What is Tacticool?

What is Operator?

What are the differences between them?

>> No.27211699
File: 5 KB, 233x111, image.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

Rolled 4

Wrong board dude I'll tell you anyways. Tacticool is basically putting rail accessories on a gun just for the sake of looking "cool". An operator is basically spec ops.

>> No.27211788

Oh ok.

So one is fake, the other can be cool or can be lame (or hilareous) over-reaction?

>> No.27211816

>Wrong board dude

I've been seeing the terms used on /tg/ and in /tg/ IRC chatrooms so that is why I asked here.

>> No.27211850

I nearly always hear Tacticool used in a pejorative sence. Operator seems to be used both positively and negatively.

What does it usually mean when used negatively?

>> No.27211881

Tacticool is not just having rails on your gun, but thinking that you have to have something bolted onto every inch of rail you have. Tacticool is having two flashlights, three lasers, an eotech, and one of those sights that attaches at an angle whose name I can't recall at the moment. Having say, just a foregrip or a bipod is not, both would be straddling the line.

>> No.27211907

When used in a derogatory fashion it is meant to insult those that think of themselves as operator. When used in such a manner the word is usually typed in all caps.

>> No.27211908
File: 90 KB, 751x1023, OPERATOROPERATOROPERATOR.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

Operator isn't so much used negatively, as it is ironically, for when something tries too hard to associate itself with Operators. Pic, for example, is a parody of FN's ads for the semi-auto civilian market versions of their SCAR rifle series. If you've seen the original ads, it's a rather apt mocking.

>> No.27211922

Style > Practicality

>> No.27211931
File: 71 KB, 533x800, 3_138.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

As I understand, operator is a word used by arms and accessory companies to sell tacticool stuff.

The user of the gear (be it sights, boots, knives, holsters, fancy magazines, et cetera) is referred to as an Operator, thus implying that the buyer of said stuff is like a spec ops, even if they are not an enlisted soldier.

It is just marketing, but now the term operator implies an elite fighter. Tacticool is derisive, and can be applied to pretty much anything, depending on the viewpoint.

>> No.27211952

>> No.27212009

>It is just marketing, but now the term operator implies an elite fighter.
To be fair, Operator DID originate as a term used by SFOD-D to differentiate between the unit's support personnel and the doorkickers. It then spread throughout the American Special Ops community, to the point where most were at least familiar with it, and some had adopted it themselves because it sounds cool.
It then got ruthlessly grabbed up as a marketing tool.

>> No.27212039

You'll find the best examples when people go overboard.

But really it could be something like putting a red dot sight and a laser pointer on a gun.

Or a IR sight and a flashlight.

Just putting multiple things on the gun that make them redundant.

No, that character sounds like he's an Operator Operating Operationally. Now, as to whether this is apropos, or player wish fulfillment, that we don't know.

>> No.27212185

but since tacticool is usually meant and assumed to be used in a pejorative sense you should probably stick to images showing examples of impractical redundancy yes?

>> No.27212190

Tacticool is a reference to visibly over complicated kit, such as having a gun fully modded with a foregrip, a scope, a flashlight, and an underslung shotgun/grenade launcher attachment not to mention all the kit you've got on your webbing. Tacticool is the fetishistic portrayal modern military and paramilitary equipment, to the point the original point of rails and add-points (flexibility) is lost to a desire to be omni-prepared and have the best shit.

Operator is being a slick, professional soldier. Seldom tacticool because they're too busy being efficient and murdering the fuck out of guys over there.

Raping of existing guns falls under bubbafication, a whole separate category of retarded. While many modern bubbafications are shooting for tacticool, the bubbafication aspect is worse than the tacticool aspect, because of what it does to the base gun. Very true. I'd rather they keep manufacturing modern punches-holes-in-anything arms than cater to my whims.

I guarantee I'd get in if I said I were a deputy subaltern for Senator Cockass, who sits on the Armed Services Committee. Tennesseans have lost their sense of Southern exhibitionism.

The problem there is that my "needs" include owning a Winchester Model 1897. Something a Mossberg 590 simply cannot fulfill. They mossy is a close second, but goddamn if that Winchester is not the model of shotgun perfection.

Not seeing it. Besides, Matebas and Rhinos claim to fame is their dramatic reduction in recoil. Because they fire from the bottom cylinder the recoil impulse is pushed back into the arm instead of over the hand like ina traditional revolver. Oh, and Matebas were semi-auto revolvers on top of that.

But the problem with a .45 isn't that it's not strong enough. It's needlessly powerful (and therefore needlessly heavy) for anything but PCP fiends and large bears. It was invented for the former* and is not mostly used for the latter. Going bigger is pointless.

*Technically what the Filipinos had wasn't modern PCP, but close enough.
