It's not dumb, just... the creator has a german sense of humor and a britfag's grasp of guns... and it's a comedy show based around gunNEEEEEEEEERDery.

I see nothing that could go wrong with this.

and in the LA85A1's defense, the jamming problem was never doublefeeds or stovepiping, it's just that the A1 as so poorly made the gas feed would leak, and then the gun wouldn't cycle properly, with the end result that the chamber would recoil but wouldn't have enough gas to return the chamber back into position pick up a new round until you hit the pointed the thing at the ground and wacked it repeatedly.

And yes, trai/n/spotters, pic is a vespa with, yes /k/ommandos, a bazooka weilded on it's frame.

The French paratroopers who went into Algeria to kick the post-imperialism out of some africans during the 50s parachuted into rebellious villages with these.

It depended heavily on the elevation of the launcher, the smaller yields were safely outside the range of the launcher even on a level plane, but the higher yields (the warhead had a yeild dial on the side that had to be set while it was being prepped to launched) were only designed to be launched when you were ontop of something taller than your target otherwise you would have got a rather nasty tan.

All of which ignores the fact that the REALLY insane thing about the Davy Crockett is the notion of putting nukes in the hands of front-line soldiers. Nuclear arsenals exist as diplomatic tools. Their purpose is to allow a country to say "hey, cut that out" and let the other guy infer the "... or I might glass over your cities" part. Put the things into the hands of Itchy-Trigger Finger Bob and suddenly you can't guarantee that your guys won't nuke people that are cooperating, and that severely damages the incentive to cooperate in the first place.

That said, some really fucked-up shit came out of mulling over what doors nukes opened. I recommend reading up on Project Pluto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Pluto) for some real brick-shitting terror. It's one of very few projects that the US military canned in the Cold War era for being entirely too terrifying - it was feared that if the Russians found out that it was something we had available, they'd want their own automated nuclear warhead-lobbing drones powered by unshielded nuclear ramjets, and then we'd be in a world where two superpowers actually built the damn things. And that proved to be the line that the Pentagon drew saying "no, this is just too fucked up".

They were a little more complicated than just jamming a standard hand grenade into the end of a rifle but yeah if you held your shot too long it would go off in your face.

My roommate bought one of these in Alaska. It's useless as a home defense weapon because it'll go through about 5 walls before it stops, and it's not very good as a bear defense weapon (the supposed reason he bought it) because it's too heavy to conveniently wear on your belt and it's useless once you put it in your pack.

In Alaska they had a saying about pistols as bear defense weapons: Make sure to grind the front sight off so it'll hurt less when the bear shoves it up your ass.

There's a little bit of time involved in removing the grenade and/or adaptor, and usually in chambering/ejecting a blank cartridge.

The US Army. After WWII, and especially after the US Air Force was commissioned in 1947, the prevailing wisdom was that the role of a land army was to hold ground but that nuclear weapons would make doing that job against a nuclear power impossible because any meaningful concentration of troops would get nuked. Therefore, the Army reasoned, it needed some land-based means of using nukes of its own so that they could hold ground with less concentrated troops, thus justifying its share of the defense budget in an era of a "only the USAF and the USN matter strategically" Pentagon.

Fortunately someone figured out that having Davy Crocketts doesn't really mean you can hold ground... it just means you can escalate to all-out MAD in less steps, and you get the same capability offered by the DC by just having bombers circling in your airspace.

There's actually plans in Canada to revive an old 80s project to seed vast areas of damaged wilderness using seedbombs – the system is that you place some seeds in soil, put the seeds and soil inside a little polystyrene container, then launch out the back of a cargo plane.

Only trouble the original 80s program had was that tossing it out the back of a cargo plane would cause the seedbombs to get tossed about in the plane's jet stream in a fashion that the seedbombs weren't designed to cope with too well.

>The US Army. After WWII, and especially after the US Air Force was commissioned in 1947, the prevailing wisdom was that the role of a land army was to hold ground but that nuclear weapons would make doing that job against a nuclear power impossible because any meaningful concentration of troops would get nuked.

The Commies figured that all you had to do was give MORE DAKKA to your soldiers so that the fire density could be kept intact with much less troops covering a given stretch of land.

Reduces losses from nuclear blasts too.

Silenced russian revolver.

Notable feature is that the top tube that you might think is the barrel is actually an integral laser pointer.

The tube that lines up with the bottom chamber of the revolving bit is the actual barrel the bullets come out of.

The Obrez existed because of Russian rebels cutting down the only guns they had, Mosin-Nagant rifles, to stick them under their coats and shit. Somebody, somewhere, may have cut down a Lee-Enfield that way, but there's no reason for the military to do so, especially for "resistance" purposes.

Though the "official" tests by the US military on its own soldiers based on discoving "which race was most resistant to mustard gas" didn't happen until WW2 it's a fair bet that they thought it might be a thing earlier.
