There isn't a formal list, afaik. Kakophani could be used as Noise Marines and a Primarch could be used as a Daemon Prince.

Several Legion-specific units don't really have a 40k equivalent.
The bigger issue is in the weapons department. There are two main issues:
1) Several 30k weapons don't exist in 40k (Volkites, mostly)
2) 30k lists can take many, many more heavy/special weapons. Many more than can be used in an equivalent squad in 40k.
For example, there is no 40k marine squad that can take 10 flamers or meltaguns, and devastators can only take 4 heavy weapons whereas a 30k heavy support squad can take up to 10.

Also, 30k terminators can mix and match weapons, but 40k (loyalist) terminators cannot. That won't affect you much, since you play CSMs, but I feel like I should note it.

Most vehicles have chaos versions in Imperial Armour Volume 13, but you cannot take any jetbikes or land speeders at all.

What other units in particular to you have questions about?

I've been getting back into playing 40k and am i the only one that thinks the allies system is ridiculous, especially for a game that should be trying to steer itself away from min-maxing.
It breaks the game with cheesy combinations and ruins the unique qualities of the armies themselves, why invest in any army when you can just google "da bes" guys from each (yes i know it has limitations but still)
Was on the fence about playing competitively in local tournaments but now I'm completely put off after hearing that most of the people i will be playing against will be running ridiculous tau/eldar armies.

I'm pretty new to 40k and would like to make a nazi themed army. Is the imperial guard the best army for this or is it space marines since they are more elite and tech heavy?

It'd take awhile to catalogue everything. I've got several armies and most of them are large, so I couldn't even begin to figure out a cost (especially since AotE would probably devalue most of it).
I've got:
Sisters of Battle
Valhallans
Vostroyans
Cadians (metal army and plastic army)
Space Marines (many, many models, much of it unbuilt)
Chaos Daemons
Chaos Marines
Night Lords (30k)
Orks
Dark Eldar (3e and modern models)
Necrons (original metal and some plastic, but nothing from 5e or later)
Grey Knights
Various RT bits, inquisitors, ambull, adventurers, etc

If the rumors pan out about 30k remaining nearly the same I'll probably keep the Night Lords and Vostroyans (to use as Solar Auxilia). I'd probably keep the Sisters as well.

This is probably the most astounding part of it. It's at least somewhat understandable that UMs are consider the epitome of Space Marines, because of the Codex and all, but I'd think the view that they're basically celebrities to be envied and worshipped rather than just a baseline would be limited mainly to Chapters with close genetic and cultural ties to them. Instead, though, Ward took the opportunity to basically say "lol, your Chapter's lore, culture, history, and Primarch don't really matter, the important thing is that they have anxiety over not being Ultraclones, and really want Girlyman to be their Ultradad".

Ward's UM fetish been discussed to death at this point though, so I'm not even sure why I'm saying this.

They're not bad per se, but you could just build a more points efficient unit with aTartaros Terminator Command Squad that are also equipped with Phoenix Spears.

How does this look as a "slottable" setup for a melee blob? Idea is that the Techmarine might keep the LRC mobile and survive a bit longer while also being a pretty potent support model for melee combat.

Only non-CAD Detachments and Formations allowing Crusader squads is the Wrathful Crusade formation from Gathering Storm 1 (which includes new Celestine, some Militarum Tempestus and Greyfax) and the new Castellans of the Imperium detachments, which allows Crusader squads and actually only allows Black Templar characters out of all Space Marine uniques.

Maxed out Crusade is pretty good, since you get Zealot on EVERYTHING and especially get a Zealot Celestine on top of getting to re-roll charges and Furious Charge on a 10"+ charge so basically what Black Templar Chapter Tactics should've had.

Castellans can be fun if combined with LRC dedicated transport, since it has a chance to revive them. Getting free Hatred is also alright.

How's this looking as a tournament list?

Not sure what to change about it and what to switch out for some alternatives. Icarus Array/Phosphor Blaster and Plasma instead of Grav are the hottest considerations.

The tourney also has a "most fun to play against" rating that everyone can put their vote in afterwards that directly influences the overall ranking of a player. What are my chances of getting off nicely there, only taking into account the list.

Any of you anons having difficulty getting your shit painted lately? Been having a lot of trouble getting motivated so show me some of your sexy models thread to get me in the mood. I hate having unpainted models :(

I posted this before as a joke, but I actually need help with it.
There's a WAAC Eldar player at my store who does stupid shit like bring multiple Wraithknights into a 1000-point game. I play FunTau and have for years, so I have no clue how to build a WAAC list or how to use Riptides.

So I'm trying to make the most cancerous Tau list I can think of. Does this look correct? Are the FW Battlesuits worth it? Should I change up the loadout on anything?

Necron Obelisks have four little struts on them. I seem to have misplaced them. I should have just fucking put them on when I had the chance, they might be in my bits box, but then we'd have to get into all Praetorians that have Lych Guard bodies and the overly complicated and way too easily broken Ghost Ark and Tomb Blade kits. That's all before we get into painting, which I'm horrible at. All in all I'm never going to have a nice finished collection, I'll always just have a scrap heap's worth of Crons. Honestly not a very good casual list. And not in the sense that it isn't strong (it's a casual list after all). But in the sense that it includes annoying gimmicks (orikan + lychguard, the god shackle conclave) that will cause you to stomp some opponents if they don't have the tools for those gimmicks.

Casual lists shouldn't be designed to make your opponent hate themselves. Take some immortals or ghost arks, or maybe some annihilation barges, and be a nice person!

Don't tune down your list to get bonus tournament points, do it to avoid being an ass. I went to a tournament where a guy who cheesed far above what was anticipated still got high scores because he wasn't an ass. On the other hand, I went to a tournament where someone brought a relatively soft list, but people complained endlessly about it. Ask some participants and or the TO if your army is fine.

Well, Black Templars as a whole have a shitty Chapter Tactic and, trying to keep things fluffy but playable, depend on Crusader squads, Land Raiders and some way to support your melee, so a Chaplain for Zealot. I was pretty much just worried about having 6 heavy Grav cannons in the list, since a majority of my meta plays Space Marine variants and even the Ork player has a list consisting entirely of Walkers and bikes and will be vulnerable to it. Hell, even the Tyranid guy uses Warriors and Flyrants.

Though considering I still need to go and pick up another Kataphron squad and ask if the "no Allies" clause in the tournament poster's rules even affects codependent armies like AdMech which would be utterly retarded, I might as well ask what the owner thinks about the list.

I only actually own one Riptide and no other Monstrous battlesuits. I like the way it looks and you need one for a Retaliation Cadre or Rapid Insertion Force. I'll be loaning the rest from a friend, he owns too many Tau units including a Manta which he painted like shit.

Like I said, I normally play FunTau which is why I'm not really sure how to field the Riptides. I just don't think gunlines, tank columns, and air spam are going to cut it against WAAC Eldar.

So i'm working on a iron hands army and i'm working towards something like this right now.
Want to try to keep it fluffy and casual.
Any pointers or things i should change about it?
Are 3 Vindicator and 2 thunderfire cannons to much for casual games?
I have heard they can be devastating but haven't really seen them that much in play.

I know that the best way to play a fluffy and decent Black Templar army is to not play anything that is fluffy for them. I was trying to make it somehow, in any way, possible to maybe use a Land Raider for once and not make it useless the moment a Tactical squad looks at them.

To respond to another anon asking about Autocannons for IG. I agree that they don't really do much for me. Due to their stats they are very flexible weapons. On paper they are decent at taking off hull points on AV13 or lower and they are good at wounding MCs and they are not that wasteful to shoot at infantry units.

However, they never do much in my games. They may take a hull point here or there, and sometimes they do a wound to a Monstrous Creature, but the wounds are usually saved. Lasguns and Punishers usually end up doing the most to MCs in my games. The reason I take Autocannons is to put in the Infantry Blobs because they are rarely wasted there and make sure the unit is almost never out of targets. I prefer Multi-lasers personally, but those only come on Chimeras and Sentinels. If an Infantry blob could take a Multi-laser I would be ecstatic.

FW's IG variants are from entirely different books altogether. In other words, I'm still taking a "Space Marine Tactical Squad" from Codex: Space Marines, which is allowed by the Castellans rules, but it doesn't say I can take a "Death Korps of Kriege Infantry Platoon," so I can't take it.

RAW I don't think it's allowed, but in casual play I'd sure as hell allow it.

No one has ever accused the Imperium of being intelligent.
In meta terms, the IG allowed horned beastmen back in Rogue Trader, but in a White Dwarf introducing Abhuman Doctrines back when Doctrines were a thing, they allowed non-horned beastmen. The reasoning presented was that non-horned beastmen are "stable" enough abhumans to be treated like second (or third) class citizens, much like other abhumans. However, it specifically said beastmen with horns weren't allowed to join (and are probably killed on sight) because of the chaos reasoning I mentioned earlier.

That was the last time they were mentioned, as far as I know.
And that was late 3e/early 4e.

What would be a good Chapter Tactics to use for a boar-themed space marine force? Boars were occasionally used in medieval heraldry (Richard III comes to mind) since wild boars are so damn tough and dangerous. I want to run a SM chapter like that.
I'm looking for something knightly, but also aggressive with an emphasis on solo combat and heroic exploits. Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Space Wolves all seem to fit the bill pretty well, but I could see it working with FW's Mantis Warrior tactics (with them as hunters) as well.

What do you think?
Ideas for non-silly sounding names also appreciated, as are colour schemes

I do like aspects of the Space Wolves, but the Blood Claws (and variants) rub me the wrong way for this theme.
Being able to run "vetarans" and terminators with a huge variety of weapons is just great, as is the option to take wolves (which I would fluff as hunting dogs; knights kill boars, they don't make friends with them).
Then again, Wolf Guard CAN take bikes...

Hows this look WE list look for fighting Tau? Plan is crash the Lord and Spawn into lines early with a mutliassault and smash the DP into their Riptide if possible. Turn two drop the Raptors on their Broadsides and lock them up in melee/kill with melta. Turn three at the latest the Bezerkers kill whatever has managed to get away.

If I were to make a DE/harlequin army, I would make something like

Webway portal armor of misery archon, lvl 2 shadow seer with mask of secrets, lvl 2 shadow seer, and either medusa or blaster wielding truborne all in a raider.

They drop down and everything with in 6" of the raider gets -4ld and everything in 12" gets -2ld. Raiders are actually about 7inch long so this is a bigger area then it sounds. Unload one shadowseer and the medusa/truborne, Then use psychic shriek to decimate, at -4ld they are looking to do 5 or 6 wounds to 10ld unites. Medusa put down a bunch of s4 ap3 templates or truborne to blow up a vehicle. You can hopefully soulburst for more damage.

I would add two troupes, with 6players all with caresses in starweavers. Also add a grotesquerie for some tough hard hitting grotesques that also -1ld to everything within 12".

I'm thinking about getting into 40k with chaos space marines and I like the idea of lascannons. I was thinking I could make a warband that specialized in laser weaponry, maybe they broke into an armory somewhere.

If I'm reading this right I could take iron warriors which lets me have obliterator troops (who shoot lascannons), lascannon havoc spam, and I could model cultists to have lasguns instead of autoguns since they have the same stats anyway. Also lasboat predators and helbrute with TL-lascannon.

On a scale of ass to 10 how viable is this idea competitive-wise? I don't want to be some master tournament player but I would like to at least not lose every game.

I didn't see anything on embarking in reserve when I looked over it after my friend asked me, and I still don't now. As far as I know It has always been that if a unit can't start on a dedicated transport then you need to deploy them on the field and spend turn 1 embarking.

What I am saying is the problem there is that it requires the three to be in a squadron together to cloudstrike. So you either need to have a way to put dedicated transports into a squadron, or a way to put units onto a vehicle in reserve/pregame, or play apocalypse. If either of the first two are possible, I have spent half an hour trying to find it and found no mention of it, and previous experience and time spent discussing getting SoB units into flyers and assault transports tells me you can't do it (though faction was an additional obstacle there).
