It COULD work, but not the way they present it. And it's more than a gyrojet,, it's a two-stage weapon that detonates a chemical propellant to bring the projectile to speed before the rocket kicks in.

I live in a place where there are no guns. Why would I need one? Don't say self-defense. That'd mean deliberately increasing the lethality level, and unless you're aiming to kill more people, that's not exactly a good thing.

I'm a lefty myself, if he was using it properly, he wouldn't be able to hit anything with it. Also, the gif is just being a dick for the sake of it, many models of guns come with versions which expel the casings out the other side of the gun.

The plasma pulse is just the propellant.

Heres what I did for projectile base energy weapons:

The KFM R90 battle rifle is the standard Terran Marine weapon, it launches a small plasma packet as hypersonic speeds. At the core of this deadly energy is core a 2mm diamond-coated tungsten round which stabilizes the packet for delivery and provides a kinetic punch. Ammunition is packed into magazines which holds one-hundred rounds. Rounds are magnetically launched and have an optimal range of 200-800 meters. The R90 also comes in an ‘R’ configuration which adds a secondary compression module that increases the range of the weapon to nearly a kilometer.

No not really. A plasma charge would need a magnetic 'anchor' to reach any real distance. Humans in my setting use an actual round to delever this plasma punch which has teh side effect of also adding kenitic damage. The other reaces didn't expect this, all thir armor systems were dedicated to resisting pure energy weapons, human weapons tended to ignore their shields and reflective armor and simply punch though.

Holy shit. I was going to post a ballistic knife to keep up with the gun theme, but instead I stumbled upon something even more glorious.

/tg/, meet the Wasp Knife.
>Wasp Knife is a trade name for a large knife that contains a cylinder of compressed gas in the hilt. When stabbing a subject about one cubic foot (or 28 liters) of gas stored at 800 psi is rapidly injected deep into the wound site. The injected gas causes much more damage than a single knife wound, both from the displacement of internal organs and from the freezing effect of the free expansion of the gas. One well placed hit can easily kill or immobilize a large animal (big game or an attacking predator). When used underwater the freezing effect helps to keep the animal from bleeding profusely, while the injected gas causes the animal to float to the surface. This can be very helpful in defending against aggressive sharks, while avoiding the blood release than can trigger a feeding frenzy in a group of sharks.

Gif fucking related... Jesus Christ man...

diamonds aren't coal dumbshit.
The burning point of a diamond is somewhere around 1000 degrees celsius. In some cases plasma may actually be a risk to a diamond but there's not much else that's gonna withstand it at those temperatures. But diamonds don't "burn like a motherfucker" because they're not a particularly reactive structure and are generally very quick to disperse heat because they are very heat conductive.

Seriously, a gun is a very simple mechanism if reduced to its bare essentials. With access to things like simple plumbing parts you can even make SMG's. The really "scary" thing? There are manuals on the net telling you how to do just that!

And if the wiki weapon project delivers the goods anyone with a 3d printer will have a functional professional grade firearm. As that guy in "Lord of War" stated "...That's one gun for every 12 people on the planet. The question is, how do we arm the other 11?" Answer? With plumbing parts and 3d printers.

If you submerge them in oxygen they do.

>> No.23271278

To be fair, pretty much anything that can burn will burn if submerged in oxygen.

>> No.23271380

Yeah, god damn that's stupid.

The wound has to be near perfect, just to start with, which won't happen in any kind of combat situation. The gas only works once. It makes a fuck ton of noise, meaning everyone is going to know exactly where you, making it useless for stealth, nevermind that if you're reduced to using a knife than you're obviously either hiding to save your ass or out of bullets and hiding to save your ass, making it pretty much useless...

Seriously, knives are issued more for a morale purpose than actual function. "Even if I lose my gun, I can fall back on the knife!" as opposed to "If my gun jams, I'm dead!" Even though you're likely fucked in either scenario.

>> No.23271580

Well, aren't they still also used as tools?

>> No.23271762

Depends on circumstances. And a specialized tool would be better than improvising with a knife. My father would brag about how he used a lighter and a pocket knife as a makeshift soldering iron, that doesn't mean a soldering iron wouldn't be better.

But yes, it could potentially find uses, but that's more up to the ingenuity of the soldier than primary purpose.

>> No.23272021

True enough. Though sometimes just using the knife as a knife gets you by, like cutting wire or rope.

>> No.23272389

Yeah, though how often is cutting wires and rope going to come up for your modern soldier? It depends on conditions, where the war is...

By my point is, basically, the knife is there for morale primarily, not really intended as a combat weapon, though it can work for that in a pinch. It's like, sure, you -could- use your rifle as a club... But that's not really the intention when you're issued your rifle.

Not that I'd put it past some soldiers to try using a knife in a combat situation, even if they had bullets left. My eldest brother joined the Marines and, suffice to say, he wasn't all there in the head to start... He was a tech specialist assigned to Hawaii, who'd fly around the world setting up computer networks and the like for logistics. Still bitched and moaned about wanting to see combat, even though he had a job he was good at and that was mandatory for a continued war effort.

But again, and I hate to use this analogy: It's like an FPS. Sure, every player has their shitty side arm, but most of them aren't going to use it unless they absolutely have to, but it adds a little bit of comfort when they're low on ammo. "I still have my side arm/knife, there's still hope."

>> No.23272458

So the WASP knife is more of a regular murder weapon?

>> No.23272528

The WASP knife is more like an overbuilt piece of shit that is at best equal to a normal combat knife and a more expensive, useless piece of shit. All that compressed gas will still cost money, I've already covered why it won't be any better in a combat situation, etc.

That knife is a joke. A funny joke, but a joke none the less.

>> No.23272544

you need to turbo smooth that man, and get it textures

>> No.23272616

So it's a one-shot item that could MAYBE do a lot of damage if conditions are exactly right?

>> No.23272716

Theoretically. Though a bog standard knife could be the same. Hit a major artery or the like and the animal or person is still going down and getting within arms reach of it still means you're just as likely to get bit, clawed, stabbed, shot, etc. as any other knife.

I question whether it's as useful against large game as it makes itself out to be. Especially groups of sharks. If you're in a group of sharks and the only way out is to knife one of the fuckers, I'm pretty sure you're going to be boned either way.

>> No.23272750

Seems to me that it needs less precision to kill. Though it's so expensive it seems like babby assassin's first weapon.

>> No.23272776

the WASP is made for defending against sharks, and it does that quite nicely; it injects Co2 inder their skin and makes them go away. for any other purpose than shark scaring teh WASP is a lump of misshapen steel

>> No.23272903

Get a rifle and go to a shooting range. Far more efficient... Not that I'm advocating the life of a hired killer, mind.

And yet the first anon that posted about it gave a quote that played it up as being effectively against a variety of animals, including large game. Large game, I'm assuming, consists of deer and moose, which I know for a fact can and will fuck you up if you try going at them with a knife.

So essentially, it -might- be useful against sharks though I doubt it, but I'm not an expert on marine life but the original post claimed it was useful against other things as well... Which you're claiming it isn't.

Honestly, I'm inclined to side with you, for all the reasons I've already mentioned.

>> No.23273312

Sharks have a think cartilaginous under layer that causes them severe discomfort when pulled from the rest of their bodies; it basically makes it hard for them to swim and so they wander off to try and correct the problem.
Also, compressed Co2 is quite cold when it comes out, so i would think that has somthinng to do with it.

As it being used as a tactical knife, no merit there, they changed their website after the tacticool people found it. the site used to say it was nautical knife only, and not intended for military purposes

In all cases wher you want to use a knife you don't need any added effect you may get from pumping Co2 into your victim and currently no military force equips teh WASP, only a few tacticoll dorks have one and think its great

>> No.23273644

Yeah, there's always a few crazy guys out there. There's been successful bayonet rushes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

>> No.23273655

Ah, so abandoning their credentials for the sake of sales. Even though the knife isn't as good as they claim it is for anything but it's primary, intended purpose.

Where as I prefer weapons to be efficient and reliable while keeping the price down as much as possible. Obviously, reliability trumps cost. If one weapon needs to be replaced once a year and another gun costs half as much needs to be replaced two or three times when subjected to the same wear and tear, the first gun is superior in almost all circumstances. The only except being when you need to outfit many soldiers for a short period of time.

I like my weapons to be lean, mean, killing machines. No stupid frills or unnecessary additions. A more comfortable grip or stock means easier use of the weapon, that it can be used longer without straining the user. That is what I consider cool.

Hm, camo pattern blade. I can honestly say I've not seen that before. I usually only see non-gloss black or dark grey, not patterns. The dark grey is superior to jet black, naturally.

But it's not tiny, not large enough to be cumbersome, has a decent grip and is suitable for both slashing and stabbing. It also doesn't have any of that (and I am loathe to use this word) retarded serration on the blade. So fuck yeah, that is awesome.

My brothers loved serrated knives. "It tears as it cuts!" they'd say. Yeah, it also wears out a lot faster. You're gutting a a deer or warding off a mugger, not sitting down for a steak dinner.

You are all wrong. The reason carbon in diamond form does not burn is because of the bonding energy within the molecule.

For combustion to occur, there needs to be a net energy loss from the process. In most materials, carbon has a relatively large bonding energy with it's surrounding atoms. In diamond it possesses the lowest possible bonding energy. Diamonds do not burn because you would need to put a substantial amount of energy into the diamond to first break the molecular bonds. This happens at roughly the vaporization temperature of carbon (5000C)

>> No.23275843

Apart from all the reactions that don't involve carbon?

>> No.23276347

Since pretty much everything on teh planet that can catch fire is made from carbon, that's not really an issue. Now pyrolysis, thats a different story altogether
