Why exactly would anyone turn to Nurgle?

With Khorne you get to just go crazy and kill stuff.
With Slaanesh you get to amplify every sensation and emotion to ridiculous levels.
With Tzeentch you can be a master plotter and become steeped in arcane lore.
And with Nurgle... you start rotting?

Also, Nurgle has some of the strongest, long lasting warriors from all of the Chaos Gods. To Nurgle every death is a boon, be it his follower or not. To Nurgle your cries for relief and even your curses to his name are like the laughter of loving children.
The ONLY ones who gain this cherished immortality are the ones who prove themselves as more valuable spreading the contagion while alive. The Zealot who burns down a treatment center. The Fanatic who hunts down and kills those of the orders hospitler. Those are the ones who shine in the eyes of Nurgle and become fueled by disease, but all of you who have this slanted veiw that Nurgle is a free ticket to eternal life and a body that knows know pain are exactly the kind of chattle that flock to him in times of suffering and die by the very gifts you ask for.

3e was the era of stupid legion codices and "marks of chaos undivided" best left forgotten, this decision too is to be applauded as that 3e fluff did not appear in RT or 2e material.

Well, you are right friend, but it's actually Nurgle's endgame. He is the god of Death, he want everyone to die (and possibly to be reborn and die again in a constant state of entropy). Khorne doesn't want death so much as he wants constant war and violence. Slaan doesn't care about death or violence, only pain and pleasure, and of course Tzeench just wants change, through death, pain, and violence are often the mediums through which he works.

Hard to argue with that brother, but I miss the days of 3rd E for chaos. The Legions had form and purpose, to me 4E turned the Legions of Chaos, eternally warring against the Imperium and it's false Emperor who (as they perceive) lead them astray, to something that equated to "lol space pirates". The current edition is much better for me since I can finally field my Great Unclean One alongside my Plague Marines again.
Reguardless, thank you for this peice of information, I've saved it with the rest of my nurgle fluff.

New daemon codex should make it easier to create joint CSM/Daemon armies, as the current one doesn't fit the 6e ally rules well.

Not so much, because for Nurgle to get his perfect endstate (in effect, recreate the universe to model his domain, the Garden of Nurgle) he needs to destroy the Imperium-- mostly kill the Emperor so that he (and the other Dark Gods, for that matter) will have free reign to pour their servants into realspace, destory the Eldar/Tzeench/Necrons who are constantly attempting to stop his artifices.
The only ones who have truely gotten their "winstate" are the orks.

I meant that they do not have a focused goal as individuals. Tzeentch does not work towards some particular outcome in his manipulations, even though he probably enjoys spreading non-metaphysical Chaos and that whole expanding warp tendrils thing. He manipulates, tricks and changes because that is what Tzeentch does, not because all his little tricks are leading up to the moment where he escapes his existence as a Chaos god or whatever. I think that sort of motivation is literally unthinkable for such a being.

Probably. Rumour has it that GW are obsessed with giving everything something to hate. It's like they read the advice on the Internet about releasing two armies at a time, marketed as fighting each other, and decided to ignore the marketing side of it and just force it into the rules instead.

Also they're slowly erasing anything that isn't the big four from chaos (look at the CSM daemon prince with his forced mark), so this, while it is sort of a nifty shout out to the past, also fits into that unfortunate narrative.

To really get to the heart of what Khorne is about, lets look at how the chaos gods are organised. Four gods, paired off into opposed couples. Nurgle/Tzeench, Slaanesh/Khorne

With Nurgle and Tzeench the dichotomy is obvious. With Slaanesh and Khorne it is a little more muddy (It can't be pleasure/pain or anything of that sort because you can derive pleasure from receiving or inflicting pain anyway).

So lets look at the less obvious dichotomy: Passive vs Active.

Nurgle and Slaanesh embody passive concepts. They let things happen to them. Nurglites allow their bodies to be consumed by rot and lapse into a blithe acceptance of anything which happens to them. Slaaneshi's give in to sensation to the point it overwhelms their entire being.

Tzeench is most certainly active, and based on his pairing and proclivities, so is Khorne.

If Khorne is the proactive reflection of Slaanesh then what does that make him?

Well, when you really get down to it, Slaanesh is about submission. Submission to sensation and the will of Slaanesh.

An easy one to start. He's the most powerful because being the most powerful is his entire reason for existing in the first place. There is also the fact that he is fueled by all the oppression and violence wrought in the 40k galaxy.

While blood primarily represents the blood spilled by Khorne's faithful imposing their will on other sacks of organs. There are also symbolic aspects of blood to consider.

This idea also gives him a little distinction from Nurgle and his 'family' by giving Khorne a connection to bonds of loyalty based on hierarchy and contingent on good performance. Khorne hates weaklings and does not into unconditional love.

Again, there could be a little more symbolism read into this than just "hurr me cut many skulls 4 khorne".
The head and the skull has traditionally been a potent symbol of power (as basically every 40k faction well knows), since it houses the spirit and the will of its owner. By collecting skulls, Khorne is literally taking the power of the skull's former owner, in the same way that many societies through earth's history have practiced ritual head-hunting.

A slightly more knotty one. The given explanation of "Khorne hates witches because they're weak and cowardly" doesn't really fly considering that some of the killiest fckers in 40k are psykers.

The same for Khorne and Slaanesh who are, in a way, both about feelings and sensation.
Of course there is common ground between the gods.
Thus, you should´t take everything related to ambition and power from Khorne just because it´s more Tzeentch.
Reality is just to complicated to fit in one of four categories (or the Eparah)

It would make sense that some of them aren´t all about mystical shit but about rebellion against
the essence of the Imperium:
Authority, obedience, homogeneity, stagnation
Maybe some of them (the Purge prbably?) aim to erase mankind because they see its time is over and it´s holding back other forces´ progress.
