Apocalypse thread?

I'm also thinking of converting the Necron Tesseract Vault/Obelisk to something Tzeentchian.
Thoughts on this?

Go for it. One of the best things about Apocalypse is being able to convert up some really crazy centerpiece models for your army, since you've got such a huge plethora of statlines to choose from.

I thought apocalypse was always "take what you want, fluff doesn't matter" when it came to actual rules. Allying anyone with everyone and making new datasheets for random ass creations.

Well, the old book said you can ally bitter enemies in a battle, such as CSM and normal Space Marines.

We've never had any problems with table space. Just slap enough to them together in shapes that allow players to reach over to various areas (or fill areas you can't reach with impassable terrain). And you get plenty of space when you you the length of the table to your advantage. We had one table which was, I believe, 10m in length and both armies started from the ends. it got wider in the middle, which made a good central combat zone with support units like artillery and shit being able to sit back while actual combat units could move in towards the center to take hold of the objectives, which also gave their holder stratagems, like orbital strikes and shit.

I think Hot-shot Lasguns went back to hellguns in 3rd edition, so if it is from 3rd edition for later it might have been after IG got their 5th edition codex changing Hellguns back to Hot-shot lasguns.

To put it simply as far as HSLG/Hellgun name goes
No such thing existed in RT to my knowledge, storm troopers got them in the 2nd Edition codex, they went back to hellguns in the 3rd edition codex, and went back to hot-shot lasguns in the 5th edition codex.

Then again it could have just been made up by someone making this whole attempt to find out how old it is pointless.

So what did they just play a bunch of 3000 point battles right next to each other? So cool, I mean it really feels like some massive battle with none of the armies effecting anything next to them. Seriously, it looks like the shitty 100,000 point battles miniwargaming did. So epic, a long line of tables where nothing actually effects anything next to it.

Apocalypse can be done well, forming two long lines of super heavies (like the cool guy with those baneblades) and firing at each other at point blank range isn't one of them. Do something like what the anons in this thread suggested, a long battlefield that gets wider towards the middle motivating both sides to advance so they are less clustered and focusing the battle in the middle.

The front row of tables in the foreground and the 2nd row in the background not only exchanged fire, but units could and did cross over. >> No.25842860

You see, the problem with that is that when titans are scaled down that small, the architectural features on top of the Imperator and the shoulder guns on the Warlord don't make much sense. Never said a damn thing about practical or impractical. Just that people suddenly demand Titans to be massive like in the old artwork. I'd consider plenty of that stuff as atmosphere building, rather than picture-realistic depictions. Much like Blance's pieces, which some hate for not being 100% accurate depictions of specific things from the world.

If we take the size of titans as given from the art, then we have to take everything else, right? Like hundreds of square kilometers of battleground just littered with dudes all over in one big moshpit, vehicles rolling over everyone with little regard for anything, tanks of unknown pattern, etc.

Look at this. Where are all those people coming from? Are they moving over a really steep hill? Why is no one minding the terribly steep ground and look like they're all moving forwards, even when they're all stacked on top of each other like a literal human wave? You just look at it, and you can pick the atmosphere, the smoke and battle and little regard for anything else (how much do you even see the ground in that, it's all guns and dudes and skulls and dust), but if you really start going over it anally, you can bitch about this and that till the cows come home.

Maybe instead of all these things, we should look into old fluff on titans. Are their size mentioned anywhere?

>> No.25843220

Well, don't forget, you're also looking up, so the top of it is way further away than its feet. And at least I can make way more detailed and sharper lines on the titan than on the ship. You can't even make out any guns on that ship and I'm pretty sure even a troop lander would carry more arsenal on it for close defense than any titan could muster on its own.

>> No.25843443
File: 198 KB, 1024x768, imperator.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google] [report]

By my quick calculations, from the ground to the top of the parapet on the back, it's around 57m (assuming the dude at its feet was 2m tall). Doesn't seem that impossible to me. I'm thinking they'd set the height to somewhere permanent, as those spires can be replaced by gun emplacements and shit, lowering the height and making different Imperators have different height. So setting the "official height" on like the parapet or the eye level of the titan, would make more sense.

Still not as big as in some of the artwork (where there's tiny specks fighting on the toes of the feet), but still big enough to fill in the same purpose of having two churches for legs and a fortress on the back. I'm sure there's plenty of room there for a few companies of soldiers.

And look at this one with the Epic scale buildings - not ruins. Though its less than an ideal image, one can see a Warhound on the left that's 4 stories high, and the Reaver is 6 stories easily

They are not the right size in Epic 40k. In the same way Forgeworld epic aircraft are much larger than the standard Epic. Forge world was going to make a true scale 6mm titan game. The titans were going to be much larger. Like twice as large at least.

>> No.25845119

How in the hell do you even put that on the field?!

that seems more like a terrain piece then anything

>> No.25845529

But the 'right size' compared to what? You'd need some authoritative source for how big Titans are supposed to be.

Do you actually think epic is to scale? An epic thunderhawk for example. The Forgeworld variant is the correct scale.
Its much larger than the standard version.

>> No.25845731

Judging by how the legs synch up with the depressions and crater, I'd say it's a terrain piece.

So what do vanilla marines bring to the table in an apocalypse match (I've no real experience)? As far as I can tell all the cool imperial stuff is IG (Baneblades, tank spam, titans, bombers, etc). Is the thunderhawk their only superweapon-type thing?

>> No.25845758

I wish they'd make an SM flyer that looks like the epic model. It's so sleek and cool looking.

And like the IG they can get support assigned to them from the Imperial Navy and Titan Legions.

Its not really that. Its the assumption epic is true scale. Its not really the miniatures are more of a place holder.

>Are they moving over a really steep hill?

Yes, a step hill that consists almost entirely of skulls.

That's what I love about the 40k setting, that they can make such scenarios seem normal or even mundane. It's over the top but in a good way. Planets with 20 billion people living in a single mega city, oceans boiled away to make room for more factories or to mine them, no breathable atmosphere and factories that be seen from space and span entire continents? Just another forgeworld, nothing special about it.

>> No.25846678

>Just another forgeworld, nothing special about it.

Forge Worlds are VERY special what are you talking about. Defend that shit to the death.

>> No.25846731

The fluff sometimes talk about worlds with no value being defended to the death.
Very kewl grime darke.

>> No.25846985

Not really, many have been left to fall to the enemy. They have to protect those worlds due to an ancient pact, not for tactical reasons.

>The Emperor came before the Mechanicum Parliament on Mars, pledging that in return for supply arms to his armies and building a mighty war fleet, the Emperor would protect and the respect the sovereignty of the Mechanicum's Forge Worlds.

The Imperium has to keep it's end of the bargain. Both because it's their duty to serve the emperor’s will and because they have a symbiotic relationship with them.

Well, until FW came out with that Mammoth Tank wannabe, Fellblade was Baneblade. And Glaive was Shadowsword.

Titans are Adeptus Mechanicus, bombers Navy. There's no reason Admech or the Navy couldn't support a Marine force in their fight. Then there's, for example, the Hercules heavy tank, which, from what I can tell, comes with a battle cannon and 3 lascannons, or alternatively the command version has 5 lascannons.

And didn't the Blood Ravens "salvage" a Warhound titan at one point? As well as that Hellstorm cannon from Dark Crusade?
