Check out the latest set of Tyranid rumors, which seem to match up with many previous rumors.

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2013/08/tyranid-rumors-it-tore-through-cockpit.html

What are /tg/'s thoughts?

>Erinye is an AA variant in Elite, very different front torso/head piece with gribbly tentacles.
>Increased Swoop speed and its gimmick is grappling other flyers.

>sign me up for a giant flying gribbly that GRAPPLES enemy flyers and tears them apart in assault.
>and tears them apart in assault.

Sounds like once it grapples a flyer it will be considered to be in assault with it after the shooting phase.

Which, combined with the Smash rule, makes these things sound utterly terrifying.

Since it sounds like they've turned Old Red Leaper into standard unit upgrade options, I really hope to see the Tyranid Prime as a troop upgrade instead of/as well as a HQ. With just 2 HQ slots, I'm never going to find space to field him

>> No.26803469

>>26803405
I don't think so, they only seem to be doing that to named special characters, like Doom is a special zoanthrope, etc.

The Prime is supposed to be an entirely different breed of warrior.

There is precedent for it at least. The Broodlord used to be a HQ choice, then was demoted to sergeant.

That is a good point.

I personally do not see it happening, but doing so would certainly open up the sow for this new "Big Bug" HQ.

>no FOC/ally changes

All we really need is +1 to everything except maybe troops when at/below 2000 pts.

Don't have much to say on Psychic powers until we see the full tables and see what's still a Psyker and what their availability is. Supercharging powers might be a sign that we'll actually have Psykers higher than ML 1 besides Swarmlord, though.

>Ravenous Advance: Units with this rule can run & assault in the same turn.

Possibly useful, but also possibly bringing back the difficulties of synapse control range. If this were simply inserted into the current codex I wouldn't give a damn, but you can be assured that IB is changing and will have actual drawbacks for this edition. I can't see Warriors having this rule, which means the units that probably will (Hormagaunts, Rippers, Raveners) are going to be outpacing them.

>The Ground Trembles: All MC cause d3 Hammer of Wrath hits.

Will help Carnies out a little bit.

>Red Terror, Deathleaper and Old One Eye are unique upgrades to their respective broods.

Red Terror being a Ravener upgrade? Or a potential upgrade for a Trygon/Mawloc?

>Harpy/Erinye stuff

Sounds interesting, don't have any plans for adding any more FMCs to my army but depending on how the model looks I might pick one up for modeling.

We still need to hear good things about:

>alleviating dedicated melee units not being able to do anything after arriving from reserves
>prohibitive MC costs, given that we're going to have even more of them now
>how synapse will work this edition

Army-wide notes
>- No FOC and ally table
>- Devastation and Adaptation are new power tables with 3 powers each + primaris.
>- Primaris for Devastation = Warp Blast, Adaptation = Onslaught (similar to battle-focus)
>- All Tyranid powers can be used with either one or two charges to increase the effect.
>- Ravenous Advance: Units with this rule can run & assault in the same turn.
>- The Ground Trembles: All MC cause d3 Hammer of Wrath hits.
>- Red Terror, Deathleaper and Old One Eye are unique upgrades to their respective broods
>- Harpy/Erinye, plastic dual kit.
>- Harpy is designed to kill infantry hordes/provide support via its special vector strike.
>- Vector striking it can either use Spore Mine Cyst to create blasts along the path or Sonic Screech to halve initiative and cause a pinning test.

>- Increased Swoop speed and its gimmick is grappling other flyers.
>- Vector strike -> dice roll 4+ -> the enemy flyer is dragged directly behind where the Erinye ended its move, including a new facing.
>- Both can buy broods of Gargoyles that can drop off in the movement phase when not vector striking.
>-zoanthrope (Doom)/Genethrope, plastic dual kit.
>- Zoanthropes are ML1 psykers, have access to the Devastation, Telepathy, Telekinesis tables.
>- Genethropes are similar, but have access to the Adaptation and Biomancy tables.
>- New unique biomorphs. Increased Shadow in the Warp range, Deny the Witch boost aura, two others.
>- Both types can upgrade up to ML2 but only ever get 1 power, each Elite choice is a unit of 1-3 that can contain mixded Zoan and Gene.
>- Doom has access to all the above tables and comes with Essence Leech and 3 powers.
>- Consumes a wound every time it uses a power (except for Leech), but can keep casting until a Perils roll or its down to 1 wound.
>- Mycetic Spore/Mycetic Hive Node, plastic dual kit

>- Nodes provide Synapse and can be configured in one of many ways. Grants poison or shrouding to nearby units or terraforms (Dangerous Terrain) the surroundings.
>-Carnifex
>- Old unused bimorphs in the box are options again.
>- Base cost the same but upgrades are much, much cheaper overall but lots of "only buy 1 out of this list" kind of choices which greatly limits what a fex can have.
>- Tusked gives HoW an AP value, Thornback increases the number of HoW hits.
>- Enhanced Senses gives Night Fighting.
>- Tail Scythe & Tail Mace each deliver a single hit to all models in BtB at Ini 1, with different stats.
>- Living Battering Ram rule: Changed to allow the Carnifex to assault the contents of a building/transport on a 4+ if it was destroyed by its charge, rolled once for the brood.

Why do people (especially on BOLS) keep saying "genestealer cults don't fight alongside the tyranid invasions portrayed by the codex/rulebook" ?

The 2E rulebook has a spread photo of blood angels (or maybe ultramarines) fighting against tyranid invasion of warriors and termagants. There are genestealer hybrids and a magus ambushing the space marines alongside the bugs.

Nids fight alongside genestealer cults, even during full invasions. The synapse creatures can control hybrids like any other tyranid organism and in the end they jump in the digestion pools the same as the rest.

Other than new psykic powers and the Harpy/Erinye, 80% to 90% of this shit is simply restoring all of the worth while stuff that was stripped out of the 4th Edition codex in the 5th Edition Cruddex. I wish that GeeDubs Nids codex authors would figure out that they do NOT need to totally reinvent the wheel each time a new edition comes out. They don't change the stats for Bolters or Las guns between editions.

Most of the rumored items there are "Oh yeah, umm.. The Nids are an assault based army. They might be more appealing if they could live long enough to carry out some assaults." As opposed to now where they arrive, stand around for a turn getting themselves junk-punched, and then try to do something.

Sadly, with rumors that Ward is writing the new dex I'm less than enthused. While I look forward to the part in fluff where the Nids coat themselves in the blood of slain Grey Knights to purify themselves (apparently they were fresh out of Sisters for some strange reason...), I can only image that in typical Ward fashion we'll get over-powered shit that no one will want to play against. Add in the $50 to $60 price tag on the current books and I still haven't purchased a single codex to date.

i agree, sitw works completely fine the way it is. The rest though....overhaul inbound.

My friend recently showed me one of the older Nid Codices of their former glory days. I am unsure of which edition it was, but the Carnifex had pages of options......and genestealers had options to climb buildings. If only gents...if only.

Sounds like 4th ed, 3rd ed had the same climb walls thing but fexs in that had even less options than the 5th ed one.

That would be the 4th Edition codex. When Carnifex could be customized into walking gun platforms, medium range dakka, or various 'Hulk SMASH!' configurations. Not all of the options were worth taking, but it was a blast being able to surprise your opponent and always keep them guessing.

That would be 'Flesh Hooks' and lots of Nids had them. Acted like Frag Grenades allowing the Nids to charge into cover without going dead last in HTH... But then that was when termigants were useful with living ammo, and Warriors weren't just walking VPs for your opponent too.
