Bombings

The finish line, 54 minutes before the first explosion

On Patriots' Day, Monday, April 15, 2013, the annual Boston Marathon began without any indications of an imminent attack.[4] Officials swept the area for bombs twice before the explosions; one of the sweeps occurred an hour before the bombs went off. People were able to come and go freely, and carry items in and out of the area.

At 2:49 p.m. EDT (18:49 UTC), two bombs detonated on Boylston Street near Copley Square about 200 yards (180 m) apart,[6] just before the finish line.[4] The first exploded outside Marathon Sports at 671–673 Boylston Street at 2:49:43 p.m. EDT; the second, one block farther west at 755 Boylston Street at 2:49:57 p.m. EDT.

The bombs were improvised explosive devices containing explosives, bits of metal, and bearing balls, placed in black nylon duffel bags or backpacks.[10][11][12] One device was described as a pressure cooker bomb, thought to be made using a Fagor-brand pressure cooker; the other device was housed in a metal container of unclear construction. About 13 seconds passed between the two blasts. The blasts blew out windows on adjacent buildings but did not cause any structural damage.

At the time of the first explosion, the race clock at the finish line showed 04:09:43. The bombs detonated about two hours after the winner crossed the finish line,[9] with more than 5,700 runners yet to finish. Some runners continued to cross the line until 2:57 p.m., eight minutes after the explosions.

Bomb

A person who was briefed on the investigation said at least one of the devices was made from a pressure cooker packed with shards of metal, nails, and bearing balls to inflict maximum casualties and was placed in a backpack. The lid of one pressure cooker was found on a nearby rooftop. Investigators have found remains of an electronic circuit board that was possibly used in the timer of the bomb. Gun powder was most likely used in the explosive devices.

MIT shooting and Watertown incident

On April 18, one of the suspects was photographed in a 7-Eleven in Cambridge, MA, apparently attempting to rob it for cash.

A shooting then occurred on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, near Building 32 (Stata Center) at 10:48 p.m. EDT (02:48 UTC, April 19).[71] Multiple shots were fired. Sean Collier, 26, an MIT police officer from Somerville, Massachusetts[73] who was seated in his police car, received multiple gunshot wounds.[74] Collier was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in nearby downtown Boston, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspects then carjacked a silver Mercedes SUV in Cambridge and forced the owner to use his ATM card to obtain $800 in cash. They then released the man when the ATM cash limit was reached. The suspects had told the man that they were responsible for the Boston bombings. Policed chased the vehicle to Watertown, Massachusetts.

Police in Watertown reported that they exchanged gunfire with two suspects following the shooting, with explosions and automatic weapon fire heard.[79] Later in the night, The Boston Globe reported that the shooting suspects were the same men being sought in the Marathon bombings.

A Watertown resident observed the two suspects exchanging gunfire with police and throwing a bomb at them, which exploded. One suspect was captured, the other managed to escape with the S.U.V.

During the morning of April 19, after the car chase and exchange of fire with law enforcement, one suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was taken by police to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he died of multiple gunshot wounds.[76][80] The FBI released additional photos of the two suspects during the Watertown incident.[81] The second suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, sometimes referred to as the "white-hat suspect",[82] is "still at large", according to law enforcement officials.

Security Guard

The primary duty of a security guard is to keep his or her eyes open for illegal activities, especially trespassing. When these activities are observed, they are supposed to call the police, not make a "citizen's" arrest. In many cases, it is illegal for security guards to carry guns in their line of work. They earn their pay by keeping insurance rates on the building they protect low.

Security guards are often former police officers (who would probably have more levels than this example).

The underlying system was designed for a fantasy game, and it shows. With Savage Worlds, even if you're the equivalent of a level 20 character, you still need to worry about being shot.

Being shot isn't the end of the road. Your attacker rolls damage and hopes to beat your Toughness, which is a threshold that most weapons should be able to beat (and that you can enhance with body armour or upping your stats).
Depending on whether the attack manages to beat your Toughness and how much it does this by, you can suffer a flesh wound/have the bullet bounce off, be reduced to a bleeding, screaming or gurgling mess on the floor in urgent need of medical attention, or all points in between.

It's easy to shoot someone in SW, it's the equivalent of a standard non-combat action unless your target grabbed cover or has an Edge (like a Feat) that makes them tougher to hit. In short, if you don't think in a Savage Worlds game, you are going to die. Horribly.

Average toughness is around 5, and damage depends on weapons. Pistols and submachineguns do 2d6 damage, assault rifles do 2d8, and a Barrett .50 does 2d10.
Beat the target's toughness by 3 or less and they take a flesh wound which stuns them (being Shaken in game terms), leaving them wide open to followup attacks. Beat it by four or higher and they take a wound. Mooks can only take one before dropping, player characters and general big cheeses can take three (which go down faster than you'd think - every 4 over that Toughness is an extra wound).
Fail to beat that Toughness and your shot either nicks them, bounces off whatever armour they had on, or does nothing more than piss the guy off.

Remember, mods don't do jack-shit unless a post is reported at least 10 times.

Unarmoured average human is roughly 4 or 5, it's tied to your Vigor die size (SW uses a die size mechanic to denote stats and skills, from d4 to d12).
A normal Kevlar vest gives you an extra two points of Toughness, but this doubles to four if you're being shot at because lolbooletproof. You can get heavier Kevlar suits that boosts the bonus up to 8 versus bullets, 4 versus everything else.
