So, uh... Mass Combat, eh? You get a bunch of dice to roll, excellencies totally count, plus a bunch of automatic successes based on your unit stats, and it adds up to fucktons of automatic damage to whatever you hit?

Did I miss something, or do units that aren't goddamn huge just always instantly die? What the hell am I rolling against?

I'm brewing up this artifact for my players to supply water to a town in the Southeast. Aiming for an Artifact 3-4 rating, but I'm worried that it might be a little too gonzo.

Fountain of Plenty
This fountain is approximately 8 feet tall and 12 feet in diameter, and appears to be constructed primarily of black marble, inlaid black jade and moonsilver filigree. When the base of the fountain is filled with a liquid and a hearthstone is installed in the hidden compartment at the center of the main font, the fountain will issue an endless stream of the liquid used, be it water, alcohol, blood, or virtually anything else so long as you can initially provide about 2000 gallons of it. The rate of flow may be adjusted with controls situated in the hearthstone compartment. The quantity is limitless so long as the hearthstone is installed and functional, but the flow cannot be increased beyond a set level. In practical terms, this means that it cannot be used to irrigate or despoil more than 750 square miles of land.

Couple of things to perhaps consider:

Maybe necessitate the hearthstone must be from a Water Aspected Manse?

Have the hearthstone inset be in an obvious point in the focal point of the fountain.

Controls is vague but seems too modern, perhaps describe them as knobs, levers, or something suitably low-techy.

I figure it'd be fine to just dump it into the main basin, which is what I estimated the 2000 gallons for... but having it be more obviously and permanently consumed would add an element of risk if the process is disrupted. And since the main point of the 2000 gallons is to make priming the thing a laborious pain in the ass, it's in keeping with the spirit of the thing as well.

I'm thinking a full startup within an hour if it's the same liquid as was last used, or a month and a day for something different. That way it should be resistant to casual disruption, but quite a bit harder to change over from resplendent irrigation program to drowning the countryside in blood.

They are charm trees that can be learned across the splats. You cannot add custom charms to a complete martial art, only create a whole new one. Exception to that are each splat's native styles, to which that splat alone can create extra charms (those extras are unavailable to other splats)

Unlike other abilities, you can combine even disparate martial arts into one combo, however you cannot combo them with other abilities.
For example you have a MA style that uses swords and another MA style that uses spears. Despite them having form-weapons, you can still use them with your bare hands, and can combo them together. But you cannot combo either of them with your native Melee charms even when using a sword or a spear.

Can combo them together when using with your bare hands, to be completely clear. To use styles with weapons, both of them have to share form weapons (i.e. White Reaper has scythe and spear as form weapons, Crystal Chameleon has rope dart and spear as form weapons, you can combo them when using a spear or bare hands, but not with scythe or rope dart or sword)

Anyway, you seem to be completely new to the system soo I'm going to keep explaining on that level.

Charms cost either 8 or 10 XP depending if the ability they're tied to is favoured/caste or not.
The Mins is that you need to have to learn it. Martial Arts at 3 and Essence at 2.
[Cost: 3m] is the cost to use it.

If you're the Dawn, it's in the Caste, so it costs 8 XP. And takes amount of days to learn equal to the Ability minimum, i.e. 3 days, but the ST may be giving them at plot speed. If it were not in your caste or favoured abilities, it would cost 10 XP and take time equal to ability and essence minimum, i.e. 5 days.

Okay. Lemme check that thread...
Ahha, so you're a Lunar.
Then you have it a bit differently.

First, your native charms are keyed off from Attributes (Strength, Dexterity, etc) rather than Abilities (Melee, Archery, Martial Arts).
That means that you CAN combo them with Martial Arts. It's quite useful to pick some stuff from native charmsets to supplement the styles.
(note: ask about combo rules in general. They're kinda complicated and the corebook doesn't explain them very well.)

Second, you do not get Caste Abilities and instead get Caste Attributes. However, you still get to select one favoured Ability and you should make it Martial Arts to get that discount. Just keep that in mind for when you'll be doing the charsheet.

Soo, Lunar lore? It's kinda a mess (like just about everything about lunars, but such is the second edition), but I can try to summarise.
Have you read the general setting and history information in the corebook?

Read the Errata for Solar Hero Style, as well as the Enhanced effects only Solars get while using the style and Expansion charms only Solars can buy.

What the Corebook has to say about Martial Arts, Solar Charms and power levels isn't relevant to Solar Hero Style anymore. It's been irrelevant since the advent of Enhanced Effects, to be fair. Then the expensions came out and SHS stopped making sense altogether (in a wonderful, wonderful way).

>Side note, all the Lunars I've seen have been brown skinned, is this necessary to be a lunar? Mostly just curious on that part
That's a hilarious idea, but no. Skin color of people in Creation is determined mostly by their position to the closet Elemental Pole, the edge of material world.
Living closer to the Pole of Fire to the South, skin gets darker, becoming more rock-like in it's appearance. Closer you live to the Pole of Wood in the East, the higher chance your skin will be brown, not black but closer to the wood bark. White people live in the North, where the Pole of Air is, and in the central Blessed Isle, where the Pole of Earth is.

>I think someone said to do the Fury charms, what exactly is that anon referring to?
Relentless Lunar Fury, placed among the Stamina charms.

No, not at all. Exalted just kinda has a lot of brown people around.

>The keying part I did read, though I am a bit shaky on. I think someone said to do the Fury charms, what exactly is that anon referring to?
Fury charms are charms that have a Fury keyword in them. That means that they can be activated simultaneously when activating Relentless Lunar Fury, without having to spend actions turning them on one by one. They are sprinkled around the charms section in the Manual of Exalted Power: Lunars.

>I've read that, and a bit of the core 2e book. Probably need to go back to the core book and read it proper, yeah?
Well you got the gist of the backstory in there. Corebook will get you a bit more detailed on the geography. Then you go to the Lunars book for the specific Lunars fluff and what they generally do.

>Side note, all the Lunars I've seen have been brown skinned, is this necessary to be a lunar? Mostly just curious on that part
Lots of people on Creation are brown skinned, for a whole lot of reasons.

First is Ethnicity. People in the East (the Direction of Wood) tend to have brown to reddish skins due to the influence of the Pole of Wood (comes with black to green hair, eyes to match etc). People in the South (Direction of Fire) tend to have dark skin because the region's mostly deserts. Some nations in the West (Direction of Water) are based on oceanic cultures, with matching physionomy.

Second reason is exposure. Even when not ethnically inclined to be dark skinned, people in the North and Centre (respectively Air and Earth) can quickly become so due to long exposure to the sun, just like us. Happens to frequent travelers, people who work outside (farmers, fishermen, carpenters and shit) as well as the poorest who spend their days and nights without a shelter, be it in town or in the wild.

Lunars are at the intersection of a bunch of these factors. They don't tend to come from the Center, because that's the Direction in which the Realm is strongest, and thus very few newly Exalted Lunars ever manage to survive long enough to get contacted by the Silver Pact. So most Lunars come from the four other Directions, which makes three chances out of four for Ethnicity-related dark skin.

Then, there's the fact that Lunars are prone to spending long periods of time exposed to the wild. A month-long hunt in the Savanna will give you a tan to rival the prettiest of Chiaroscuran women.

So to answer you question directly : No, not all Lunars have dark skin, but it happens fairly often. The same goes for Solars too.

Yes, green hair in the East, blue in the West, and so on. In Creation there are also demesnes, places where natural essence coalesces and Wyld Pockets, where the stability of material world is lower. People living in those places may mutate, which can create some strange hair/skin/eye colours. Having some supernatural ancestry (gods, elementals, demons, gods) may result in some unnatural changes to the appearance as well.

Well, it's not really restrictive. You can flat out invent a nation and culture your character comes from and put into a corner somewhere in the world.
Basic Lunar personality trait is that you're the survivalist.
You Exalted when you went through something nearly impossible, surviving only by grit of your teeth and immense determination.
After that defining moment of Badass, you can be however variable.

>Also what sort of animals we can change into. From what I see it's "any that fit your caste"
By default it's a mundane animal size from a cat to a moose. You can expand the size limits in either way to get, say, T-Rex or a spider, or simply say that you have a giant spider instead of a normal tiny spider.
Generally, the totem form carries some associations with your personality, but it's pretty freeform too.

You can also hunt down more animals to fill your shapes library, but you only get that one Totemic Animal.

Just pump Willpower to the max (you want to do that at chargen anyway because it's ludicrously expensive to do in play, but cheapass at chargen) and get at least one Virtue at five (again, it's also much cheaper to do at chargen than in play). Then you can buy special Charms to add more to the pool if you think you'll need it.

About Shapeshifting, the moment you Exalt, you get your first animal shape. This form is considered "true", along with your original human form. This first animal is also called your totem, since its image appears when you spend a lot of peripheral essence as a form of a powerglow.

Then, you can hunt and drink blood of other animals. You gain the ability to shift into the form of the animal you have hunted. You can hunt two animals of the same species that look differently, and have two distinct forms. There is no limit to the number of forms you can have. There is only a size limit, between a cat and a moose I think.

Then there are knacks, powers that improve shapeshifting. Deadly Beastman Transformation is very good, as it gives you a third true shape, which is a mix of your human and totem shapes, but larger than you and very good for fighting. A number of knacks give you a broader range of possible new shapes - smaller/larger animals, humans, supernatural beings. Others remove the requirement of killing, some speed your transformations, and so on.

perfect attack: You can't miss, your enemy can't block or dodge. Only way to defend against it is a perfect defense

You do have a natural lifespan of about 3000 years. If you can get to essence 7 or higher, there's things you can do to prolong that, but you're stuck at about 3000 until then.

>Solar lifespan is somewhere around 3000 years.
Really?

Huh. Well there's no charm to prevent that? I could make one with time probably since Demons don't age in human bodies.

>I'm not telling you to do everything in a span of a few days, but there's no reason a Solar should worry about money.
I could do odd jobs, but doing anything that would draw attention to myself seems like a bad idea.

Plus I gotta have a secret identity. Don't want a thug killing my best friend because of me.

>YOU CAN BLOCK IT.
Block and destroy it. No roll, no fuss, just bam. Beam of gold annihilates it.

No, no charms. Hundreds of solars tried in canon, didn't work. There is a special magic gem, but you will need to develop a whole another skillset to set onto making it.
So just file it into "things to do once I am the God-Emperor of Mankind"

>Unless you get yourself a Gem of Immortality
What is that, and where do I find one?

>I mean, imagine a giant meteorite heading to destroy the planet.
>YOU CAN BLOCK IT.
Yeah but I'm not trying to fix everyone's problems. Humanity has to stand on its own two feet.

Resistance. You can roll to simply not be affected.
