gravcannon would be a handful of shots for one mortal wound each.

Say it's only 4 shots, you're looking at maybe 1-2 wounds that get past all the saves afterwards. The benefit compared to a Lascannon would be that steady, reliable damage compared to larger bursts.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Codex Astartes" bullshit that's going on in the d6 system right now. Puretides' teachings deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine copy of The A'rt o'f W'a'r on planet J'apa'n for 2 Ultramarines (that's about 20,000 marines of any other chapter) and have been reading with it for almost 2 centuries now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with the tactical wisdom of Puretide. Tau commanders spend years mastering Puretides' teachings and use up to a million memory techniques to produce the finest officers known galaxy wide. Puretide was thrice as smart as Roboute Guilliman and thrice as wise for that matter too. Anyone who masters Puretides' teaching can master an alien Civilization's codex better then guys who invented it. I'm pretty sure Puretide could easily defeat the entire XIII legion with a single fire warrior cadre.

Ever wonder why great crusade era-Imperium never bothered conquering T'au? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Puretide and his tactical mastery even though he wasn't born for 8,000 years. Even in Damocles campaign, Vindicates targeted the Tau who had read the A'rt o'f W'a'r first because their strategy was feared and respected. So what am I saying? The A'rt o'f w'a'r is simply the best book that the galaxy has ever seen, and thus, require better rules in the d6 system.

Here is the special rule I propose for Tau: All Tau units may fire twice in the shooting phase. All Tau units may make snap shots at full ballistic skill.

Now that seems a lot more representative of the tactical power of the A'rt o'f W'a'r in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Tau need to be better in Warhammer, see my new stat block.

This is why I feel that there isn't going to be a loss of attacks because of pistols in the shooting phase. If normal marines still keep their pistol in their default wargear, then the +1 attack for assault marines has to come from somewhere to give them something in the baseline to set them apart: either it being the pistol+ccw combo or having 2 attacks base.

Also I don't know why you don't see value in being able to kill models in the shooting phase well before they can retaliate.

Because he's T4 with no invul save in close combat. The Boss is at least T5 with an extra wound, attack and WS. Sure he can hide at the back, but there's literally nothing he does that the Warboss wouldn't do better. a 5++ re-rollable at range isn't going to save his arse when he only has 2 wounds.

Plus I'd just assumed you'd want him riding on the Stompa to give it a 5++ save.

I mean, good luck and all, one Ork to another, I just can't see this ending particularly well.

>> No.53017194

The local ork player has taught me bad habits with him destroying my armies in close combat.
Apparently he's been wrecking face in our ranked games too, and he runs his everything into close combat asap.
He has about 10 trukks full of boys though.
I figured the Mek and Nobz can go into the stompa while the warboss and boyz go into the wagon.
Also I made an error, the Wagon is not supposed to be dedicated.

Scatter laser might just end up nerfed for the fact that it's a heavy weapon that people like to take on a Relentless platform, and if Universal special rules are gone so is that.

Jetbikes would still do a lot of damage with S 6 Heavy 4 guns at BS 3, but it wouldn't be quite as strong.

I can't decide which flavor of super advanced technologically superior race I want to go.

Should I go for the race that is so super advanced that they transcended humanity, enslaved their own gods, and conquered death?

or should I go for the race of cyborgs who don't really understand their technology anymore, who sing praises to their Omnissiah in binaric cants that are actually ancient lines of code that make them run better?

Both flavors are pretty fucking cool.

Pls help.

S-Surely they let him just work on Robutt Girlyman's codex the entire time. In all seriousness though, while he did shit on 6E-7E Nids, those editions weren't good to ANY melee in general, so it's 6 in one, a half dozen in another when it comes to why Nids sucked.

NuGW realizes nobody wants to play 6 Flyrants - The List anymore.

If Tyranids get bad rules for a third time now, with the advent of social media and community interaction, Cruddace will definitely get shitcanned. You can already see the fires starting to stir in the facebook comments on the Charge phase leaks from today. Someone asked if we could get a sneak peak of xenos profiles and they responded asking what people want to see - overwhelmingly the response was people asking for Genestealers, Hormagaunts, and/or Tyranids in general. Robin Cruddace is the guy who ruined Tyranids the last 8 years. He's a manchild anti-fanboy who allegedly actively nerfs their codexes because he's one of those low-IQ mongs who can't understand the appeal of nids and developed a grudge after they destroyed him in tournaments way back in the day before he got on the dev team.

>> No.53018541

im sure they'll see a general buff with the changes to melee and initiative. also, i think theyre taking a leaf from sigmars book with a kind of unspoken 'rule of fun' so most rules will add things, instead of taking them away.

i reckon synapse, instead of being mandatory, will instead be an aura of bonus effects, the only penalty for being outside of synapse being losing those bonuses.

>Ask for plastic
>How about resin?

Why not just resolve them as a bunch of shots? Like, a small blast is now 4 shots. If they all hit, that's like a really well placed template, if they all miss, that's like a badly placed one, all values in between are possible. Does have a weird thing where you can hit a single model multiple times, but you can solve that with a rule which says 'this weapon can not score more hits than there are models in the target unit' or something. Possibly add a rule that hits can overflow onto a nearby unit if there aren't enough in the original one, to represent really big blasts hitting several units or aiming at a character standing among the models of a unit (if it's true that they can't join units now).

>Seriously, being able to dakka and choppy in the same phase while in combat is fantastic.

But it isn't in the same phase, it's in the shooting phase. Also, it looks like it's replacing the +1 attack for having a pistol.

The current version is you get to shoot before you charge, then you get to make 4 x S 4 attacks. Next turn, you get 3 x S 3 attacks.

New version is (probably) a shot before you charge, then 2 x S 4 attacks. Next turn you can't shoot because it's not your turn. Turn after, or if you get charged you get a shot (S 4, but presumably using BS, so only hitting on a 5+) followed by 2 x S 3 attacks.

That's worse than before. You will hit marines more often with the new WS rules, but it works in reverse too. Plus the marines get shooting attacks in close combat too (and unlike orks, don't lose one of their attacks because they never had the bonus for 2 CCWs) and they are twice as likely to hit as you.

Hopefully, they took all this into account and balanced orks by making them significantly cheaper, more mobile and/or more survivable. But just going on the partial information given so far, I see no reason to be optimistic.

>> No.53019249

Half as likely to hit, only useable in your player turn?

How much of an issue do you have with tiny fiddly parts which break really easily? Because the mechanicus models are fucking covered in them.

Really hope that there is another imperium civil war and a good background justification for all the imperial vs. imperial battles. Kind of sick of 'training exercise' or 'random accusations of heresy' (which neither group are actually guilty of because no imperial player will ever play the baddies) as excuses.

Is he responsible for the whole 'they absolutely don't have any internal factions or individuality whatsoever but also they have special characters because I was made to include them' thing? Also the retarded space whale sub-light gravity beam thing?
