Yeah, probably. The idea was kinda cute at first, buncha fa/tg/uys end up in fantasyland and bumble their way to success while seeking to accomplish the most neckbeardy of achievements, like rubbing some elf ears. But like WHH, people took the idea way too seriously and then took it way too far and now there is nothing left to salvage.

Why do you fags persist? WHH is dead. The Writefags are gone, the Questfag has departed to MSPA (where no-one will ever go) and the whole thing is tainted, even if I can't see why.

Waifu is a term so banded about it's lost all meaning, and that seems to be the case here. You all say it's Waifufaggotry. Well give me an example!

Just face facts. It's dead and buried. The Writers will never return, and it should be allowed to fade, save only for what has already been done before, resting in 1d4chan where it belongs. Out of sight, out of mind.

Though there was one writefag who showed up, but apparantly he caused such a massive rift in the few remaining writefags, which led to lots of infighting and split them up for good. There was some nasty comments telling people not to read his story posted by one of the other writefags.

If the WHH writefags are infighting, you know the franchsie is dead.

Oh, and for interest (and so no-one else has to venture to that cursed place), here is the WHH quest.

Since this thread has progressed as everyone assumed it would, I figure I can air my grievances towards why WHH bothers me in a narrative sense. And that lies with the central conceit of WHH - the existence Daughters.

The Daughters, quite frankly, have utterly no reason to exist. The explanation for them is that the primarchs needed to go home and become a family man because there was nothing left to fight. Which would have been good and dandy had they stuck to the lighthearted Warless Warhammer High with such silly antics as Yarrick teaching football and all that good stuff. However, political assassinations and attempted suicide are NOT lighthearted. Furthermore, war is still all over the place, meaning the Daughters have literally no reason to exist since the primarchs still need to go to war and them having to worry about whether or not someone kills their daughter back on Terra is actually detrimental to this. And then theres the whole fact that despite the insistence on a very grimdark tone - to keep it authentic to the source material, I guess - it still adopts a very modern tone with modern slang and modern scholastic regimen, all of which throws it utterly out of sync with the grimdeath and pauldrons.

So that's the gist of it, I guess. WHH is simultaneously too much like Warhammer to be likable and enjoyable for the lighthearted antics of Schoolhammer 40K and not nearly Warhammer enough to enjoy the grimdark depression endemic of the series. And at the center of it all you have the Daughters, fluttering about and showing off how oh so very special they are.

>> No.24889174

>>24889114
Some of the authors didn't employ grimdark at all. Some did. Some didn't write the Daughters as special snowflakes, some do. I think you're painting with broad strokes, here.

Though I will say that the reason they exist is that /tg/ willed them to be. I do think some of the stories were much more serious than the original threads intended them to be.

>> No.24889396

>>24889174
All of the stories are more serious than the original premise was. The Writefags wanted to be taken seriously, they wanted to write True Drama or some other strange goal, but they certainly didn't want to write a silly Japanese slice of life comedy in a psuedo-40K setting, despite them keeping all the designs from such a premise. Really, the whole thing just became a huge clusterfuck of clashing ideas on what WHH should even be. Some stories would have been stronger utterly divorced from the daughters and others would have been better without the grim depression of the other stories leaking into them, but on a whole the entire thing was much too dark for such a ridiculous premise. It would be like if Megas XLR starts with Jamie getting tortured and vivisected right in front of Coop and the whole thing just goes downhill from there.

So what you're saying is that people are shoehorning things into the setting that clash with the tone.

IMO, if someone wants to write a grimdark political drama with asassinations and underlying romance subplots, there is no reason to use the WHH setting. It just doesn't fit and can't be taken as anything besides people trying to force grimpderp melodrama into a lighthearted setting that was conceived as a charming parody.

Not sure I agree with that at all, but at least you've taken the time to explain it.

A lot of people have taken time to explain their views, not just me. There are plenty of perfectly valid reasons in this thread as to why WHH is by and large disliked by /tg/.

Good works of fiction have a setting and tone that is consistent throughout. It prevents things from getting muddled. it helps the writing ring true. Some works manage to blend different tones into something profound, but this takes a very talented author and tones that actually make sense next to each other. Having gritty depictions of things like gang violence, drug abuse and violence does NOT go well with highschool romantic comedy. They only clash and make the entire setting as a whole feel like a poorly conceived, muddled, bipolar mess. WHH was meant as a lighthearted, reference laden parody with occasional fanservice and comedy derived from teenage romance. Despite this, a lot of these authors are trying to turn it into something that the setting was created to make fun of.

But you shouldnt have to do that because they should be two completely separate things, seeing as the existence of one setting would mean the nonexistence of the other. If they were shipping folks off to war wholesale then high school would have no use, and if you had time for high school then there would be no great crusade

That is true, but the situation is not that bad. In fact, it's much like the modern day. Look at our world. The reason I can't stand most 40k official fiction is that it never changes from the not of "grimdark". While I like the WHH shorts, if they never go past lighthearted fun, they get stall very fast.

IMHO Someoneelse added some interesting variety to the basic tone. It lightened 40k enough to not be a drag, and it added some meat to WHH so it could keep going.

I don't know how anyone could read an entire novel-length story by SomeoneElse though, holy shit that was hard to read. They interject action or they don't put it at all, assuming the reader can inference who's speaking. Doesn't work all the time, but it's a lot less... I don't know what the word I'm looking for is here. And here's a rough draft fro a WHH story i started on but wrote myself into a corner on about a year back.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Venus was worried. She hadn’t seen Hana all day, even though Hana had promised to meet her in the cafeteria after lunch to study for the coming math exam. She looked out over the crowd of students milling about, going to and coming from their classes, in hope of spotting her friend amongst the throng of students. No luck there.

“Hey Venus!” A heavy metal hand landed her on her shoulder. “What’s up? You’re looking all gloomy today.”
“Oh, hey Farah. Yeah, I’m a bit worried. Have you seen Hana today? She was supposed to meet me here to study for the math exam but I haven’t seen her at all today.”
“No… I haven’t. You know, that’s weird. Hana doesn’t usually miss appointments with her friends.”

“Hey gearheads!” Both Venus and Farah spun around as they recognized the unmistakable voices of the twins, Alpharia and Omegan.
“What do you two want?” Venus asked, frowning. She was still irritated by the new nickname the two twins had given her and Farah about a week back.
“We heard you talk about Hana. We saw her earlier today when she came to school.” Alpharia said with that smirk that Venus always associated with one or both of the twins having some mischief in the making.

“So why haven’t she been to class then? You two seem to know all that’s going on around here.” Farah said, still a bit suspicions of the two twins.
“Oh, haven’t you heard? The whole school is abuzz with the news. There there’s to be an unsanctioned fight in the school Martial Arts arena.” Alpharia said.
“And if the rumors are true it will be the grudgematch of the millennium!” Omegan chimed in with glee.

Venus looked at Farah and then back at the twins.
“So she’s gone to watch the fight? That’s not like her at all. Wonder if she’s got a crush on one of the fighters or something?“
“No silly! She IS one of the fighters!” Omegan said smiling at Venus and Farahs horrified expressions.

No, fuck you, /tg/ doesnt get to be selective. You dont get to try to make an entire setting and rule system based off of your genderbender transformation fetish and then say a couple of ubermensch lesbians is taking things too far.
