26716104 No.26716104 [Reply] [Original] [4plebs] [archived.moe]

I wanna try out the Regiment Creation rules for Only War, and cooperation is fun. So let's make an Imperial Guard regiment.
We have 12 points to spend.

First, we'll need a homeworld or origin (point cost is in parentheses).

Pick one:
Death World (3)
Fortress World (3)
Highborn (3)
Hive World (3)
Imperial World (1)
Penal Colony (2)
Penitent (3)

They're fancypants highborns. This basically means they're better at dealing with bureaucracy and the upper class, as well as having somewhat better education and equipment than the average Guardsman. On the downside, people below them on the social ladder (i.e most other soldiers and civilians) think they're kind of dicks, and it will be harder to deal with them. Also, they get one less wounds, since they grew up without all that hardening filth that covers most Imperial citizens.

Now let's pick the personality of our Commanding Officer:

Bilious (2)
Circumspect (2)
Choleric (2)
Fixed (1)
Maverick (2)
Melancholic (2)
Phlegmatic (1)
Sanguine (2)
Supine (1)

As a Drop Troops regiment, they believe that the only manly way to enter a battle is by jumping right into it, guns a blazing. After they've hit the ground, it's often every man for himself until they manage to join up with the rest of the team.
They're equipped with grav-chutes and get an agility bonus, but also a fellowship penalty since they're used to fight for themselves.

Seems like the sort of decision theyd make.

"we can only drop a few, so we have to drop the best. Whos the best? Well? The upper classes of course and they are constantly siring many heirs which they cant find jobs for in the family buisness!"

Also, i vote for combat drugs, but less the bane kind and more the super running endurance kind.

Their favoured weapons are pump-action shotguns and missile launchers.

Each soldier is issued a standard kit, which includes the following:

One uniform
One set of poor weather gear
One lascarbine (Main Weapon) and four charge packs
One knife
One suit of Imperial Guard flak armour
One respirator
One grav-chute
Two frag grenades
Two smoke grenades
One rucksack or sling bag
One set of basic tools
One mess kit and one water canteen
One blanket and one sleep bag
One rechargeable lamp pack
One grooming kit
One set of cognomen tags (ID)
One copy of the Guardsman's Uplifting Primer
Combat sustenance rations, two weeks' supply

In addition to this, you have 32 points to buy additional gear for the standard kit. These items will be given to all soldiers in the regiment "for free".

I also motion that we apply the "impact jel" to whatever armor we use. The rules for it are in RT hostile acquisitions. It seems suitably fancy and would help by decreasing the chance of impact drop deaths. It also provides +2 armor points to all damage from weapons with the I type; hammers, shotguns, falling etc. I believe this upgrade was rare so its 5pts, although it might be better.

Well i still thought we should have lascarbines. But on the other hand, theres no point in making binoculars on the standard kit EVERY guardsman uses. Their a one off thing for individuals who need them. And the guy who suggested it just lost speaking privileges.

All that aside, we still have to decide if we want scopes, and in what form our NVG abilities are going to take. I still support prey sence scope considering its expensive and rare to be used.

Keep in mind that this is just what every single soldier is issued with, even if something isn't in the standard kit it may still be available from the armory. And thanks to their doctrines and background, it's pretty easy for them to find a krak grenade when they need to.

These things go well with a variety of hat; you could do the Helghast thing, but with a brim to make a porkpie or bowler look, and traditionally Bauta masks are also worn with a half-cape or high-collared jacket as well. Perfect to mix with a greatcoat for a good russian/german WWII look mixed in.

Commonly used Sikh colors are orange, white, blue, and black. Orange is probably the one you want to go with because it, along with a vibrant blue, are the official colors sort of. Yellow is happiness, blue is tranquility, white is purity, red is for weddings, black is humility, etc.

I know the Sikhs don't have a caste system, but I figure our guys wouldn't just be completely based on them. We have a bit of Venice in there too, after all, as well as the general noble dickery that 40k nobles are famous for.

>> No.26720760

Let's have a vote: should orange be their theme colour, thus fully embracing the Space Sikhs idea?

>> No.26720772

I wouldnt mind orange trim.

>> No.26720773

No it seems a bit garish

>> No.26720784

And a bit of German flavour with the name.

>> No.26720786

>> No.26720788

Maybe as a subtle part of the scheme

>> No.26720795

Ah, I see. My bad for not reading the entire thread.

If you do have any questions about Sikhi then just ask I guess.

>> No.26720802

I can see it as trim, but not the main colour. My 2 cents.

How does it feel to belong to the most badass religion?

Two votes for yes, three votes for just as trimming/detail and one for no.

Like any other religion I guess. It's just a militaristic Hindu/Buddhist/Islam mixture. Go to Gurdwara (temple) every once in a while, don't cut your hair, wear funny hats, meditate in the mornings before sunrise if it is feasible to do so.

I could be better at it I guess. I shouldn't drink as much but like any other member of any other religion I pick and choose bits I believe are the best and relevant. Also my swordsmanship skills are crap. I should probably go to a fencing school.

Also here's some pictures of Sikh warriors if you want.

>> No.26720947

Also this stuff is good anyone want to archive this?

>> No.26720972

Also a vote for full orange. Sikhs are garrish and proud. Like Space Marines.

>> No.26721000

Orange trimming it is, then. What's the main colour? White or black seems like popular suggestions? I'd say dark gray.

>> No.26721019

Sure, go ahead. I never archive my own threads, though. It feels tacky.

>> No.26721038

Black for drop troops. As Sikh bro said, black is the color of humility, these guys humble themselves by descending to the heretics below and purging them.

White for aircrew and pilots.

>> No.26721040

Dark gray sounds cool

>> No.26721041

Another question: do their formal dress and their field uniforms differ in colour? And how fancy are their field uniforms?

>> No.26721079

I like dark grey. Maybe vary the tone based on rank, with the grunts being almost black and the officers fading to almost white?

>> No.26721092

I would imagine field uniforms would bend more towards practicality, with some flare in the orange trim, or a flash of abnormally shiny metal here and there.

>> No.26721126

And archived. i just stated the basics ides as a description

>> No.26721139

Anyone got any blank templates for IG uniforms I could test out colour schemes on? I'm reinstalling DoW II to do some mock-ups, but it will take a while.

Saved, in case I ever do a follow-up thread. Although they need turbans and/or berets.

Nah, I just shamelessly modified the Mordian one. There MIGHT be a template, but if there is, I haven't found it.
