He was being too cruel. The "I always wondered" was the kicker. Roy could maybe buy that Durkon had some anger towards the dwarves for tossing him out. But he and Durkon were best friends for years. They knew each other very well, and Roy knew that Durkon would have NEVER been that curious about the physical details of that, or even tried to rub it in his face.

Roy had been holding back, even unconsciously. He couldn't really try to kill his former best friend, even with the world on the line. He had always held a sliver of hope that he could talk some sense into Durkula. But now? Now that he knows that he isn't fighting his friend, but an evil creature that has stolen his friend's body to try and end the world?

Oh, you better believe it's go time, bitch.

He's right though. The same sporkhands art since forever and the artist openly admits it's so he can churn them out faster like that's a good thing. The pacing is godawful and almost every page is wordswordswords. Just overall a lot of faffing about. The story's okay, not particularly bog-standard as genre fiction goes.

See, I have this weird conflicting thing where sometimes an artstyle/aesthetic is either something I don't care about at all and can read the comic just fine, and other times it completely ruins a comic for me, and I can't read it.

I haven't noticed a pattern to this yet, either. OotS doesn't bother me one bit. Yet comics that actually try to do actual art, often times I can't stand them.

Actually, maybe it's because they seem like they're trying to do a certain style of art, but they do it badly in a way I just can't deal with. Whereas here, the art is very simple and highly stylized, so it doesn't bug me?

>I haven't noticed a pattern to this yet, either. OotS doesn't bother me one bit. Yet comics that actually try to do actual art, often times I can't stand them.
Well I think it's in the execution.
See somebody set a lofty goal of quality art and then fail horribly at it is worse than somebody setting art at simplistic level and then performing on it.

How do you feel about art in xkcd, keychain of creation, questionable content (especially the constant art evolution and shifts) and bob and george if you've read them?

>Q: How come your art sucks so much? Can't you draw?

>A: Grumble. Let's be clear: I choose to draw stick figures because I think they bring the right air of humor to the strip, and because they create a unique style. People often criticize the OOTS style under the assumption that I am incapable of doing 'better'. I would argue that there is no 'better' or 'worse' involved. I use stick figures because the stick figure style is what is right for the comic. If I were doing a serious fantasy epic, I would draw more realistic pictures.

I'm willing to accept the art change being a downgrade in some aspects, but calling out OOTS for being stick figures is like complaining at a hotdog stand about menu variety.

I'd also defend the story, as it's rather ambitious and shines in its scope and characterization. Your faffing about is my weekly slice of life comedy strip showing through the kudzu plot which I think will take another 2 to 4 years to untangle satisfactorily. Calm down and enjoy the ride.

Xkcd is fine, mainly because it's just a humor type thing, made of up largely disconnected comic strips. Art style barely factors into it, really.

Never heard of KoC, but Googling it really quick, it doesn't look like the kind of artstyle that would bug me (the future strips, at any rate, the early ones.... I'm not so sure. The first strip has me intrigued though).

I've heard of QC, but I don't think I ever read it. Going off the first and latest strip, who knows. It's a toss up.

Bob and George doesn't ring any bells. But seeing it's a sprite comic... I'm kinda done with those. There were a couple I used to like, but when I look back on them, weren't actually all that good. Good sprite comics are a diamond in the rough, it seems.

It doesn't have to be good, objectively, for it to be readable. It just has to be worth it. Since this is free the cost is my time, and I've never regretted the two minutes it takes to read a strip. The art is perfunctory and not distracting, because even though it is simple and cheap, it is consistent. Inconsistency is what causes problems far more than lack of quality. If I learned anything in ten years of setbuilding, it's that. The story's decent enough, and there's a good joke in most strips. Some of the plots were real fun.

It's no Sandman, but neither is anything else. It's not a Sin City or even a generic Batman comic, but it's worth a two-minute read as often as not.

Besides, if you want wordswordswords remember that Subnormality exists. Now there's a comic that makes me sad sometimes. The concepts and stories are usually good and sometimes excellent, but fucking fuck's sake, they're not comics. I wish either the writer/artist got better at pictures or gave up entirely and just wrote stories, because they're very good and hampered by trying to be comics when they shouldn't.

Sometimes they do work as comics, and then they are very good. But it makes me sad that some excellent stories are held back by being forced into comic format.

>Never heard of KoC, but Googling it really quick, it doesn't look like the kind of artstyle that would bug me (the future strips, at any rate, the early ones.... I'm not so sure. The first strip has me intrigued though).
It basically started as Exalted OOTS, complete with purposefully sticky style. Author shifted to more "fleshed out" style a ways in, connecting to an in-universe element http://keychain.patternspider.net/archive/koc0319.html
Aand then the guy got carpal tunnel and the comic died (partially shifting artstyle again just a couple strips before morgue). He done some quests on tgchan since then with newer style.

>I've heard of QC, but I don't think I ever read it. Going off the first and latest strip, who knows. It's a toss up.
It has A LOT of changes. Hit random a couple times, you'll see what I'm talking about.

B&G had a rocky start: the author wanted to make an actual drawn comic strip, but faffled out and started sprites for random funny filler instead. He tried artsing eventually http://www.bobandgeorge.com/archives/000601 twice even http://www.bobandgeorge.com/archives/001001 but saw how much he sucked and decided to stick with sprites.
So it's mainly an example in that distinction of "stick with style or fail at higher goals".
He proceeded to run it for 7 years and have a ton of followers doing sprite comics.

Specifically, Rich had realized just how few female characters of importance he had, and resolved to work on that to give them more screen-time. The final HaleyxCrystal showdown was the first part of that. Apparently they had a problem with Elan being knocked out in one round too, even though Haley got knocked out in one round the last time he fought Nale.

It's retarded because it's a fucking D&D world; it's egalitarian as it can fucking be where gender has literally no bearing on what your life will be. It's also retarded because he really didn't have many important female characters: aside from Haley, the only other ones that had a real impact on the plot was Miko and Tsukiko.

I'm triggered by that pic of Haley sucking Elan and Roy with the latter having the bigger dick. Where is Elan's 18 Ch?
>>43199776
There is one in the lower part of the page with a male V

It's how you use it, anon.
You know damn well that Elan'a the best orangutan bather out there.
Though that said, Roy's got a pretty decent charisma score too. Given all his stats, he's probably the chosen of the Dice Gods

Yeah, and to be fair, in that where they're doing the whole naked-elan thing, they penis euphemisms all turn out to be about his rapier, no ever actually makes a comment about his dick size except to wonder about it. I don't think Haley ever says anything one way or another after she gets actual direct experience of it.
