Do you have a favorite MtG card? If so, what is it and why?

Mine is LED. I love the combos it enables, I love the art, I love the entire flavor of the cardeven the flavor text.

I like the oracle rules text for LED too:
>The ability is a mana ability, so it is activated and resolves as a mana ability, but it can only be activated at times when you can cast an instant.
>Yes, this is a bit weird.

My personal favorite mana rock might be pic related. Sure it's not great most of the time, but in the right deck it can provide that extra little burst of mana you need some of the time. It fits into a unique little niche that many mana rocks miss. Heck, aside from mana generation, I even run one in a mutually-assured destruction deck in case I need a permanent to sacrifice in the early turns.

I couldn't decide between Goblin Game, Possibility Storm, Eye of the Storm, Hive Mind, Scrambleverse and Grip of Chaos so I'll pick as my favorite the one card that enables all of them.

I want a Nether Void so bad, but they're so expensiiiiivvvvvve. I don't have $200 to shell out for a stupid card.

What are the chances Wizards will re-release Nether Void in a product in the next few years? A lot of modern rare cards got reprints last summer, and some legacy rares get reprinted in Commander and stuff, right? Is Nether Void too powerful to be included in something like that?

Oh yeah, and one of my all-time favorite cards back when I used to play green/white: Armadillo Cloak, motherfuckers.

>> No.30104805

It used to be my favorite but nowadays, I've come to realize that winning the game simply becomes a formality after resolving it. The card feels cheap to me. It's hard to cast, sure, but defeat becomes almost impossible once you have it on board.

I now prefer Phyrexian Arena, it feels more fair.

Celestial Crusader.
The art is absolutely wonderful, I just adore that armour design; The tone it sets with that lighting is great.
It has 4 awesome abilities, 3 of which have great synergy with one another. It has flying so with other anthem effects it can really get going, it has flash so I can save my mana for other things, and the Split Second in combination with the flash is just the best for saving weenies.
It's also one of the thematically best white cards in a block of amazing thematic white cards, and in my favourite tribe to boot. My one problem with it is that it's not a soldier or a knight given the art and the synergy it'd have with a deck I want to build, but I still love it.

Not a chance. Apart from being on the reserved list, Legends was a set full of cards that didn't fit into the color pie at all. Nether Void being one. You could settle for italian copies though.

How very noble of you. I often lose interest in casual decks that have become too strong and stop using them.

Personally, this is what I wish WotC will do:

1.) Make packs not be sorted by rarity. You can get 15 mythic rares if you become the sex slave of lucifer, but it is still possible.

2.) For the price of a pack, and then with multiples due to rarity and how old the set is, you can get any card directly from them. Black Lotus? 5*3*37, get a copy of the lotus from us.

3.) Sell sets of cards. As in, a whole set. 249 single cards for your enjoyment. Only sale the last five, seven sets, but still. You want one of all those cards? Pay up and you get it.

Done, you solved everything wrong with current magic. Other than WotC thinking their players are idiots, I mean.

I'm so glad I finally finished off my playset of LED's a few months ago. I love it.

But my favorite card has got to be Lotus Petal. It's so much more versatile than LED, and fits my super fast combo preference perfectly. I've got 8 decks built right now between Legacy, Modern, and Casual, and I have Lotus Petals in 4 of them. And the only reason I don't run it in my Modern deck is because it's not legal, and I have to use Simian Spirit Guide instead.

>The best plan is make the powerful cards keep going up in time so that new players have less and less of an opportunity to get a hold of them.
Like, what the fuck? Magic is the game. Why the hell are there "never print again" cards that can still be played?

Also, instead of releasing new sets, they should reprint old sets. Like literally re-release 10th edition, which is the Greatest set Of All Time.

They should re-edit the whole reserved list in a set named "From the vault: Prohibited", it isn't limited.

I heard from somewhere that they made the reserve list because they had made some set that released pretty much all the old cards at one point and collectors were pissed. They said they wouldn't do it again, and made the reserved list to prove it. If they go back on it at this point, they lose a lot of trust from people, as they went back on their word. The reserve list is here to stay anon.

The premise of the question was reprinting an old set. My choice was 10th. Is yours Modern Masters?

Explain how it's a mistake.
>Chronicles destroyed values of a lot of cards
IE. Good cards became cheap, now with a white border. This is beneficial to the game. New players can now access them for cheaper. Older players shouldn't be speculating on the market like it's an investment. It's a card game. Wizards was already open about reprinting cards for accessibility, so why was this a surprise?

>Quite a bit of the sought after cards were even printed at lower rarity.
"Desired cards were more accessible." Okay, how is that a bad thing? It has 0 impact on the significance of the card in a tournament.

>Chronicles... made a lot of people leave magic.
There, this is a valid point. But those people are also retarded for speculating. "My imaginary resale value of my cards has fallen. I am done playing the actual card game itself."

And because of Wizard's retarded reaction to this, we now have things like the chinese fake reprints. I don't like the fakes at all, but it is a necessary evil that Wizards had coming for them.

1. This is an incredibly bad idea. For one, it would fucking kill limited. It would also suck for most players, because most people really like to see what the rare in their pack is, it gives them some excitement.
2. What's wrong with buying singles from stores? In most cases you'd be paying less than your proposed model. And for most cards it wouldn't be worth the money to have stuff printed on demand, which would have to happen at some point. And with print on demand, you'd have cards that would look too good to be from old sets, and most people would assume it was a fake.
3. You can do this if you have get on MTGO and buy up a complete set of whatever it is that you want, and then redeem it for a physical copy.

To get down to brass tacks, here's the reason Wizards will never repeal the reserved list. They made a promise, and people have bought power 9 and such on the secondary market under the assumption that promise was genuine. Wizards has thought about getting rid of the reserved list before, but their legal team told them that's a really bad idea because there's a good chance they could get sued by those players due to promissory estoppel laws. It's also important for a company to retain the trust of its customers, and you do exactly earn trust by going around breaking promises.
Yes the reserved list sucks and 99.9% of players as well as many employees of Wizards want it gone but it would be a really dumb and bad business decision.

In addition, from Ice Age through Urza’s Destiny, all the rares had only one opportunity to get reprinted in a base set and after that they were added to the reserved list, never to be printed again. It was never about power level, it was about collector value.

>> No.30123155

1.) Again, I don't care about limited (and quite honestly don't see how having the possibility of having more good cards is going kill it). Furthermore, the possibility of gaining more rares than normal is actually going to be better for more players, as any study about reward to effort shows that irregular rewards for the same effort makes animals and people not only more willing to do said activity but feel happier once they hit it big. Science disagrees with you, bucko.

2.) WotC recieves no money from singles costing 500 dollars and such high prices only discourage people from formats where they hate the reserve list and all things it represents. And with print in demand you will have people who are truly collectors rather than speculators flock to old cards while new players will be more than happy to use the new cards everyone knows WotC prints and therefore has no reason to think they are fake. Second strike.

3.) BWAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. So you are saying "This can already happen if you do a series of steps under a completely unrelated steps". Third strike, you are out.

And hey, fuck me all you want, you are still wrong.

This tiny group of individuals who everyone agrees is a cancer to the community are not the ones WotC should try to gain the trust of.

Additionally, while possible, promissory estoppel laws in this case would have a very hard time being proven considering there was no consideration involved from WotC. I cannot claim estoppel from Dell after buying it from a friend because I heard owners of their computer would get free life-time insurance on their products but then changed policies. Now, if WotC had sold them directly, it would be a completely different manner, but in this case? Not really.

The possibility of having more good cards is exactly what would kill limited. There are certain things that they reserve for uncommon and up, rare and up, and mythic only. If a player gets a bunch of rares in their sealed pool, guess who's winning that tournament? Granted, it may not affect draft as much, but it would destroy sealed.

Like I said, in most cases it wouldn't be worth the money for them to print cards on demand. You'd have to be mentally deficient to honestly think I meant that there would be no profit from print power 9 and the like to order. However they make more money doing what they do now, because either players or stores have to be buying a ton of boosters to crack the cards they want to play or sell. Wizards' profits would fucking plummet because people that care more about playing the game than collecting would just buy the 20 or so cards they need from the new set and then buy nothing else until the next set comes out. There's also the reserved list, but I'll get to that later since you still don't understand why they can't go back on that.

How are the steps unrelated to getting your set of cards if that's what they lead to?

Now to the reserved list again. Promissory estoppel can be claimed by a third party, the right is known as jus tertii.

Now get out of here with your shitty outlived baseball joke and complete lack of knowledge of business and law.

-This is exactly what people keep saying in regards to limited: the pool somehow affects who wins. Sadly for you, it doesn't work that way, it hasn't worked that way, and I really doubt it will work that way. The ability to see pools and construct decks is the skill being tested in limited, and if you think because more rares are available that will somehow change then you haven't played limited for too long.

-It's like you cannot read: pricing it based upon boosters would ignore what you are saying and leave only people with the big desire to buy those cards to pay for the premium you are asking for a single card. If I need 20 cards and price them at higher than a booster, I have just made as much or more money in that regard, and with the rarity-less packs involved it actually will turn out to be a more economical bet to buy packs, in addition to the whole "variable reward" thing I mentioned which keep people doing things which aren't truly beneficial to them economically based upon other options.

-Getting a MTGO account, proceeding to get the cards, and then waiting until they can get you physical copies doesn't sound unrelated to the whole playing thing?

- No, my friend, jus tertii has nothing to do with that as far as my admittedly small experience as a legal clerk has shown, and you wouldn't be able to use it to make a solid case of Promissory estoppel in this situation because there was no promise attach to it to you, the secondary buyer, because that's not even related. But hey, /tg/ legal adviser, I want to see you make a brief where you somehow manage to even get a judge to give the time of day to your case in the USA legal system. Other place's incidental beneficiaries (if you can even call them that in this case) have different rights.

In other words, fuck off, you ignorant self-aggrandizing twat.

>> No.30142253

It's not that feet are inherently cock-like. A footjob is something I don't understand as being better than alternatives but if you're way into feet I can dig that.
What confuses me is the propensity for "I wish she'd tie me up and force me to suck stuff". It seems like a way to live out homosex fantasy without the guilt of actually sucking a dick willingly.

I think if you want to suck a dick you should be honest about it and suck a dick, not hide behind a toe fetish.

God damn it, I'm going to have to split this across multiple posts to explain to you how wrong you are.

Wow, you really must be a dumbass if you don't understand how having more rares would give someone more bombs in limited, and that if you have a lot of bombs in your deck it greatly increases your chances of winning. Are bombs the sole determining factor in who wins in limited? No, but it's a pretty big factor as it is, and somebody that gets 7 bombs in color is going to fair a lot better than the player that got all commons except for 5 uncommons. But then again, I shouldn't expect a person that admittedly doesn't care about limited to understand it either.

>> No.30143302

It's like you can't even do basic statistics or math. People won't go buying singles from Wizards unless the price is less then secondary market's price. And once enough people did that, it would eventually bring the secondary market's prices down to match. Eventually there would be no reason to buy directly from Wizards. And in the case of staple rares that still have a low price, for example the Temples from Theros block that go for about $5 on average, you'd actually be losing money in that case because the amount of money you'd make from off of how many packs would normally have to be opened for one of those to enter the wild is significantly less than the profit you'd make from selling one directly. And assuming you're talking about keeping the distribution of common:uncommon:rare:mythic the same, just spread over multiple packs instead of in a single pack, then your idea is actually economically indistinguishable from what they do now once a person has bought enough packs (my back of the envelope math shows around 15). And the variable reward thing is already present in multiple forms. For one there's the infrequency of mythics showing up in packs, then there are the chase rares compared to the non-chase rares, and the rares you are looking for versus the ones you don't care about.

Again, if it gets you to your goal, how is it unrelated to the goal? And you were talking about purchasing the cards, not playing them. Don't try to move those goalposts.

>> No.30143327

Just tertii has absolutely everything to do with why they haven't repealed the restricted list. Jus tertii applies when the third party (in this example, anybody who has bought or traded for things on the reserved list on the secondary market) is the intended beneficiary of the contract, and the third-party has acted on the belief that the promise or contract was made in good faith.

Just admit that Wizards has much more talented and experience people than you who know what they're doing, and that you have no idea what you're talking about and no experience operating a business.
