I am sure there are some viable applications but for the most part I don't think I have ever seen it.

Yeah it was brutal, besides the eleven powerklaws my Nobs/Boss had I simply did not have the anti-tank necessary to deal with that many Leman Russ.

>> No.44021976

Ignores cover plasma yeah?

>> No.44022090

So pathfinders get some shit because they're static and squishy, but they're useful for more than markerlights because they can get positional relays AND homing beacons. Put that in a devilfish and run around or just use scout to put them in a forward position and drop your suits on them.
It makes the infiltration cadre fucking hilarious because just about every unit in it can be fitted with beacons.

>> No.44022150

Is it too much to kit Veteran squads in a Chimera with a couple Meltaguns and Heavy Flamers to shit on deepstriking Raiders? I'm not fond of Blasters getting behind or next to my Hydras/Tanks

>> No.44022192

The biggest thing is that compared to a Drone Squadron, they've got a lower armor save, less toughness, and they have to stand still to not snapshot.

In terms of Homing Beacons and Positional Relays, a Stealth Team will probably do better. They can infiltrate and have a very nice cover save.

Pathfinders want to be fast mobile scouts, but their Markerlights weigh them down too much.

>> No.44022241

A min squad of pathfinders is cheaper than a min squad of stealth suits for spamming homing beacons, and I doubt stealth suits are popular outside of the formation but pathfinders are a go-to unit.

>> No.44022328

A stealth team is 115 points for a Positional Relay and Homing Beacon, but can Infiltrate so they don't have to cross the board to get where you want, and are more survivable while there.

A Pathfinder team is 72 points for just the Team and the Recon Drone, but also requires another 80 for a Devilfish to help them cross the board.

So, custom marine chapter fag from 2(?) threads ago, got my wishlist and all done up and nice but was wondering, how does the benefits of the full battle company stack up? Does free transports really outweigh the troop taxes?

>> No.44022411

Free razorbacks

>> No.44022458

Free transports are great, since it can add up to a lot of extra points above the baseline, but it will run you quite a bit money-wise, since you need a large number to get the most value.

>> No.44022477

Instead of getting another unit of grav bikes for my ravenwing I am considering a three man squad of Black Knights. For just a few points more they get so much and then I have something that isnt too shy from an assault.

>> No.44022530

Ah, I see. It was mainly because I was building something mainlining Sternguard with Razorbacks and the points tally wasn't even a close match at the 2500 point mark. But thinking about it, those units are free and you have more to play with so I am in fact, just retarded.

>> No.44023332

PFs are cheaper and have bs3, though. Drones need a commander or that one formation (which you can't get in the hunter contingent) to be able to hit things even semi reliably. If the formation is not availeable (I consider running decurion and additional formations to be too much, and most tournaments around here seem to be moving to making decurions count as all formations you're allowed to take), I'd use commander in a drone unit and some small PF units, maybe with some markerlights in stealthsuit units (in the OSC they get good bs on their own). Of course when not using the hunter contingent you could just take tetras, which are by far the best source of markerlights, being fast, reliable (2 twinlinked bs3 markerlights) and still pretty cheap.

>> No.44023568

The Landraider's natural enemy is the Hypothetical Melta. Just convince your opponent a LR is not worth the points because theoretically it can get blown up by a single meltagun (the Hypothetical Melta will always deep strike or otherwise move near the LR before it gets close to the enemy, will always hit and pen, and rolls the explodes, or at least immobilized result every time).

>> No.44023575

What you need are allies with grav or haywire. But in-codex, yes, lots of melta. Pull the cheesiest shit you can. Scions can be good for this: Drop a Command Squad full of melta out of a Valkyrie, or swarm it with Fast Tauroxes full of melta troops.

>> No.44023773

Yes, it would be awesome.
Yes, everyone would pick the retarded unfun cheese options.

>> No.44023829

They did something like that for the 4th edition Marine book (pick an advantage and a disadvantage), which resulted in everybody picked the most irrelevant disadvantage (can't use allies; that'd be huge now but back then it mean you couldn't include a Daemon/Witch Hunters unit, as those were the only allies back then) and one of the best advantages.

>> No.44023854

It'd be really cool, but the same could be said for just making more Chapter Tactics in general. The ones Forgeworld released offer a lot of extra options just by themselves, and re-fluffing is easy.

I think the main thing they should do is just add more normal Chapter tactics in a supplement to fill in some of the gaps in specialties, like a force focused on vehicles or flyers, or marines who use Plasma to a greater effect.

Thanks, Anon. I'm not the biggest Chaos fan. But most of it comes from Chapter Master. Black Crusades made me hate the eight pointed star to the point Sisters of Battle would get wet from it. But if a big fleet, Slaughtersong, and the final upgrade for ships a Black Crusade isn't that bad. No. It was the Chaos Lords. Sometimes you would find a planet with 20% heresy. Not too bad you think. You would go to purge it, but what you find is no mere cult with daemons dry humping cultists to make them serve Chaos. No. You find a whole army waiting for you. Thousand or so cultists, hundreds of Chaos Space Marines, 20 Hellbrutes, 5-10 Chaos Land Raiders/Predators, and 6 Helldrakes, and a Bloodthirster or three. Sometimes it was a Lord of Change and a Keeper of Secrets. After that there's a fleet to deal with which shouldn't be too hard to deal with. But if you lose he springs a Black Crusade. You can't purge by orbital bombardment, the heresy won't go away even if you have glassed all life on the planet. You had to fight the heretics on the planet. I loathed Chaos because of that and how it would distract me from the most dangerous thing in the game. Orks. Another time one planet got a daemonic incursion which means that the heresy will go up as soon as life takes place, and there is no way to remove it. People would still go to this hive world where a daemonic incursion was. They would see the twisted landscape and think "durr seems like a nice hive world". So much time was wasted on purging it. So much savescuming.

>> No.44025735

>1d4chan rhetoric.

Or my own experience. What made you assume that? Have you ever actually played against wraiths?

I generally use shuriken but it doesn't do much. A big problem with the wraiths is while I am focused on them, the rest of his army is moving up the board and ripping me a new asshole.

The best I have done to him is with warp spiders. They killed three in one volley once. But then they couldn't get away far enough and he charged them and destroyed them. Lances, missile launchers, shuriken weaponry, psychic stuff (though that generally does fuck all, which is why he takes them).

I'll take whatever suggestions. Also, tomb blades tear me a new one but that's a different argument.

Juggerlord - The Axe of Ruin, Melta Bombs, Combi-Plasma

Two troops of shitty 8 man cultists I don't care about.

2 Hades Autocannon Hel Drakes and a Forgefiend with 2 Hades Autocannon

In my gorepack I run 3 Plasma and 2x3 melta bikers with a unit of 5 and 10 Flesh Hounds.

In older versions Tyranids were the worst thing in the game. Hive Fleets were basically the rock that the GM uses to end you. They made you prepare for a last stand. Duke may have made them rare or removed completely from the game. Tyranids would still pop out of nowhere sometimes. One dead world got Nids for no reason.
Gork and Mork don't play around.
There was no luck or dreams to be had. He did brought that on himself. If you ignore Orks that would happen. In a Blood Angel playthrough half of my sector was Ork controlled and made me rage quit.

I got a nice offer to buy the Calth set and two tac sqads for the equivalent of $300 (third world and shit).

With some work and creativity that will net me
4 tac squads
1 sternguard squad
1 chaplain
1 commander
1 terminator squad
1 dreadnought

Reposting this cause the other thread is dead.

I spend so much time worrying about justifying any small purchase when yesterday and tonight I spent 20 euros on food and booze, things that I'm literally going to shit out and have nothing to show for.

So I'm wondering maybe I should just treat myself. Was gonna spend about 90-100 euros on models after earning a bit of money from a short 2-week job I just got paid for that I had a LOT of stress over.

A ghostkeel (been wanting one since it came out. Already got a pose in mind and it'd be a joy to paint).
A Stealthsuit squad (I could use one to complete the Stealth formation but I would first use the parts to try and make moulds. If I manage, then I can cast as many as I please)
A pathfinder box (yay for scouts and snipers)
An ebay purchase of 3 Rail Rifle pathfinders (yay for extra MSU rail snipers, LOVE the aesthetic)

How do I stop worrying about my future and live in or enjoy the moment?

Please note: the last hobby anything I bought was 2011 and I don't field cheesy Tau (I won't even use the stealth cadre ability, just want to free up CAD slots).

Help a neurotic mess out.

The Cultists are great for stuff like going to ground on an objective, or assaulting a shooty unit. I like when a 200 point unit wastes a turn or two trying to dislodge some Cultists from an objective. Let them cause a lucky wound, save, or pass leadership? They have made plays for me that won the game.

Id consider adding some Spawn, another squad of Cultists or Khorne Dogs, more bikes maybe with assault kits. Def Spawn though.

Can you use allies? CSM for a Sorcerer and some Obliterators might not hurt. A Sorcerer with invisible bikes or Spawn can be pretty nasty.

So, /tg/, how much should Chosen cost?

>> No.44031566

I don't understand this. For the last 10 or so games Ive run melee nids exclusively.

Hormagaunts aren't used for cc. They're used for mobile cover screens, eating overwatch, and tying up melee units you can't get to yet.

Carnifex are great.

Mawlocs are amazing for their cost. Hit & run is formidable on a 6w mc.

Shrikes with rending claws can shred almost anything, and with lashwhip bonesword can tear through ANYTHING with a 3+ save.

I seriously have no clue why people are having a rough time with them. I've played everything except for harlequins, admech, and other nids.

Go fuck yourself, seriously. It's no surprise GW overcharges for everything and hardbacks are pretty much intended for hardcore collectors/fans of the respective armies, even the hardback BL books.

Besides, unless you're a slob who mistreats their precious reading material like a degenerate, paperbacks will last you literally centuries. >> No.44037119

I'm happy to pay a little extra. But it shits me that GW charge extra to sell gear in Australia because they know we'll fucking pay it.

There's an e-mail out there that explains how they factor in an additional percentage for the Australian market based on how much it would cost us to purchase their goods from another country and get it shipped over.

So we get the base price (taking into account exchange rate), an additional surcharge for getting the goods over here, and then another charge on top of that to make sure that it wouldn't only be a liiiittle bit more expensive to purchase from, say, Britain or America and get it shipped over.

This is why I feel no guilt pirating EVERYTHING they release.

>> No.44037168

Is it something to do with Australia's laws that things are so expensive? Or is it because of exchange rates and the economy dictating that the Australian Dollar is weak as fuck? Is an Aussie Dollar worth like 10 British pence or a dime or what?

And does this affect EVERYTHING or just niche items like warhams and naughty things like alcohol? Do you pay like 20 dollars for a Happy Meal?

>> No.44037198

Happy meal is usually around $5.

The Aussie dollar is comparatively strong for an economy our size. Like, it's not amazing, but it shouldn't be as decent as it is.

The big hiccup is that it's expensive as fuck to ship things here. And companies know this. As a result, they can up the prices to factor this expense in. As long as it's cheaper to buy here than to ship it in, we'll buy here.

>> No.44037220

But why is it a pain in the ass to ship to Australia? It's not like you lack the infrastructure, you're a developed country not fucking Somalia.

>In Europe
>Buy from America
>Pay 5-10 dollars shipping for a plane to cross the ocean/literally half the planet

And you're telling me it's somehow different for Australia for no reason? Has to be laws. Shipping from Japan should be cheaper since it's much closer.

>> No.44037240

No idea why.

I know it's not everywhere. Shipping from/too China is cheap as chips.

Fuck, I recently found out that with my telephone plan it's actually technically cheaper to CALL CHINA than it is to call my mates on the other side of the city.

>> No.44037300

goddamn, man I'm sorry to hear that. I see GW aussie prices and I feel bad about worrying about a 35 euro box of minis, imagine if I had to pay double that minimum. Has to do with some shipping laws or some shite. Are prices different from America and Britain?

Just don't get it. Say you lived in Slovenia and ordered something from California. That's crossing America, the ocean and most of the EU and it still wouldn't be that expensive. That's roughly the same eyeballed distance from Slovenia to Australia and I bet it's jacked up in price.

Largest shipping I had to pay for was 16 euros from America and I live in Malta, so that's bloody ridiculous.

Shipping FROM China is expensive as crap (on an industrial level) since that the market and the ships going there are full. Every year they put out bigger and bigger container ships just to handle the China output and every year they're not enough.
Shipping TO China is however cheap as hell since that the containers going there are 90% empty and the rest is food so there's plenty of room for cargo.
I think the problem is in the fees for importation and the fact that they have to haul shit from Britain.
