Is Cache+Aesop worth it outside of Hayley and Noise?

>> No.45839589

Bank Job is already great with all the asset spam out there.

It's also solid with Mac, but that's not saying anything new.

Now for my own question: Is anyone else as excited for The Turning Wheel as I am? A flexible, low-influence multi-access option is going to be great for a lot of second-tier runners, especially the minifactions.

It always amuses me that practically no-one calls her that - her nickname's right there but no-one uses it.

The Turning Wheel looks pretty good - and I didn't notice before, but you can build counters and then access a load all at once.
Also it builds counters on "instead of access" runs, which is nice

Thinking about what could be a criminal pancake of sort... how broken would be a resource that allows you to "stack" two replacement effects?

Like rune once, cash in two Sec Testing, or one sec testing plus one event effect?

Granted so far would only work for Sec Testing, that upcoming Shaper draw variation of it, Bank Job, and Shards installation...

Would make for a stylish crim ID.

>how broken would be a resource that allows you to "stack" two replacement effects?

>> No.45850111

How much worse than two cards per turn at no cost past install, which you can reduce to nothing but card use with Career Fair?

(plus another effect you might stack if you play Gene Condition Shop).

Granted, that's probably the issue, Pancakes *does* look like a problem card. Main fear for me is how limiting for design the stacking would be.

>> No.45850796

Much, much worse, were you not around when Andysucker was Queen of the Net? She had stacked 4 different effects (datasucker, siphon, desperado, masanori) that replayed again and again and didn't allow the Corp to play at all. Adding another ridiculous effect would be nuts.

Why are you so bothered by pancakes anyway? 3 credits for getting back the first lost click is a good trade off, the card is full support, and does little on its own, usually that kind of situational support would cost 0 or 1 to install. Take a look at Technical Writer, Scheherazade, Street Magic, and even Aesop. 2 cards and 6 credits to setup a forced draw of 2 cards is also pretty fair in the faction that mass draw and doesn't tutor. Specially when you're usually filling 10% of your deck with those cards so you can find them sooner.

>Would make for a stylish crim ID.
I really like the mastermind-type criminals we got so far. Iain Sterling and Geist are both the kind that stay behind while they let the drones do the dirty work. I'm also thinking Fisk, but he's probably more of a conman than a mastermind.

Nero is the other mastermind, or information broker, but I don't like him so much. I don't really see his ability as a way to increase his influence (no draw, no credits), but rather, he probably uses the intel to avoid sentries. His cards are really cool though, I'm already planning on including Reflection and Political Operative to my decks, although Forger is doing great at saving my resources from random tags.

>> No.45851480

>Much, much worse, were you not around when Andysucker was Queen of the Net?

I was. Never minded too much myself apart from the boring playing agasint the same deck over and over again.
You have to understand, though, that I didn't ask "how broken" for no reason. The idea was more to find a variation that felt fair than use the stacking as is.

>Why are you so bothered by pancakes anyway?

I'm not? Probably coming out stronger than intended. Though I do think there's case to be made of it being the pivot of the Anarch Faust equation. I don't know that I agree, but I do respect the argument. That's what started that whole thread of thought.

Fisk definitely feels more like a conman, I agree. And I do think a lot of people are looking out for Political Operative 'round the corner.

I don't know about Nero so far. On the one hand, his ID ability looks like a license to face-check, which is very powerful early game, giving you a lot of latitude for aggressive play. On the other, if he ever becomes a nuisance, people are just going to start packing the Code Gates that make one curses for getting caught.
I like that he exists for sure.

How is the base game? Can you still build decks from the guven cards, or are the decks they give pretty much the optimal strategies? I'm interested in the game, but really don't want to buy too many boosters and stuff.

>> No.45859663

To me Shrike has become the go-to Killer, like Corroder and Gordian are for Fracters and Decoders.

>> No.45859763

The base game is great, you can treat it as a regular board game and ignore the expansions, the seven factions are very different and gives the game ample room for replay. The core decks are far from optimal though, that's where deckbuilding and mixing the factions cards comes into play.

That said. The game doesn't do boosters. This is not MtG where the cards you get are random. Whenever you buy expansions you pay for what you want to buy. As an example take a look at this:

Those are all the cards you'll find in the Honor and Profit deluxe box. So if you're interested in playing Criminals, or Jinteki, or both, you can be sure the box is completely worth it.

The art book

>> No.45859797

The base game is solid. Between factions, it offers play-styles that are different enough to keep the game fresh for a while, especially if you and your partner are only playing by yourselves.

Some corp aggressive strategies can feel like too much randomness at first until you get to know the game (getting killed by a Scorched Earth on turn two/three is a classic rookie mistake, but it can feel infuriating if you don't get that you could have prevented it by playing smart for example).

>or are the decks they give pretty much the optimal strategies?

With just Core, I wouldn't say it's going to be much of a problem. There's going to be optimum builds for sure (there always are), there may be a (debatable in the context of core I'd say) balance issue with HB's ID, but then playing with a limited player pool means your opponent can just build a deck tailored against yours if needed.

I play a fairly similar deck. You're definitely going all-in on successful runs off unprotected remotes as your enabler. If the corp isn't playing laterally (i.e. if you play against any sort of glacier) you're probably going to get hosed. I'm not super keen on Muertos, you might want some Same Olds or an additional Legwork.

>> No.45861075

>You're definitely going all-in on successful runs off unprotected remotes as your enabler.

I'm really liking high stakes job for that issue. combined with bank job you can still turn a profit of an iced remote when the bank job would otherwise be dead.

Multi threader and sec testing as well actually.

>> No.45861851

I made this deck to teach new players next weekend, along with the 30 card Kate deck for Demo purposes. There's a bit of everything. I chose Silhouette to encourage runs on HQ to learn what's installed, so the Runner don't panic. I also picked up the Recon+Silhouette combo and added it because it's a fun little thing to do. The Maker's Eye and Legwork for a bit of multiaccess seemed fair. Cortez Chip to play on the tax game. I was about to include 3 Rabbit Holes instead of using traditional MU, but chose to add Mimic and Akamatsus instead (I wanted the sentries to be punishing, so I had 2 Ninjas at first). TriMaf would be an interesting way to put some fear on not removing tags. Dirty Laundry and Bank Job because I want them to learn how to take advantage of undefended remotes.

And that's it for now, any advice?

Not a major thing, but I don't know about Doppelganger here. Most of your run boosting comes from events which you can't play on that second free run. If I were you I think I'd go a couple Box-E. Maybe go for some link too though this seems like it's going to depend a lot on the corp you play alongside to teach, and its choice of ICE.

Infiltration looks like overkill with Silhouette to me. But then I don't know how risk adverse the people you want to teach to happen to be.

I guess I just have a hard time believing in Technical Writer. I mean, I get that it makes any ID run more like Kate with how your installs are effectively gaining you a credit each time and how you can cash that in at a later point, but I can't help but think you'd be screwed if you don't get them early every single game. I guess the same could be said of other econ cards, but for Technical Writer to give you a comparable amount of credits to say Sure Gamble, you'd have to install several hardware/programs in order to get it to that point. Is Aesop's the saving grace here? You install it and get 3 credits next turn if you see it too late and you don't have much to install anymore at that point?

Technical Writer? In Hayley? 2 Installs and it's already a sure gamble, with clone chip, Artist colony, and SMC it doesn't even need clicks for it. The deck spins around Hayley ability to install 2 programs at once, usually Cache+Something, and then cash in Aesops selling those Caches. Aesop certainly helps with late game Technical Writers, but that happens with many cards in the game, like installing SMC and sell it late game because you already got everything.

I mean, I'm not a fan of TW but I totally see the appeal in decks like this, or any deck with Chameleon really.

What are you guy's thoughts on pic related?
To my mind the first, most obvious use would be Gagarin with a shit-ton of assets - even with Whizzard dominating, NEH and IG proves that you can still spam assets if you try hard enough.

With Museums, Mumbad Temple to add to the usual Gagarin tricks this could be pretty sweet, though it also works with upgrades.

I don't think you'll use the 5 counters much (though given how much better this is to Dedicate than Oaktown, that might be a route to use it) you can install-and-rez assets - and upgrades - for a mere credit, assuming you have said assets on hand, though they still have to be in a server.
Still, a Corp Town, The Root or an Off the Grid server is pretty nice for 1 credit, as is Hostile Infrastructure, which needs less protection.

I'm kind of wanting to make a deck with this now

Also, all the Business First cards are up on Netrunnerdb - we've seen half the cycle now, though it doesn't feel like it.

Only crap card looks to be Remote Data Farm, in NBN for once.

Shaper get a really decent one for their only card, and Mumbad Construction Co gives Weyland an interesting, albeit expensive, new way to FA rush.

Though now they really want an in-faction way to make normal agendas face-up

Product Recall looks interesting to me - at first it seems shit, but it can turn and Eve on 2 into 5 credits, and there's the amusing Sealed Vault combo (though trashing your shit for money still feels Weyland to me, however the cards they do get are good enough that I don't feel the need to bitch)

Lakshmi Smartfabrics is also interesting - it doesn't trash to use, so feel free to rez it and a load of other cards when the runner's about to be successful.

All the Jinteki stuff looks okay, though Harvester is a strength 3 code gate, and if it's let to fire its effect lets the runner filer their deck at the expense of cards

>> No.45906866

This is wrong.
Sure gamble nets 4 credits over 2 clicks (1 draw, 1 play) for 2 a click.

Technical writer however needs an extra click to trash, so to net 2 credits a click it would need to be at 6.

even 6 credits on tech writer is still very conservative though. Most times I see the first one trashed its for 10-14 easy, with the next 2 going for maybe 6-10 depending how early they show up.

On that note, in the case of Spags install heavy Haley deck artist colony turning fan sites into tech writers goes a long way to increase the reliability of the decks econ.

>> No.45907122

>it doesn't trash to use, so feel free to rez it and a load of other cards when the runner's about to be successful.

You're thinking small time buddy. you only need to have to be able to rez 3 cards on the runners turn to fast track a duplicate 2/3 agenda and plonk it down, leaving it unstealable unless the runner has an imp or film critic.

>Is it me or is this a strict power creep when compared to Akamatsu Mem Chip?

Eh, a one off Aka chip is a lot more flexible because it doesn't matter when you draw it or what you have installed already. If you have 3 used MU and you draw a net chip and an SMC you're kind of out of luck.

>> No.45908914

It's probably a bit power creeping, but it doesn't actually affect memory (for Overmind and such), and the program has to be hosted - consider Dionsaurus and Omni-Drive, particularly the latter.

That sees almost no use, mostly because it's restricted to 1 MU programs and costing 3 credits, but the necessary play order makes it easier to dismiss as well.

>> No.45909521

>and the program has to be hosted - consider Dinosaurus and Omni-Drive, particularly the latter.

But then it doesn't matter which program you host on it. It's not particularly order sensitive. Contrary to Dinosaurus (which demands a breaker, and for which you tend to want a relatively specific one in your build), and even Omni-Drive, for which you want a program that makes you spend money - often enough to make the investment worthwhile, yet still as much as possible only once a turn.

I'm probably downplaying the no MU boost/interaction, you're both right.

Fair enough I guess.

>this program gets +1 strength until end of run

End of the run means up until the runner "jacks out," right? Or does it go back to its original strength after after one piece of ICE? Total newbie learning this game on his own.

>> No.45911182

+1 strength means just on that piece of ICE
When it specifies "until the end of the run" like in your example, then yes, it's til you jack out/access.

>> No.45911208

Yup, gordian blade keeps its strength until the run ends, from jacking out or ice or other. Most ice breaker must have their strength raised for every piece of ice.

>> No.45911231

it means until the run ends through ICE keeping you out, you jack out, or the run is successful and ends. I'm assuming you mean cards like Gordian Blade. They keep strength until the end of the run regardless of how many ICE you go through. Breakers like Corroder that just say +1 strength mean that they only keep that strength until the encounter with the ICE you are currently breaking ends. Like if you tried to run a server with 2 Viktor 1.0s, if you boosted the Strength of the Gordian Blade by 1, it will stay at Str 3 even when you hit the second Viktor. If you had a Corrodor going against two Wall of Statics in a row, you'd have to boost the Corrodor twice, once for each Wall.

>> No.45911256 [DELETED]

Usually icebreakers keep their strength only during a single encounter with ICE. That means that if a runner wants to access a server protected by 2 Wall of Static he has to pay 2c twice, once for each ICE.

As you noticed, the shaper icebreakers are a bit different in that regard because they hold that strength until the end of the run. That means either after a successful access, a jack out, or being forced to End the run.

>> No.45911288

One of the reason why Shapers have those tools to change ICE type.

>> No.45911397

No, it's a very good card - like Weyland last pack, they only got one, so had to make it count (perhaps more so, even, with it being a consumer-grade), but it's not a total improvement.

That said, they might see things like Sage and Battering Ram get a bit more play, now that 2 MU is easy, and it's good for Hyperdriver as well.

I find I include Armitage Codebusting when I'm playing a runner who goes low on credits to run aggressively early (Like kit for the short window where centrals have 1 ice each). If you find you spend more time setting up earlier then maybe think about replacing it with some draw econ greasers, like professional contacts or symmetrical visage.

3 Silencers seems a bit much, I'd recommend replace 1 with a Cloak and see about dropping the spare influence into your breakers (if your plan is to paintbrush ice to use the most efficient breaker then switchblade could be amazing).

You have slight MU issues in that you cant have the full suite and paintbrush out and be able to drop/clone chip caches. Though I guess paintbrush means you don't need all 3 breakers all the time its something to consider, especially since you have no console.

I'd cut one of those smc's, you should get by fine with 2 and it gets you one step closer to that sweet efficient 40 cards.

>> No.45921318

I included Armitages because of its synergy with Aesop. 12 credits for 6 clicks, 2c/click, including instalation click and Armitage install cost, I thought it was a fine speed bump even when the first choice was to include Daily Casts. If I were to swap it for PC, I think I'd go even beyond and just get rid of caches, aesops, and all that and swap them for burst economy cards that can be played with economy procured by Professional Contacts. Maybe even go back to PPVP and throw in some PW and Levy. It's certainly another option.

About the 3 Silencers, I'm playing those instead of cloaks because I have no MU for cloaks, I barely have MU for cache which is why I was considering dropping it. The idea of playing caches for sure gambles AND sure gambles gives me the bump that economy like Kati Jones and Armitage needs to keep me ready. Or that's how I see it anyway.

Switchblade could be amazing, yes, but I think it would need far more stealth than I'm playing. I mean, turning and breaking entire Barriers with ease? Ashigaru? Curtain Walls? It's like a dream. But that dream seems settled on a different deck at its core. It's probably easier to play Morning Star on a Dinosaurus and break everything with it.

Dropping SMCs is always something to treat carefully, they're better seen sooner rather than later.

Neither option is better than the other, in any case.
If you take a look at Spags's Pitchfork, the great point of Hayley is that she can install twice a turn for a single click, and doing this she can install caches along with chameleons or Ladies, or 2 pieces of hardware, filling technical writers with credits like nobody else can, not even Kate. She just needs plenty of draw. I've heard arguments that say that QT is the best because it gets ready options to install faster than any other way. Using ProCon is what spags did because 1 credit per card draw helps a lot to ease those very install costs. Both are valid ways to get into it.

Now, choosing Armitage over Magnum Opus in Hayley? Armitage certainly can be installed along with any other card, and I've seen it a lot, but with MO you don't need to look for those installs, it's already installed. You just need to worry about MU.

In the end it's a matter of how do you feel more comfortable playing, spamming resources with Hayley ability, or worrying about MU to keep MO installed.

Picking up Events that trigger her ability is a fine choice, specially combined with draw events to trigger Comet and also draw the cards that will be install off Hayley's ability, but it's in detriment of having a wider selection of cards to install.

I think a friend played a deck like that back during the early Hayley days. A stealth Hayley with Comet that stomped us all in our meta. I think it was less about test run / scavenge and more Modded / Career Fair with Diesel / QT.
