What's the biggest fuck up you've ever seen a BBEG do?

>BBEG launches surprise attack from the north
>Allies with the barbarian tribes and marches on the empire
>Roundly smashes the empire at every turn
>Marches around the land, pillaging and looting for years
>Bleeds the empire dry and eventually forces a final fight
>Wins, crushes the last remaining army of note the empire had
>Doesn't march on their capital
>Just keeps faffing about instead
>Loses

>After working to track down their herald of the apocalypse, turn on the news
>Hunter wasn't recovering at base

>Executed them live on TV
>The entire world is now aware of the existence of the supernatural
>VALKYRIE deathsquads roam the streets
>The Barrett Commission walk through government and military departments like the Gestapo

>Keeps faffing about
He had no real means of taking Rome, buddy. He had a few good Carthaginian troops and other than that mostly second rate barbarian mercenaries. He was also isolated due to Carthaginian reinforcements not arriving (more on that later).

The biggest part of his "faffing about" was the fact that he had to return to Carthage, to defend it. Because Hannibal was doing fine and dandy, but the Carthaginians were losing on every single other front. They were losing in Spain (which Hannibal had more less built up as a power base for his family), they were losing in Sicily and they were losing at sea (hence why Hannibal's reinforcements never arrived).

The thing is that even Hannibal's genius could not save decadent Carthage from its own faults. He did what he did in spite of Carthage, while Rome won because it is Rome (not because of individual genius). Perhaps things would've been different had Hannibal been king.

Correct.
>He did what he did in spite of Carthage, while Rome won because it is Rome (not because of individual genius).
I'm going to stop you right here.
Rome almost lost BECAUSE it was Rome, and Rome was big on muh honorabu combat at the time.
Scipio saved Rome by proving that his 'cowardly' tactics, which played into every weakness Hannibal had (low resources, no backup, couldn't engage on his own terms) were effective and that if he didn't use them they'd waste literal armies and valuable resources that could tip the favor toward Hannibal if they weren't spent well. When the dudes in charge finally pulled their heads out of respective asses (especially after losing some fucking humiliating defeats), Rome started winning again.
Hannibal COULD technically have marched on Rome, it just would have been a very dangerous attempt more than likely to blow up in his face and it would have meant the end of Carthage if he failed. Even he couldn't risk it.

That people assume the statedly ultraparanoid person will trust them since they have fought the same enemy at some point really baffles me.

Yes but that's also what saved it when it began to take its head out of its own ass.

>Scipio saved Rome by proving that his 'cowardly' tactics...
That's Fabius.

>Hannibal COULD technically have marched on Rome, it just would have been a very dangerous attempt...
I think it would have been suicidal and he didn't do it. He couldn't have taken Rome proper. The city was heavily fortified and many cities in Italy were siding with Hannibal because he was on the lose. Tied down under Rome's walls, he would have been promptly flanked or encircled.

>Literally had never stopped him before
He couldn't take Nola in three attempts, I don't see how he could have taken Rome. He couldn't get Capua back when it was retaken by Rome and he had only "conquered" it because the city had defected all by itself. Hannibal and his army were shit at siege warfare.

Hannbial was kept isolated in Italy. His Brothers tried to come to him with reinforcements, but were defeated.
Alone he did not have the numbers would enable the siege of cities.

And as >>50447893 pointed out, Rome pushed Charthagos shit in on every other front.

Honestly, it's far more likely he would have simply starved; his army was fed by spoiling the countryside, he couldn't afford to stay still very long.
