So I found out about a 10+ AOS group at my FLGS.

Now I can finally finish my stormcast

Same here actually, the only LGS near my university where they like to get down and funky with AoS.

New player and i'm currently constructing my skelly army. Managed to get it all for a steal, too so I'm pretty excited to get spooky

>> No.46620728

>Who or what are your dudes?
Have come up with a back story for the whole stormhost yet
>What's the story or background for your guys?
Jest for a couple characters. I came up with a story about my Knight-Venator though. In short he's was a elven craft smith who asked to be reforged in return for crafting weapons.
>What models make up your army?
Starter set, and a bunch of models that make up the skyborne slayers
>Have you done any conversions?
not yet but I might try to use bright green/blue wire or yarn to make azyr stings for my judicators

Just remember to tell the antisummoner whingers that you can use your necro to cast vanhels double attack buff on your massive grave guard unit instead of raising 10 zombies that turn if theyd prefer.

Been working on chaos on thuderwolf conversions for over a year, all the new bits I need to finish them are damn expensive.. gonna finish off the set of 5 riders with a lord for 6 probably with skullreaper and maybe varanguard bits if I win the lottery. I'll mainly use them as a vamp lord on nightmare and blood knights, and two units of fenrisian wolves as direwolves, keeping them summoned.

Also could run them as skullcrushers, either way theyll have support from necro with skellies and wight kings converted from DE executioners and grave guard or a couple of units of chaos knights and warriors or something.

More looking forward to the wolves running with necro and skellies/graveguard though.

Fluff probably somewhere between chaos warbands linked to death magic and vampirism ... blood and blood, undying means more killling to catch the eye of the gods etc

>> No.46620957

Ahaha i'll definitely keep it in mind. In total I have only about 30 skellies, 5 black knights, that faggot Arkhan though i'd use him for a special occassion so no one gets assmad, and Wight King (krell edition). I don't know if i'll get more skells for summoning but I definitely want to mess around with how it works (depending on how people feel about it, i know there are usually homerules to curb that shit).

Whos in your Skelly army? Mixing up tomb kings and vamps?

>> No.46621005

He's cool, but the model is sorta shitty unless you like the weird overly expensive sculpt. I only wish there was an easier way to increase his chances to get more extra hits.

DESU, based on your post in a different place, stop trying to power game in such a silly way that will most likely backfire.

>> No.46621032

Arkhan is an awesome model, if you wanna get him in games without massive cheese i've seen him magnetized to fit on his mount or a plastic chaos knight steed as preferred. looks good too. There is one that has a skull/bone design too.

>> No.46621075

I haven't seen any home rules I've liked, usually summoning something isn't as game changing as a hard hitting buff. Though for big games with multiple summoners I'm thinking reduce summon roll by 1 (-1 penalty) for each summoned unit that caster currently controls. Also fits with combining zombie units to alleviate the penalty. I think it's fluffy.

Not that guy, but I'm a little worried at how people will react when I get enough skellies to summon units every turn. Right now I just have the basic starter set so I can't, but once I'm loaded with skellies that's all I'm going to be doing.

The plan is in a few months I'll throw in some Morghasts and maybe some ghosts for maximum spook. ( Or maybe just the ghosts , Morghasts are cool but they seem over the top)

I've had good games just eyeballing army size at deployment and showing my oppenent what I'm leaving in reserve to summon at some point. I resummon what dies if I get a chance, but letting your oppenent see the max you will have out at once helps them plan ahead. Reserves is kinda like part of deployment.

Most of your summoning will probably be defensive, extra wounds protecting your necros, after a few games you and your opponents won't be as worried about it.

That said, I've never bothered with summoning fuckheug monsters, but spirt hosts are fluffy and are little powerhouses and a cairn wraith or two in skelly/zombie units are really good too.

If the model is NOT being sold anymore, it will be in one of the old army PDFs

So, the Dwarf Warden Kings warscroll can be seen on his page on the GW website. Although, it is worth noting that it is pretty much the same as the one in the old army rules, it is just he doesn't have any weapon options.

20+ Crossbows with the General's Command Ability shoot 4", can shoot twice if still, and still Rend on 5+'s, so you can go either way, though 10-man handgun units are nice for a Hochland LongRifle to snipe with, same with the Master Engineer if you dabble in Ironweld, though the Steam Tank is the best War Machine.

For melee, swordsmen are nice anvil, then stick a squad of halberdiers behind them to help them kill stuff, otherwise if you like the Free Company box (scrape those moldlines with the side of an exacto knife!) then you can build them with ranged & melee weapons for more of a hybrid unit.

The Empire special State Troops Formation is a smaller version of the Free People's one.

Oh, and the handgunner/xbow box gives you like 10-12 of each weapons/arms bits, so you can stretch out the box with, say, Free Company heads and bodies.

eBay is your friend here, otherwise if you tell us your country (20-25% off wholesalers!) and general hobby XP, I/we can give more specific advice. A battalion box isn't a bad way to start, you get infantry troops, knights, and a cannon/mortar.

But yeah The Free Peoples are a great faction if you like to kitbash, & rock a nice color scheme.

I got the two-headed one, its actually a damn nice sculpt. They don't have much mold lines to clean either, but they do have these thick chunks on the bottoms of the feet you kind of have to carefully saw off.
Looks better with those tusk things on the sides off.

The only problem is if you put him in place the way he's supposed to be assembled his knuckle kind of floats. They preview it on the ground, but you kind of have to fuck with his pelvis and use a lot of greenstuff gap filling to make it work that way. But you can just have him resting his hand on a rock or something, no big deal. Pic related kind of illustrates that.

Well don't get excited, because it's not as cool as you think.

The only time your minis will show the glow is when the room is really really dark, and after being in your carrying case they wont have charged any light to show off to your friends.

So you will play your game, and all your warpstone will look like its covered in a milky matte finish, looking very amateur and frankly killing any 'cool warpstone glow' vibe where it is supposed to count during gameplay, because nobody would want to play in an environment where its dark enough to glow.

Now your game is over, and the minis have had enough time to charge light for a decent glow effect. You turn off the lights and it takes everyone a few seconds for their eyes to adjust then they see several small glows in the shapes of warpstones, and that's all they see, because they cant see the rest of the miniatures that these glows are supposed to accent. Inciting a mere 'huh' from onlookers, disappointed in what in theory was supposed to be really cool.

So don't bother. Because its not as cool as you think. Just watch duncan's video on painting thanquol and boneripper on how to paint a 'cool' warpstone glow effect and give those warpstones the proper attention they deserve instead of lazily slapping some glow in the dark paint on them and calling it 'awesome'

Another update for the ogre sigmarine auxilia, Leadbelchers this time. I decided to not give them handaxes (because I'd run out of Decimator axes before I'd be done with the Bulls), and instead have them wield their thunderbolt crossbows with two hands.
Lore-wise i think I've settled for them being a unit of the Sigmareon city watch, with the following bits of refluffing:
Tyrant - Watch Commander
Bruiser - Captain
I'm not sure how to fluff the 'cause wounds to deal with battleshock' thing both have, or if I should leave it in. Doesn't really fit with a police force, but they *are* still ogres.
Butcher - carries a Azyrian lantern to cleanse evil and heal himself.
Firebelly - Basically the same, but less shaman and more pyromancer.
Bulls and Ironguts - Watchmen
Sabretusks - Mastiffs
Thundertusk - patrol unit

Hunter - sort of an investigator, maybe?
Maneaters - not sure about them, either

most of the other things don't really fit the theme, like Gorgers, Yethees and the big warmachines, or would be a bitch to convert, like the various huge cavalry things (the thundertusk will be the same, but that's just one model).
Any further ideas would be appreciated.

My dudes are WE, started around the start of 8e WFB. I wanted a mobile skirmish army with strong mobility, so My army has (too) many GG, lots of Waywatchers, a gaggle of Wardancers, a bunch of trees and Wild raiders, along with lots of characters.

I've done lots of conversions, scratch-built a beast caster, and customized most of my heroes. My wild riders are on wolves, and the whole army is posed pretty dynamically, since none of it really has to rank up anyway.

Now that elven factions are being properly integrated into the setting I'm looking forward to playing with them, though some of my models will have to be fielded as counts-as.

Well, let's see here:
Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni
Move 7"
Wounds 5
Save 5+
Bravery 5

Missile Weapons:
Assassin's Chain 6" / A1 / 3+ / 3+ / R-2 / Dd3
Throwing Stars 12" / A3 / 4+ / 4+ / R-- / D1

Melee Weapons:
Weeping Blade 1" / A3 / 3+ / 3+ / R-1 / Dd3
Eshin Glaive 2" / A3 / 3+ / 3+ / R-1 / D2

Ink-Eyes is armed with a Weeping Blade and a Eshin Glaive, from which an Assassin's Chain dangles. In addition, she carries a number of Throwing Stars.

Hidden in the Mist: At the start of your movement phase you may remove this model from the game and immideatly set it up anywhere on the table at least 6" away from any enemy. That is this unit's move for this turn.

At the start of your hero phase, Ink-Eyes regains up to one wound lost earlier in battle.

Necromantic Possession:
Whenever Ink-Eyes slays an enemy Hero or Monster, roll a d6 for every enemy unit within 3". On a 4+ that unit suffers d6 mortal wounds.

>>Who or what are your dudes? My dudes are The Krakenspire knights, Beast riders from the realm of Ghur. They Live in the Krakens maw, a vast pinnacle forest thousands of miles across teaming with Gargants, Ogres and monsters beyond count. The humans survive by building their cities on the tops of the krakenspires (another name for the pinnacles) like Middenheim. Because travel between the pinnacles is difficult, they have taken to taming the great flying beasts like Pegasi, Griffons, Hippogriffs, Manticore, Yali, Ghurland Chimera (distinct from chaos chimera) and even dragons. Their armies are very small, usually just a handful of knights bearing full plate armor and enchanted weapons, riding majestically on their flying beasts. While relatively few in number, each knight is as effective as a small army in his own right, the martial discipline of knight combing with the raw bestial might of his steed. The Krakenspire Knights are always out to seek glory, and will fight as mercenaries for other races as long as their cause is honorable. While the Krakenspire knights can be found fighting in all 8 realms, their peasants are confined to a life on their home spire. Most will never leave their home city, but they see no problem with this. Such is the way of Ghur. The Strong protect the weak, and the weak serve the strong. Thus, the peasants dutifully mine the spires for precious metals, Farm, and craft enchanted weapons and armor for their lords without question. All of Krakenspire culture is geared towards the glory of its knights.

>> No.46627832

They’re like beast riding bretonnia in a way, so most of their infantry are just trained peasants who wield bow, spear, axe and net. But since this is Ghur, even the commoners have to be hard and every citizen knows how to fight. If a tribe of spider goblins invades while most of the Knights are away, The citizens leave their shops and forges and take up weapons carefully maintained in their families for generations. There are professional soldiers known collectively as the Spireguard, brave spearman, archers and halbediers who hold the line against invaders so that their lords may take out the enemy monsters and commanders. The Knights never March them out on campaign though, so any time you see spireguard and Knights fighting together it is in home defense. The main ground forces they use are the demigryph Knights, though in some tribes these are supplemented or replaced by cold one riders, giant wolves, mournfang or stranger mounts. These are used when vast hordes gather at the feet of the spires with the intent of invasion, or to clear the surrounding forests of dangerous enemies in places inaccessible to flying mounts. Demigryphs are "tamed" though only the nobles (those with the mark of Ghur) have a will strong enough to ride them. Even the younger Knights who haven't yet claimed a mount are able to ride Demi's,and they are also able to ride Pegasus, but they must set out and capture a great beast to be considered a true Knight of the Krakenspires. Hundreds set out on their Pegasus or demigryph mounts, but only the strongest can match their will to the power of one of the great sky beasts.

Sorry, was at work. The bulk of my treefolk are dryads, I have two metal treemen but they are hideous and terrible and I want them smelted. I will probably buy the awesome plastic kit when I have the opportunity. I also have treekin, which I do like, but will likely skip out on.

I'll field them both, but justified as being at the same place fighting the same things, and not as buddies.

I used Fenrisian Wolves, they work really well with the old metal Wild Riders I have. I haven't bought the new kit, and I don't know if they'd work well together, but it's worth a shot if you're keen on it.

What I reallly want to do when I have the opportunity is to custom-build a unit of Wildwood Rangers as actual Monster Hunters, with MH armor and MH weapons. Like, rathian battle-dress and greatsword stuff. Maybe grab some bits from other monster kits and bash it up with the actual models, if I can make it look solid.

Of course, I'd basically have Orruks if I did that, but I like them also.

Right now I got 32 Dryads, 3 Treemen, a Branch Wraith (the Forest Spirit Warhost box set), as well as 3 Tree Kin and a 6th/7th edition Metal Treeman, which I am current painting. Since he is the only one without a round base, and rebasing him will be a pain, I figured I would probably use him as terrain more often than as a model.

I want each unit to be based after a different tree in colour.

A demonic-mount lord with his elite retinue of sorcs, knights and chosen leading a fanatical group of marauders and a coterie of monsters - dragon ogres, shaggoth, minotaurs, altar, hounds and so on. the only epub missing of a release that got a digital edition would be the first book, you could ask carnac to upload his since I'm not sure there're other anons with it here
here's an initial collection of the first pieces: http://imgur.com/a/A3iFC
note though that certain 2page spreads don't align perfectly.

Hey guys, about the Free Peoples, aka Freeguild, aka Former Empire...

While the Empire itself is definately gone, what's up with the different State banners still used? Did fractions of the empire (such as Nuln on a rock) fly around for some years and then team up with Sigmar, or is there another meaning?

Tomb kings (khemri) have been removed from age of sigmar.

>> No.46638967

>> No.46639065

Tomb Kings are gone, and undead have been unified into the Grand Alliance: Death.

Although they have been split into their little factions, they are generally played together since most of their abilities use the "Death" keyword, instead of the faction one. For example, The Dispossessed and the Fyreslayers, despite both being Dwarfs (or Duardin as they are now known), use their faction keywords for their abilities instead of Duardin, so they are not able to share buffs.

Skeletons are called Deathrattlers now.

Honestly, the best thing you can do is just look at the GW website to see how the armies have been broken up.

temple guard hit well so dont ignore them.

so for hard hitting units tar pit with base troops - if your opponent doesnt choose to break combat they will stick there all game. For mid or elite troops send in a hero or two with base troops to soak wounds and use positioning to keep hero alive and get full attacks in.

if you have fast units you tie up stuff with, get the most out of them by breaking combat instead of dying.

>Swooping from the skies came Archaon, hurling blasts of mutagenic fire. Dorghar roared in fierce blood lust as he raked his talons through the Stormcast Eternals, clawing an entire retinue of riders from their Dracoth steeds. Where a Dracothian Guard spurred his mount into a leap, blade outstretched, Archaon whipped the Slayer of Kings in a flaming arc to claim his head. Wherever bolts of celestial energy were launched toward the Everchosen, the amber glare of the Eye of Sheerian dissipated them in mid-air.

>Another crack of sky-splitting lightning struck, grounding this time not on the crescent isle, but on the immense chains that bound Ignax to its peaks. Three bolts of celestial energy were cast down. Such was their magnitude that many Stormcasts thought they were the fabled Great Bolts, most destructive of all Sigmar’s lightnings, but instead three gigantic Stardrakes materialised in their wake. Upon their throne-like saddles were Drakesworn Templars, each raising his lightning-wreathed weapon in salute. With a shout they arrowed as one towards Archaon.

>Their charge was intended to be synchronous, but Archaon was a consummate tactician as well as a legendary warrior. Unfazed by the searing heat of the godbeast above, Archaon met the Templars one by one as he winged through the white-hot flares curling from Ignax. Dorghar tore the first Stardrake from the skies in a welter of blood. The second swooped to pluck Archaon from his saddle, but the Everchosen swung aside and slit the celestial beast from belly to tail. The third was simply shorn in two.
